Just as Yvonne intended, Henry's expression immediately hardened as he raised his hand, ready to slap me.

However, he never got the chance, as Mom hurled a coffee cup straight at his forehead. He immediately dropped to his knees, too terrified to even breathe, as the cup clattered and rolled across the floor.

He had been acting arrogantly, emboldened by his status as the heir of the Glover family, but true authority still rested with my in-laws.

Mom motioned for me to sit beside her on the bed, her eyes brimming with unshed tears while saying, "Thank heavens you were there with us, Zoey; otherwise, Roger and I would have been killed without anyone ever knowing the truth."

Hearing the accusation, Henry grew defensive. "How could you say that, Mom? How was I supposed to know that you were up there with Dad?"

Yvonne chimed in. "That's right! You've completely misunderstood Henry, Mrs. Glover!"
