Chapter 16

Elena’s Pov

The constant bickering outside my bedroom and the crying of my baby startled me. I tossed and turned on the bed, trying to get rid of the noise but couldn't.

“Why can't I get a perfect sleep!” I groaned in frustration, sat upright, and carried my baby from his cot. After a thousand years of singing a lullaby, my baby effortlessly moved to deep sleep and I gently placed him back on his cot.

I sighed. I had only been a mother for a few weeks and I was completely exhausted from the task.

“Now, who could be causing the ruckus downstairs?” I questioned no one in particular, rising on my feet and dragging it to the mezzanine.

I looked downstairs to see Raymond in a heated argument with his dad. I strained to hear exactly what they were saying and what the argument was all about.

“Your wife has a newborn and all you could do as a father is stay away from home?” he scoffed, “Speak of fatherly duties,” his voice dripping in sarcasm.

“This looks interesting,” I muttered, watch
