Cassie’s POV
I woke up the next day inside something. Not something. Someone. Someone was hugging me from behind and it felt amazing. But I was confused. Who was holding me? I turned around on the bed to see that it was Enzo.
My eyes went wide when I saw him. What was he doing here? And why was he holding me? Did we... do something? Did I say something stupid? Or did we commit to something last night? I couldn't remember. When I looked down, I saw that I was fully dressed.
I sighed in relief. So nothing happened.
I slowly tried to move away from him. As I inched closer toward the edge of the bed. Suddenly, I lost balance and landed on the ground.
Sadness instead filled my chest. Poor girl! Emma didn’t deserve that. It was an indirect rejection to her.“Oh, Emma!” I said, “I’m so sorry.”“It’s fine. I didn’t have any expectations from it either.” She said, “In a way, it’s good because I can fully move on now.”“I suppose.” I said, “Patrick wants to meet you by the way. He told me just now.”She nodded, “I’ll be back then.”With that said she walked to Patrick’s room. Sighing, I turned toward my monitor and got to work. Only five minutes passed whe
I was stunned to hear her. Wow. That’s the phone call he wanted to make?“Damn, girl.” Emma said, impressed. “The man is too sweet. He’s a keeper for sure.”I ignored her and pulled out my phone to type him a quick message.‘You paid for the dress? You didn’t have to!’ - Cassie.Three dots appeared in a balloon instantly and his reply came soon after.‘Consider it as my bribe for asking you to be my plus one.’ - Enzo.I smiled.“In t
“Hey John!” I said as I made my way to them.I purposefully ignored Calvin’s angry gaze on me. I had no idea that he was going to be here!“Hello, Cassandra.” John smiled, “What a pleasant surprise! Let me introduce you to my friend, Calvin Anderson.”I was forced to look at my former husband now. With an indifferent smile, I offered him my hand, “Pleasure to make your acquaintance, Mr. Anderson.”“Likewise.” He said with bitterness. He held my hand in a firm handshake before he let it go.“So Cassie, fancy seeing you here.” He said, “Who are yo
Calvin's POV“Becky!” I yelled as soon as I stepped into the house. She was probably asleep, but I couldn’t care less. She had some explaining to do!“Becky!” I yelled again when I didn’t get a response from her.“I’m in here, Calvin!” She screamed back. The voice was coming from our bedroom.I quickly went there. She was slowly sitting up straight, looking at me in surprise. She turned on the bed lamp then.“What’s the matter?” She asked, “Why are you yelling?”“I need some answers from you!” I sa
Enzo’s POVI downed my second dose of coffee for today, and yet, the throbbing headache didn’t subside.I groaned in regret as I thought about the weekend. I had to meet with Leo and Hank last night for an event and I had a little too much to drink. Because of that, I was not able to focus on my work today. Thanks to the charity ball, I managed to land a very important client. He was Harris Gerald, one of the biggest clients we landed this year. He’s been on our radar for a quite a while, and he has finally agreed to meet with us today. I couldn’t let anything meddle with that. The meeting had to go well.“All set?” Patrick said as I walked into
I scrambled to my feet nervously. Trailing behind him was Patrick and he looked equally disturbed. I had no idea why they looked so angry.Enzo slapped a file on my desk. When I looked at it, I realized that it was Harris Gerald’s case file. Frowning, I looked up at him. “Enzo, what’s the matter?” I asked. “You’re asking me?” He scoffed, “Open that file and look at it for yourself.” I grabbed the file at once and flipped through its pages. A certain page caught my attention, as it was struck off with a red ink. I quickly started reading it and soon, I realized the blunder I had made in it. I couldn’t believe it. How did I miss something so significant? Where was my mind? I had no answer to myself. I looked up at him helpless, “Enzo…” I started, “I’m sorry. I had no idea-” “You’re sorry?” He demanded, stamping his hands on the desk. “I just lost one of the most important clients and all you have to say is sorry? How can you be so irresponsible, Cassie?” I felt my throat dry up.
I gritted my teeth in anger. The things she could say! This woman had no control over her mouth.“What?” Emma asked, perplexed.“It’s true. Did Cassie not tell you guys?” Becky said. “She married my boyfriend when I went into a coma. She was married to him for three years, keeping him under her lies. But of course, how long can a person lie? Her truth came out and her husband left her to get back with me. Poor Cassie got a divorce and she can’t see us happy. So now, she’s trying to break our relationship once again.”“Shut up, Becky.” I said, “You’re spewing lies and trying to ruin my life all the time. Have you got no shame?”
Enzo’s POV “You did what?” Leo’s voice boomed into the phone. I winced, pulling the phone away from my face for a brief second. “Yeah, you heard me.” “Wait a minute,” He said, “She made a small mistake in the document and you scolded her for that in front of everyone? Man, what is wrong with you?” “I don’t know, Leo.” I said, massaging my temples. “It’s just that… the case was important to me. And I was already in a bad mood since morning. Losing the client added to the injury. Out of anger, I dumped all my frustrations on her. And now I regret it.” “You better regret it, Enzo. This is the last thing you should be doing to a woman you fancy. I mean, she’s probably never going to talk to you after this. There go your chances of wooing her.” I widened my eyes. Was he right? Did I permanently blow my chances?“Shit, Leo. I made a huge mistake.” I said, “What do I do now? What if she never talks to me ever?”“You can find out by one way. And that is by apologizing to her.” “Apologi
I felt a flicker of hope ignite in my chest yet. So the plan worked? Trent caved in?“So… the tape is gone?” Liza asked in a low tone. “Yes, the tape is gone,” he confirmed.I could almost hear the breath leave her lungs in a rush of relief. “Oh my God, are you serious? Like, it’s gone for real?”“I don’t know, Liza. I made him delete it in front of me—from his device and from the cloud. So, yeah, I assume the tape is gone for real.”“Oh my God, Enzo, thank you so much!” she cried, nearly launching herself at him.“No, none of that,” he said, leaning away. “Honestly, I’m exhausted. It would really help if you’d give me some peace of mind.”“I see you’re still the ungrateful bastard I always thought you were,” she muttered. “I gave you all the confidential information you needed, and this is the thanks I get?”“Let’s not forget that I was the one who deleted the tape for you, so yeah, gratitude goes both ways.”I couldn’t help but be amused at their banter. To think I had once felt th
I waited anxiously for Enzo to come back home.He had left at noon to meet Trent Dalton, and since then, there had been no sign of him—not even a text or a call. I knew better than to disturb him, so I refrained from bugging him. I understood that when he had the time and when the work was done, he would tell me himself. However, it wasn’t easy waiting at home. It wasn’t just me; Sara and Liza were here too, both just as eager to hear some good news from Enzo. As for Liza, she had arrived shortly after Enzo left, curious to know what we planned on doing with the information she had given us.“We’re not going to sue you if that’s what you’re thinking,” I said to her.“Well, yeah, please don’t, because I’m not in a position to handle a lawsuit,” she replied, her voice tinged with nervous laughter.I rolled my eyes. “Neither Enzo nor I are interested in that. All we want is to get back what we lost and bring down Trent Dalton.”“And the sex tape?” She asked, “Anything about that?”I coul
Trent leaned back in his seat, staring at me intently.I did not give him a choice. I gave him an ultimatum. I knew that ultimately, he had to succumb to my demands. So what was it that was running through his mind?“You see, Enzo,” he said, “The problem with you is that you think you’re better than everyone—”“I am.”“—And that everyone is beneath you.”“That’s true too.”He smiled. “You give us too little credit,” he said. “You see, you think you pulled a masterstroke by coming to me with these video footages that honestly mean nothing to me. Because if you take this to the press, it’s going to say a lot more about you than about me. Because I’m just going to be the promiscuous man who cheated on his wife and had his privacy violated, along with several other women. Whereas you?”He leaned closer, placing his elbows on its surface. He looked into my eyes in a challenging way, as though he was trying to get into my head.“You are going to be that man that lost his fortune because of
Only psychopaths drink black coffee. That’s what Cassie always said whenever I ordered an Americano at starbucks. As I stared at the man in front of me, I couldn’t help but agree with her. Trent Dalton arrived fashionably late this morning. I picked a casual cafe for us to meet in, knowing it was our best bet. I even picked out an area where nobody would know us. We didn’t want to be spotted by anybody, especially the press. Draped in his stupid suit, he seemed like the devil himself, sipping on his black coffee. “You look good, DeLuca.” he said with a smirk, placing his cup down. “Surprisingly good, for someone whose ass got whipped by the corporate world.”Ever since the moment he arrived, it was clear that there was a power struggle between the both of us. He was on a high horse, claiming himself to be superior to me. But I knew that he would be tumbling down very fast. “I know.” I smiled. “Most people would’ve given up after they get framed by a coward.” “But you’re not mos
Enzo’s POVIt felt like the first time in ages that I was stepping onto one of these streets. The place was bustling with energy, filled with people heading toward their workplaces. I was no different. As I spotted Killian‘s office building, I made my way inside. A few clients noticed me — some smiled, some nodded. They recognized me, but thankfully, none of them approached. I headed to the reception and checked my appointment. The receptionist was more than happy to assist me upstairs.Killian was seated in his office on the 22nd floor. I took the elevator up and walked straight toward his room.As soon as I knocked, I heard his voice call out, “Come in.”I pushed the door open slightly, revealing my face through the gap. Killian’s eyebrows shot up in surprise.“Oh,” he said, “please, come in.”I shut the door behind me and walked over to his table, taking a seat.“Good to meet you again, Killian,” I said, shaking his hand. “And thank you so much for doing this.”“Oh, don’t mention i
I was taken aback by her sudden outburst that it took me a while to realize that we were grabbing an audience. She seemed to have noticed that too, as she took a deep breath to compose herself. I pushed a glass of water toward her and she took it. After taking a fee sips, she put it away. Then she said in a low tone,“I had no choice. I could not come to him for help. This was something I had to deal with on my own.”My voice was gentle this time. “Well, you’re confusing me. I have no idea what you’re talking about. So you better tell me what it was that compelled you to do this.”“Will you promise to keep this to yourself?” she said.“Liza, I’m going to tell this to Enzo—because he deserves to know the truth. But if you’re saying you were in trouble and you needed help, then be assured that we’re going to help you.”“Okay,” she said, releasing a shaky breath. I could tell that it was crushing her to share this with me. It showed in the way her hands were trembling. “Liza, are you
I waited in the café outside my office, glancing at my watch. It was 30 minutes past our scheduled time, but I was not surprised—Liza was known for her tardiness. She never showed up on time, even for work.I sent a message to Enzo then, asking him how it was going at work, but he still hadn’t replied. Bored, I decided to call Sarah so I could speak to Emmy. But right then, I heard a ring in the air. My face instantly turned toward the entrance and, unsurprisingly, in walked my sister. Her eyes wandered through the crowd until they settled on me at the far end of the room. Her face gave away nothing. I could tell she was slightly nervous, but she tried to play it well. After all, I hadn’t told her why she was here. I wanted to catch her off guard—not come prepared with an answer that would keep us from the truth.I needed her to be honest with me. This was no longer about her silly games. This was about my husband—and his career, which was on the line. She sat across from me, throwi
“How did you come up with this?” Enzo asked in amazement. He leaned in to get a closer look at the laptop. Once he realized that I was not kidding, disbelief claimed his face. And I couldn’t blame him. The fact that this was still operational was astonishing. When I first made it, I had no idea that it would come in handy in this manner. To be honest, I didn’t even know why I made it in the first place. It was definitely not for something important nor because it was assigned to me. “Patrick was fired so abruptly that I had no way to secure our data.” I said, trying to recollect my days at his firm. It felt so long ago. “I knew that a backup server could come in handy, incase someone hacks into our main system. I originally intended to keep it only until a new IT head could be hired, but it simply slipped my mind after. I let it run for long after I quit the job, I guess.” Mark was impressed. In fact, he was the only one who was so overjoyed amongst all of us. “The best part is t
“Congratulations, Cassie,” Raymond said, as he placed a coffee cup in front of me. “I heard your man’s finally coming around.”I smiled, taking his coffee. It was my favorite — a flat white from Starbucks. As I took a sip from it, I couldn’t help but moan in delight.“Thank you for the coffee, Raymond,” I said. “And yes, Enzo is finally finding his way back. Did you hear it from Leo?”“Why would I hear it from Leo?”“Well, who did you hear it from then?” I asked, surprised. Was he not offering to — the way he stayed at home and took care of our daughter, or the fact that he was willing to look at the lead Mark found him?“Well, it’s from a friend of mine. He called this morning saying that Enzo asked him for a favor,” he said, smirking at me. “He wants a job at his company as a legal advisor.”I frowned — then let out a shriek of excitement. “Enzo is looking for a job? Are you serious?”He broke into a grin. “Yes, I am serious. And he wants to be back in the market. You know, although
