Cassie’s POV

As promised, Enzo arrived right on time to pick me up from home.

I wore a pink dress for the dinner at this asian place Grandpa made a reservation at and dolled up Emmy with a pink frock. She was more than six weeks old now, but it seemed as though she was at least three months old. Enzo’s tall genes were probably to blame here.

As soon as I got into the car, Enzo leaned toward me to place a chaste kiss on my cheek. “Can I ask you a favour, darling?”

“Yes?”

He gave me a tired look. “I’m too exhausted to drive. Would you mind getting behind the wheel? I’ll hold Emmy.”

“Of course.” I said, unbuckling my seatbelt.

As I started to drive, I cast a sideways glance at Enzo who was trying to play with Emmy. It was unreal how her face lit up every time she saw him and it felt unfair how I had to be the one to carry her for nine months and she came out loving her dad more.

“Work is really eating you alive, Enzo. Are you sure you don’t want to slow down?”

He looked at me, “

Enzo’s POV The old dungeon that I was invited to reeked of oil and metal. To come here all alone and unarmed was a risky thing to do, but I was left with no option but to obey. The events following the attack had forced me to do many things that I was reluctant about. Like I said, my enemies now had a weakness in me that they could exploit and that’s what they did the entirety of last week. Despite countless attempts to protect my family, I somehow fell short. Finding a permanent solution seemed to be the only logical next step. So here I was, sitting across from Kent Rover in his secret hideout spot. “It’s a pity we have to meet like this,” He said, pouring me a glass of whiskey. “Had you listened to me back in Switzerland, we could have salvaged that pretty little car of yours.” “I don’t give a shit about that.” I said, taking the glass from his hand. As soon as the bitter liquid touched my throat, I couldn’t help but wince. It was strong and bitter, just how I like it. “But

Enzo’s POVIt felt like my heart was in my throat. I couldn’t remember the last time I felt this scared. It was perhaps when Cassie was delivering our baby and I was halfway across the globe. But even that feeling wasn’t the same as what I was experiencing now. It was the first time a professional rival of mine was going after my personal life. Or rather, it was the first time a professional rival had access to my personal life. Up until now, it was just me that they could target. But now, they could involve my family. The family that I loved more than myself. The family that was my biggest weakness. I slammed on the brakes as soon as I spotted a throng of people on the sidewalk along with a police car. As soon as I got down, I spotted Cassie sitting on one of the benches. The sight of me made her spring onto her limbs and rush toward me instantly.I cupped her cheeks as soon as she reached me, “Are you okay?” “Yeah,” She said, but I could find streaks of remnant mascara cascadi

At dinner, things got rather comical. Sara and Mark refused to meet each other’s eyes the entire time until I addressed the elephant in the room. “If all I’m going to get is silence, I might as well have dined alone at home.” I said, “One of you needs to open up.” Mark was the first one to break the silence, “Cassie, what made you move into Enzo’s house when he first asked you?” “Um… I was already living with him before we… It was a weird situation for us.” I said, frowning at his question. Where was this coming from? “But I guess it was because he had a bigger space?” Mark glared at Sara then, giving her a ‘Look, I told you so look.’ But Sara was quick to retaliate. “But if the roles were reversed and you had asked Enzo to come live with you, do you think he would have turned down on the basis of his enormous pride?” I laughed, “No. Of course not.” I said, giving her an amused look. “Is that what’s happening between the both of you?” “No.” Said Mark. “Yes.” Said Sara. He the

After a week-long honeymoon in Switzerland, we were slowly falling back into our routine in New York. Enzo resumed work much too eagerly, citing various pending cases, whereas I took my time to ease into everything. The best part about my job was that I could do it at the comfort of my home without ever having to interact with anyone. I could decide the pace of it and as long as I delivered on time, nobody cared. That invariably gave me more time with Emmy and also with Sara and Mark. The new romance in the city was beginning to wear off as the both of them faced the reality of making things work. Things that once enchanted them about each other were beginning to become issues that needed more than conversations to solve. One such day, things got out of hand. Emmy and I stepped out in the evening to visit a park when I got a call from Sara, wailing. “Oh, stop crying, Sara. It’s such a silly issue.” I said, watching Emmy as she ran around in the park. “But he was so mean to me!”

For the days following that dinner, things got pretty busy. When we were not out in the city, exploring the various places in our itinerary, Enzo and I locked ourselves up in our room and made love like there was no tomorrow. It was crazy how much we craved each other even after being with each other for so long. “That was intense.” I muttered as I buried my face in his neck, lying atop him. We just finished a steamy session in our hotel room in Interlaken, and judging by our record since the past few days, I would not be moving any time soon. Enzo rubbed my back gently, making goosebumps erupt on my back. “I’m not done with you yet.” He said, kissing my shoulder, “I don’t want to catch the flight back tomorrow.” I smiled, nuzzling my nose against his cheek, “Do you want to stay back in Switzerland for ever?” “I’m utterly tempted too.” He said, “I don’t want to go back to the hustle of New York. I want to retire already and spend the rest of my life with you and Emmy in the moun

“God, I miss Emmy already.” I said as I glanced at the mountains. The restaurant we were currently seated at was magnificent. In fact, everything about this honeymoon was very well curated, taking us to the best of places and offering us luxurious stays everywhere. “Do you think I should call her?” I mumbled, looking at Enzo. He was busy reading the news on his phone when he replied, “Babe, you called her three hours ago.” I groaned, “You’re right, and she’s probably sleeping.” I said, “I feel guilty for leaving her all alone there.” “She’s not alone,” He said, looking up from his screen, “Besides, it’s our honeymoon. Nobody gets their kid to their honeymoon. I’m sure you’re not the first one in history to feel this way.” He was right. I was just so used to having her around all the time that despite the distance between us, my thoughts were filled by her. Just a few more days and I would see her again. “Excuse me, ma’am.” I heard the waiter say as he approached our table. He

As fate would have it, just as the ceremony concluded, the sky rumbled with thunder.By the time we could do anything, it started pouring without a warning. “This part of your surprise too?” I asked, gazing up into his eyes as everyone else hurried into the house. “I wish,” He sighed, “It’s a great touch in the end, isn’t it?” “Enzo! Cassie! Get inside!” Liza called from the house. All the guests have found a shade somewhere or the other and it was just both of us that needed to get back in. But I was in no hurry. “I agree,” I said, turning back toward Enzo. “Haters might call it a bad omen, but I won’t.” He threw his head back and laughed, “We’ve plenty of bad omens, darling. This seems like a blessing in disguise. After all, what part of our relationship was normal?” “True.” “You idiots!” Liza yelled again, “Do you want to catch a cold on your wedding night? Come back in here.” “I think you guys should join us.” I yelled back, hooking my arm around Enzo. “Are you nuts?” Sh

After exactly thirty minutes, Enzo’s car pulled up on the porch. I walked to the window once again, my heart pounding in my chest. Enzo was the first one to step out this time, tucking a velvet box inside his suit. Banging the car door shut, he rubbed his flustered face, barely casting a glance behind. Hank stepped out later, keeping his distance from his friend. “They got the ring.” I sighed out loudly. “Is it?” Liza came to stand behind me, “Yup, that’s the one. These idiots got something right at least.” “Let’s head out then!” grandma said, clapping her hands. “The sun’s out and bright, the weather’s fantastic and the rings are here. What’s the delay?” Nodding, I scooped up my gown in my hands and headed outside where both my father and grandfather were waiting for me. My dress was draped around my body from my chest to my legs, leaving my shoulder and arms completely bare. A simple veil hung over my hair, cascading behind my gown as I walked. I knew I looked great, but I was

“I came to get you, Cassie.” He sighed, giving my shoulders a gentle squeeze. My eyes looked at his hands on me, I instantly shuddered away. Taking a step back, I mumbled, “Excuse me?” “Don’t do this.” He said, “This is not right, Cassie. You cannot marry him.” “Are you seriously listening to yourself?” Kelly interjected, “What the hell, Calvin!” He fixed her with a glare, “You stay out of this, Kelly. This is none of your business.” “Well, my sister’s wedding is none of your business too.” Liza said, “So I suggest you get the hell out of here.” “No, I’m not going anywhere without Cassie.” He said, and reached for my hand, “Cassie, I’m sorry. For the billionth time, I made a mistake. But I want you back now. I want us back. Don’t marry him, Cassie. He’s going to be a mistake.” “The biggest mistake I ever made was falling in love with you.” I said, “What made you think you could just come here and take me back into your life? Move the hell on, Calvin. We’re over. I’m getting mar
