Chapter 8

Author: Long Journey
Rhiannon looked as if she'd just been struck by lightning. She muttered "That's not true" repeatedly, but in the end, she failed to even convince herself, for I'd hit her with facts that she could not deny.

"Zane, I was a bitch for hurting you like that, but you're the only one I've ever loved. I was just confused and fell into temptation, and Callum seduced me—"

"Stop blaming others for your behavior, Rhiannon. You certainly aren't innocent. You screwed up and failed to draw boundaries.

"I've already asked the attorney to draft a new set of divorce papers. Sign them when the time comes, and we can still part on civilized terms," I snapped.

Having said this, I spun on my heels and entered my hotel room without so much as a backward glance at Rhiannon.

The divorce papers were delivered to me the next day.

When Rhiannon got the papers, however, she took one look at them and ripped them up. "I won't sign them, Zane. I might not have won you back after three years, but I still have t

  • Love Fades Without A Trace   Chapter 7

I was suddenly reminded of the time when I was 17 years old. Rhiannon had gotten into a fight with her father after she wanted to apply to the same college as me to take up a design program, but her father had insisted on her majoring in finance. She'd run away from home in the middle of the night during midwinter. Her family had been worried sick. In the end, I found her at the amusement park she and I frequently went to.At the time, she'd looked like a pitiful kitten, too, curled up in a ball in thin clothes. When she saw me, she smiled bitterly and said, "I can't even decide what to do with my own life. How pathetic is that? Don't make fun of me, Zane."I didn't make fun of her. Instead, I brought her home. Now, as I stared into Rhiannon's sad eyes, I felt my heart leap to my throat."Zane, you're up. I… I just wanted to see you. Don't worry. I won't bother you. I only wanted to be closer to you. That's all." Rhiannon pursed her lips, clutching the hem of her shirt uneasily.

  • Love Fades Without A Trace   Chapter 6

Rhiannon was a special guest at the competition. As I presented my work on stage, she sat in the audience, her piercing gaze sending chills down my spine. When the competition was finally over, I wanted to leave without any confrontation with her. But suddenly, someone shoved me into the stairwell. The next second, a figure threw themselves at me. Rhiannon wrapped her arms tightly around my waist, her eyes slightly red with tears as she said hoarsely, "I didn't think you'd find it in your heart to come back here, Zane. It's been three years—I searched for you for three years."How could you be so heartless? You didn't even call me once in the last three years. Do you have any idea how much I've missed you?"As she said this, she buried her face in my chest and sobbed, "I know I messed up big time, Zane. I truly know that now. Three years… I've been waiting for too long."Her grip was vise-like. It was as if she were terrified that I'd flee from her.Seeing her like this reminded

Callum dipped his head and kissed Rhiannon. An icy look flashed in her eyes as she pried his hand off the back of her head, her lips parting. "Did you text Zane?"Callun went still as his gaze flickered with guilt, but he would be a fool to admit he'd texted me. If Rhiannon found out he'd been baiting me, she'd never forgive him. He could still remember the sting of her slap.Rhiannon had wanted to break things off with Callum that night. He'd cried hysterically and drugged her so that he could take advantage of her after that, and he hated to think how his life might have turned out if he hadn't.As things were, he refused to admit to any wrongdoing. "Ms. Westley, are you suspecting me? But I still remember your warning from the other day, so how would I have the nerve to text Zane? I truly didn't, I swear."Disgust roiled within Rhiannon as she beheld Callum's pretentiousness and false innocence. How could she have possibly thought he and I were similar? We were nothing alike

  • Love Fades Without A Trace   Chapter 4

An inexplicable uneasiness settled within Rhiannon. She'd felt the same way on the day Callum marched up to me and caused a scene the other day.Sensing she was distracted, Callum grumbled, "Ms. Westley, are you seriously daydreaming now of all times? What, are you still thinking about Zane? If you do, go and see him. It's not as if I mean anything to you anyway."Rhiannon snapped out of her daze and thought she had to be overthinking things again. They were on a cruise in the middle of the ocean, and I was stargazing on the deck. She thought I wouldn't leave and that I certainly didn't have the means to.Besides, Callum made for quite the enthralling sight. It didn't take long for her to lose herself in the heat and passion of the moment once more.By the time she was done and left to look for me, two hours had passed. But I was not on the deck. Frowning, Rhiannon began to feel uneasy again. She wondered if I had returned to the bedroom. She hurried back to the room and searched

  • Love Fades Without A Trace   Chapter 3

I felt all the blood rush to my head, my mind a complete blank. So, Rhiannon hadn't gotten Rollie especially for me. It was a present Callum hadn't wanted, and she brought it home.At that moment, the cat wailed and leaped to the ground. I looked down to see a few strands of cat hair in my grip.Rhiannon finished booking the cruise tickets and even got us a luxurious suite with a large bed. I glanced at the date on the booking. The cruise would depart on the third day of the next month, which was a week later. I'd be leaving for Fernham on the same day, too, if my application was approved. That night, Rhiannon was as thoughtful as ever as she poured me a glass of milk. I saw the lust burning in her eyes and suddenly retched. As I raised my hand, I accidentally knocked over the glass of milk. The white liquid soaked through the sheets, but Rhiannon anxiously checked me for wounds. "Are you alright, Zane? Did you get scalded?"My eyes were rimmed red, and my throat was dry. "I'm alr
