It was around 10:45 in the morning when my laboratory class ended. I was just trying to get through the day. My Molecular Biology lab had been pure chaos. Not because of the lecture or the project work, but because Ashley, Sophia, Ryan, and of course, Regina, were all in the same class as me.
It felt like I was being stabbed repeatedly by their face during our class. I just kept my head down and did my lab work. When class ended, I was already starving so I made my way to the cafeteria and joined the lunch line. But after a few minutes, I saw Regina and her little pack of followers behind me. Just as it was my turn to get food, I felt the sudden rush of people behind me. Regina and her friends shoved forward while laughing as they cut my line. Damn! When will they ever stop bugging me? And then, one of them accidentally bumped into me. My tray flew out of my hands. I lost my balance and hit the floor hard. The whole cafeteria went silent for a few seconds until laughter echoed around the whole building. I could hear it everywhere. My cheeks went red as I stared at the mess of food splattered across the tiles. And above me was Regina. "Oh no," she uttered sarcastically while towering above me. "Did the little omega trip over her own clumsy feet?" Her friends just giggled. I clenched my fists but inhaled slowly. "The line was meant for me," I faintly replied while pushing myself up. "I was here first." Regina smirked. "Aww, she's so cute when she tries to act brave." I wiped my hands on my jeans and walked past her. I didn't even acknowledge them after that. I just ordered a new tray of food and just left without looking back. I thought I could sit alone, maybe by the windows. But my feet betrayed me. They led me toward my old table, our table. For years, it had been mine, Ashley's, and Sophia's spot. Now, they were there with their new pack members, all cozy in the seats we once claimed. I just stood in front of them and froze. Sophia looked up first. "All the seats are taken, Sarah," she uttered and not even pretending to sound nice. Ashley glanced up too. "You can find another table, Sarah. There's plenty of them." I felt something ached inside me. But I just forced a smile so tight that it hurt. "Right," I responded. "Of course." I gently turned while fighting the sting in my eyes. But after a few seconds, gentle grip wrapped around my arm. I turned and was startled to see Tyler in front of me while his brown eyes were staring at me softly. He said nothing at first. He just wiped the tear I hadn't noticed had slipped down my cheek. On the other hand, the whispers in the cafeteria grew louder, but I barely noticed them. "Is that Tyler Blackstone?" "Isn't he one of the triplet alphas? I told you they're all gorgeous!" "Why is he with that weak omega Ryan just dumped?" Tyler didn't care and gently pulled me along with him. I didn't even have the chance to resist. I just followed him and was too stunned to protest. After a few seconds, he led me past rows of tables all the way to the VIP area where only high-ranking alphas could sit. I didn't know how to react. Ryan was also here. He looked up when he saw us and I knew for sure that he was surprised to see me here. For the past two years, I had never been allowed near this space even if Ryan was still my boyfriend. But now? I was standing in the middle of it while holding my lunch tray and was completely out of place. Was this supposed to be an achievement for some lowly omega like me? Jason grinned when he saw us. "Look who's finally joining the cool kids!" he uttered while standing to pull out a chair for me. I hesitated and glanced at Tyler. "Am I... even allowed here?" Tyler just smiled a me. "We permit it, lady," he replied. "From now on, this is your table too and you will be eating with us." I just looked at him, then at Jason's bright smile, and then at Ethan who was watching me with a strange look. He was nonchalant as always and I shouldn't expect anything from him. I took a seat and heaved a deep sigh. "I didn't know what to say but... thank you, Tyler. Thank you for letting me feel that I belong somewhere—" "You don't belong here, omega," Ethan cut my words and sat straight in front of me before staring coldly at me right in the eyes. "My brother just felt pity for you. Don't assume other things," he added. I didn't know what this meant or where it was going, but I just ignored Ethan and glanced at Tyler. "Still, I wanna say thank you."When we arrived at the abandoned building, the whole place was already crawling with students. Everyone was droning with whispers while their voices trembled between fear and curiosity.I caught my breath as the ambulance pulled up and its sirens cut through the murmurs. A few men in white uniforms rushed inside and after a few seconds, they already came back carrying the girl's body. It was already covered.Lily clasped my hand tightly. I squeezed back even though my stomach twisted violently. Then after a while, I already spotted Ethan, Tyler, Jason, Gabriel, and even Maxine pushing through the crowd. Maxine's eyes found mine almost instantly."Sarah! Lily!" she called while hurrying toward us. "What happened? Did you see anything?"Lily shook her head quickly. "No. We just came when everyone started gathering."Maxine bit her lip and gaze darted to the stretcher. "This is insane, another one died."I just kept quiet. The crowd hushed suddenly when a tall man stepped forward. It was
I arrived at Blakefield so early in the morning even though I felt exhausted from last night’s party. It was actually better this way. If I came early, I wouldn't risk running into Ethan back at the condo."Finally. You're awake enough to think straight."I nearly dropped my sandwich. "You again," I muttered under my breath. “I told you not to talk to me when I’m at school.”"Don't sound so annoyed, Sarah,” the guy inside my head teased. "I've been waiting. So, tell me, how was the party last night?"I bit into my ham sandwich and scowled. Ignore him, Sarah. Just ignore him."Oh, come on," he drawled. "Don't be like that. You won Pair of the Night, didn't you?"I froze. "How do you know that?"He faintly chuckled. "I listen. You forget I'm always here. Now quit dodging what happened?"I sighed while lowering my sandwich. "Didn't I tell you already? Don't talk to me when I'm in school.""Yeah, yeah," he replied while completely ignoring me. "But seriously, Sarah, I missed you."I chok
The bass thumped through the decorated gymnasium as the after-party slowly came alive. Everyone was literally enjoying themselves and dancing. But me? I just sat back at our table with my untouched glass of juice sweating in my hand.I should've felt happy. I had just been named Pair of the Night. People congratulated me, smiled at me, and even cheered for me. But instead, there was this odd heaviness pressing on my chest."Sarah!" Lily's voice snapped me out of my thoughts. She plopped down beside me.. "Congrats again, girl! Pair of the Night with Ethan! Can you believe it?"I forced a smile. "Thanks, Lily."Lily tilted her head at me. "Why do you sound like you just lost instead of won? The after-party starts in a few minutes. You should enjoy yourself, dummy.""I know," I murmured while staring down at the condensation dripping from my glass. "I want to... but I just feel strange tonight."Her brows furrowed and she leaned closer. "Strange? Like how?"I didn't answer right away. My
The music pulsed through the decorated auditorium and the strings of the fairy lights shimmered like stars above us. The Y2K theme was everywhere. There were glitter stickers on cheeks, low-rise jeans, butterfly hair clips, and even oversized tinted sunglasses hanging from collars.Gabriel stayed close beside me, ever the gentleman, but my eyes kept darting toward the crowd while searching unconsciously for someone else."Relax, Sarah," Gabriel uttered while smiling at me as if he read my nerves. "You look amazing. Just enjoy the night."I tried to return his smile. "I'll try."Before I could say anything more, Jason came barreling toward us with Lily in tow. His shirt was shiny silver and he wore tinted blue glasses like he was some kind of Y2K pop star."There's my favorite pumpkin!" Jason grinned while pulling me into a side hug. "You look like a Bratz doll, pumpkin. In the best way."I laughed while shaking my head. "Jason, you're literally glowing. That shirt is blinding.""Exact
I stood in front of my mirror while smoothing down the lilac Y2K crop top I paired with a low-waist denim skirt and platform sandals. I had never worn anything like this before, not in my entire life. The rhinestone butterfly clips on my hair sparkled under the light, but all I could think was: Do I look ridiculous? It had been a week since I was invited by Gabriel to be his partner and tonight, the acquaintance party will finally happen. My palms were sweating when a knock came at the door.I jumped. "C-Come in," I uttered while gently tugging the edge of my skirt. The door creaked open, and Ethan appeared. His tall frame filled the doorway and his eyes flickered over me from head to toe."You're taking too long," he muttered. "The acquaintance party is in an hour."My throat went dry. "I—I'm already done," I stuttered while twitching with my butterfly necklace. "I'm just waiting for Gabriel to fetch me."Ethan's lips pressed into a thin line. "Then hurry. Don't keep him waiting." W
When Gabriel finally pulled up in front of the condo, I almost didn't want to get out of his car. The ride had been quiet but it was also strangely comforting."Thank you for tonight," I muttered as I unbuckled my seatbelt.Gabriel leaned slightly against the wheel. "No, Sarah. Thank you for saying yes." His lips quirked upward in a faint smile. "I was almost ready to bet you would reject me and throw water in my face or something."I laughed under my breath while shaking my head. "Why would I even do that?""Because you're unpredictable," he teased. I rolled my eyes and opened the car door. "Goodnight, Gabriel.""Goodnight, Silver Eyes."My breath hitched at that, but before I could scold him for using that nickname, he chuckled and drove off into the night. How did he even know about my eyes?I just ended shrugging it off and finally went inside. When I entered the condo, the lights from the living room was still glowing and the first person I saw was Tyler. He was on the couch whi
