Chapter 1

Stella Everette remembered me three days later.

She hurried to the prison and found me sitting in a corner, fully healed and writing something.

"Lucian, I'm here to take you home," she said.

I put away the piece of parchment in my hand. Unlike before, I didn't angrily demand to know why she had treated me this way.

I simply nodded, walked out of the cell, and left her behind.

Stella watched me walk away, her brows furrowing in irritation.

She thought I had no reason to throw such a childish tantrum just because she had forgotten to let me out.

With that thought, she quickly caught up to me and explained, her voice edged with irritation.

"Louie wasn't doing well, and his injuries were worse this time. I was so busy taking care of him that I lost track of time. That's why I didn't let you out sooner."

When I still didn't answer, her frown deepened. Her tone grew reproachful.

"If I didn't come, couldn't you have found a way out yourself?

"You expect me to think everything for you, but you're not a child anymore. Stop relying on me for everything."

Suddenly, I remembered the day that marked five hundred years since Stella saved me.

She had gone alone to Mount Skyven for a crimson lotus I loved. She came back covered in blood.

I cried and told her she had been reckless and childish, but she merely kissed me on the lips and said, "Happy 500th birthday, my Lucian. I'll always be by your side."

I had endured 100 years of being skinned alive because I couldn't let go of the Stella who had once loved me so earnestly.

Now, it was time for me to leave.

I stopped looking at her and headed for my room, but Stella stepped in front of me.

She stepped in front of me and spoke coldly. "Louie is too weak. Only your blood essence can make him feel better."

100 years ago, after Louie Linfield's first failed suicide attempt, he never woke up. Stella was frantic.

I couldn't bear to watch her lose the only family she had left, so I gave Louie the blood essence my mentor had given me to keep me alive.

It turned out Stella hadn't come today because she was worried about me in the prison. She had come for the blood essence that could save Louie's life.

I stepped back and looked at her from a distance of one arm's length.

I softly asked, "If I give you my blood essence, will you end our engagement?"

I didn't want to return home, still bound to her by our contract.

Stella's expression darkened, and she reached out to grab me. But when she touched my scarred palm, she quickly pulled her hand back.

I gave a bitter laugh.

This body covered in ugly scars was indeed hard to look at.

Ever since Stella saw the scar running across my chest 100 years ago, she had never touched me again.

I still remembered the look in her eyes back then. Her gaze was filled with shock, fear, and disgust.

She had fallen from the bed and didn't even dare look at me. After making up a flimsy excuse, she had fled.

But hadn't she been the one who had torn that wound open?

Stella frowned at me. After hesitating for a long moment, she reached out to me once again and grabbed my sleeve.

"Lucian, stop being difficult. Louie is too sick to wait while you carry on like this."

Ignoring my resistance, she restrained me with her demonic power and took me to Louie's room.

She used the dagger I had gifted her to cut open my wrist and forced out the last drop of my blood essence.

Then she gently fed it to Louie.

Completely drained of strength, I collapsed onto the floor as the world around me blurred.

All I could see was Stella's gentle, concerned gaze.

She was staring at Louie lying in bed and didn't spare me even a glance.

How could she possibly remember what I had told her when I gave her the dagger?

"Stella, this dagger is the only thing in this world that can kill me," I said.

At the time, she carefully stored the dagger, promising me that she would never let anyone hurt me.

The truth was, I had already chosen to trust her before she even said those words.

I just never imagined that one day, she would use my trust to cut me nine times.

The blood essence my mentor had given me to protect my life was exactly nine drops.

Before I passed out, I remembered what my mentor had said to me in the prison.

"Seven days from now, once Lucian Veyne's body dies, Kieran can go home."

Lucian is me, and so is Kieran.

In four more days, I would return to the High Heavens.

Gods could die. Estelle hadn't been lying about that.Seven gods had already passed away before us. Louie knew Stella would never hurt him.He took her hand without a second thought and leaned into her arms. "Stella, I hurt my foot. You'll have to help me back."Stella smiled gently at him and nodded. "Alright."I watched Stella from the crowd and got goosebumps all over my arms.I had seen that look on Stella's face only once before, when I was still very young.Once, I snuck into the human world just for fun. There, I trusted a heavily made-up woman who led me straight to a notorious brothel.Just as the madam was about to strip me and inspect me, Stella burst in.Young Stella wore the same faint smile she had now as she took the madam back to the demon realm. She threw the woman into a prison that held the most vicious demons in the realm.Stella never told me what happened to the madam, but I figured it out.Once the two of them were gone, the crowd had no reason to stay and soon broke up.I walked to the edge of the cliff and watched the lava churn and splash far belo

  • Longing Beyond The Deep   Chapter 8

The first time Stella met Lucian, it was in the small grove where she trained every day.Monsters often appeared there, so it was a good place to train. She went there as usual one day and found a handsome man lying on a pile of dead leaves with his eyes closed. Several monsters were reaching for him from behind.Stella never thought of herself as a kind person.Yet before she even had time to think, she had already killed the monsters. After that, she had a noisy, hungry shadow who followed her everywhere. He begged her for good food, and she spent every bit of the money she worked so hard to earn on him.Thousands of years later, that same tagalong had grown into a quiet, dignified ruler of the demons. He was also going to be her husband. However, she didn't seem all that happy about how things had turned out.Louie told her that Lucian had someone else in his heart. Otherwise, he would have been angry or jealous whenever he saw someone else beside her.Even when that person

Just when I was tired of hearing all the gossip, Stella finally arrived. She looked exhausted as she slowly walked toward Louie through the foul wind rising from the demon cave. Then she avoided the hand Louie reached out to her.She said flatly, "Louie, if you truly want to atone for your sins, then I won't stop you."Louie jolted in shock, as if he couldn't believe Stella would say that. He sank to the ground in a daze.A sharp rock beneath his feet scraped his knee and left a bloody mark. He cried out in pain and reached for Stella again."Stella, I'm bleeding. It hurts so much," he whined. If he had acted like this before, Stella would have dropped everything and tended to his wounds herself. She would have used the finest healing treasures to treat him.But now, Stella only glanced at him before taking a step back. "This little injury is nothing compared to what Lucian suffered."When he heard my name, Louie's eyes widened. He trembled with anger, and his voice became shr

I hadn't even reached the demonic abyss when I ran into Stella. The moment I descended, I noticed someone watching me. They followed me all the way into the night.I decided to take a bath in my old favorite hot spring. So I politely addressed the person following me. "Hi. I don't like being watched when I bathe."Only then did the person step out.100 years had passed in the demon realm, and Stella had aged considerably. Silver streaks now covered both sides of her hair. The moment she saw my face, her eyes lit up. Stella stumbled toward me, then suddenly stopped as if she was afraid to come any closer. She stared at my face with open longing and whispered, "Lucian… Is that you?"I frowned and cursed myself for being careless. The demonic abyss was right next to the demon realm, yet I had completely failed to consider that I might run into Stella.People always seemed to find something to do when they were embarrassed.Gods were no different. So I stood there going through

Anything that came too close was pulled inside.Even the greatest warrior of the immortal and demon realms couldn't stop it.Estelle and I fought for two days and nights. In the end, I barely beat her with a surprise attack. That made me the one who had to enter the abyss and die.I almost did, too.
