The Wrong One?

The courtroom was bustling with laughter and excitement, as we all waited patiently for the king to make the announcement. 

“We will soon announce that out of the two princes who has found their healer. So please everyone take your seats.”, the king announced. 

Everyone settled down. As soon as the courtroom went quiet the doors opened and a beautiful lady with an aura that showed dominance entered. Everyone stood up and bowed as she walked by swiftly. Even the king bowed. Why do they make us sit if we have to stand, again and again, I wondered? 

“She is destiny.”, Ethan told me. 

I was standing right next to him. I looked at the lady walking towards the throne. She was wearing a white gown with her hair open and flowing down till the end of her back. She had no crown but a weird necklace. What was different was her make-up. She had caked her face up and it gave her a very dominating aura. Her strides were confident, and she had arrogance written on her face. In short, she looked like Aiden’s sister. 

Once she was with the king everyone sat down again. She faced the people and clapped her hands. As soon as she did that a piece of paper appeared in the hands of the king. Destiny took her place, which was right next to the king. King Nathan opened the sheet and laughed hysterically. Everyone seemed confused. 

He looked at destiny and said, “fate played a wicked game yet again.”. 

Then he faced the court and said, “I will now announce the healer’s master, please stay silent even after the announcement.” I, Ethan and Aiden were a bit confident that I was Ethan’s healer because healers were supposed to have a soothing effect and not test the temper of the master. 

“The master of the healer is prince Aiden of east wing heaven.” as soon as these words left the king’s mouth three worlds came falling apart. Aiden had a look of horror, Ethan showed disappointment and, I was on the verge to cry and shout in anger. 

“No way! I don’t accept her as my healer.”, Aiden yelled. 

“Who wants to be your healer, you arrogant jerk.”, I shouted back. 

He saw red and walked towards me, but his father pushed him back. Destiny stood up and left. All the eyes were on us, and a common emotion held by all those pairs of eyes was fear. I walked out of the room followed by Ethan.

“Can’t the decision be changed?”, I asked Ethan. He shook his head while giving me a pitiful look. 

“He is not that bad Macy. He is just short-tempered.”, Ethan defended his brother. 

“Not bad, yes he is the statue of goodness and care,” I said sarcastically. He smiled and looking at it made me feel better. 

“So, I will have to work for him here also?”, I asked. 

“No, once you complete your three eras, I can take you under my department. But you must work with him- for now.”, he said. This made me feel better. At least I will have to just handle him for a few years of my mortal life. 

We were walking in the garden chatting about random stuff when the royal guard came. 

“Prince Aiden has asked me to escort you to his chamber immediately.”, he said. 

I looked at Ethan with confusion and he nodded and motioned for me to go ahead with the guard. I followed the guard and we walked for a few minutes when he stopped and opened a huge gate. 

I was a bit astonished to see that in this whole palace it was the only door that was a sliding door. The guard bowed and left. I entered the chamber and my eyes jumped out of the socket. 

His chamber was by far the most beautiful room in the whole palace. He had a personal fountain in his chamber. How can such an arrogant and mean person have such an aesthetic taste? 

“Didn’t anyone teach you how to knock before barging into someone else’s chamber like this.”, and here was the beautiful arrogant voice to bless my ears again.

I turned around and I was shocked to see him wearing denim. Damn, he looked like a model. He smirked and looking at his arrogant smirk all my thoughts turned into disgust. 

“Why did you call me here?”, I asked. He went towards a table and picked up 7 books and handed them to me. I looked at him all confused. 

“Now that you are my healer you will be going with me into a new era tomorrow. That will be your first era. These are the books of that era, and you must finish reading them all by tonight.”, he said. 

I looked at the book and it said, ‘Joseon period’. 

We are going to ancient Korea. Thinking about it made me feel happy. I always liked reading about the history of Korea. 

“But I will be born there, so I will be knowing all about the people and other things. Why do I need to read them?”, I asked. 

“Why do I have a dumb healer.”, he said with an irritated eye roll. Damn how much I wish to claw those eyes out. 

“When we will meet and I will hand your memories back to you, you will remember all these times and then this knowledge about what will happen in future will help us out.”, he explained. I nodded. 

“Now get out of here and get to work. Tomorrow morning you will be born in the Joseon period in the house of a farmer.”, he said.

I looked at him and I was about to ask something when he motioned for me to leave. And here I thought I was of some importance to him! I left his magnificent room with the huge pile of books and went to my chamber. 

Two hours had passed, and I was still on book one. What boring work to do. While I was busy complaining, Ethan knocked. 

“The doors are open. You can just walk in.”, I said. He smiled and entered. 

“What brings the prince here?”, I asked with a smile. 

“I came to say goodbye. I heard you will be leaving tomorrow.”, he said while taking a seat. Can he be sweeter? He placed a locket in front of me. I looked at him with a questioning expression. 

“It is a lucky charm. Keep it with you and you will be born wearing it. Keep it you will be needing it.”, he said giving me the charm. 

“Thank you so much.”, I said. I looked up to see he was already at the door. 

He turned around and said, “Stay safe. I will wait for you here.”, and with a smile, he left. 

I don’t know for how long I stared at that empty spot while clutching the charm tightly in my hands and with a smile on my face. This guy sure knows how to woo women.

The next morning, I woke up and got ready. I wore the lucky charm and left for the court room. Everyone was already there. There were some elders too and I bowed to them. They smiled at me and asked me to sit in front of a pot of water they had kept on the ground. They started chanting something and the last thing I remember was seeing Ethan smile.
