Then Jack’s face goes dark and he looks at me. “This is all YOUR Fault!” he demands. “Colt wouldn’t be like this if he wasn’t here with you!” He accuses me.

I’m so confused. I haven’t said a damn thing to him or his bitch the whole time. I also haven’t done anything to either of these crazy people. What do they have against me?

And I think that is when Colt lost it because he finally let go of me and stepped up to Jack before he clocked the bastard in the chin.

“What the hell do you think you are doing talking to Rory like that?” Colt demands. “Just because she is the best thing that ever happened to me, you come accusing her of being the problem when we both know it’s YOU!”

“NO! It’s all her fault!” Jack continues to insist. “You’ve never hit me before! You’ve only changed the moment you met her!” He points his finger at me stepping closer to me like he’s ready to beat the hell outta me… It’s not the first time I’ve seen that look. Ash looked at me like that before I woke up in the hospital.

But why do I have this crazy feeling like Jack is trying to distract Colt?

Colt snarls and grabs him by his fancy shirt and punches him in the gut.

“COLT!” Screams the drama mama and turns her eyes on me. “THIS IS COMPLETELY YOUR FAULT YOU BITCH! YOU STOLE MY HUSBAND FROM ME!”

And then she leaps at me, claws extended trying to scratch out my eyes. I duck out of the way, but get shoved to the ground anyway.

The only thought on my mind is I gotta get away from this bitch. I crawled on my hands and knees, trying to reach the safety of the table, but I was too slow.

She’s on top of me in a blink of an eye. This hussy is at least twenty pounds heavier than I am and has me pinned to the ground as she pounds me with her fists.

Each punch sends sharp pain shooting through my body. It’s getting hard to breathe and I’m starting to see black spots. This hasn’t happened to me in a few years. And I’m pretty sure I don’t deserve this beating either.

I try to curl up into myself to protect my body, but she won’t let me. And then she smashes my head into the hardwood of the dance floor and I see stars.

The world seems to go black momentarily before the weight is lifted from my aching body. I can’t seem to make sense of what is going on. What happened? And where am I?

“Rory, I’m so sorry sweetheart,” I can hear a man’s voice whisper in my ear but I can’t remember who it is. I know this voice. It’s a nice voice… I wish I knew who it was. And then I’m pulled into someone’s warm arms.

I can’t open my eyes. But my ear is pressed against a strong chest and a wildly beating heart that seems to ease my anxiety. I wonder why it’s so fast?

“Mmm..” Is all I can manage, nuzzling my face into the warmth.

“Shh… I’ve got you,” the voice promises. “I’ll get you fixed up, Rory. I promise,” the deep voice soothes.

The next moment that soothing voice turns harsh. “Brody, what the hell were you thinking letting them in here?”

“I’m sorry man. Belle said you invited her in and Jack… Well…”

“I most definitely did not invite my slut of an ex-wife to see me!” the voice argues. “I was here with Rory and you know it!”

“I’m not your ex! Colt! I’m still married to you! She is trying to steal you from me!” A whiny voice hits my ears.

“Mmm…” I groan.

“You’re okay, Rory. I won’t let her get to you again,” the soothing voice promises. “Take them the hell away, Brody! If I have to look at them another moment I’m calling the cops!”

And then I’m in strong arms pressing me tighter to the drum beat of his heart… I’m floating on a cloud… I’m moving…somewhere… Am I an angel?

And then I’m laid on a soft… something and the loud noise is not pounding in my head anymore.

Then something is pressed against my head. It’s cold and I squirm.

“I’m sorry Aurora. You’ve got a bump on your head. I swear I didn’t mean for this to happen. I have no idea how they knew I’d be here,” I hear him sigh. “I didn’t tell you about Belle because… Well, she isn’t important to me. We are getting divorced and I just wanted to spend some time with you… I’m so, so sorry,” He sighs.

I slowly blink my eyes open.

And there are those pretty hazel eyes I can’t forget.

“Colt,” I whisper.

He smiles at me. “Hey sweetheart, how are you feeling?”

“Like I got hit by a truck,” I joke, but wince at the sharp pain in my head.

He chuckles softly, soothing my hair back. “Well, you aren’t far off the mark. When you are ready, I’ll take you home. I’m sorry our night was ruined.”

“I am too,” I whisper. “I was having fun.”

Colt’s POVI don’t know how last night could’ve gotten any more chaotic! I just wanted to spend some time with Rory and relax. Who invited Belle and Jack? And now that I think about it, I still want to know how the hell they actually knew we were going to be there! There is no way they didn’t come there specifically to start a fight! I heard it the moment Belle called my name. She knew exactly what she would find and she was going to play on everyone’s opinions, making us out to be the bad guys.It started out great! Rory was rockin’ that dress I bought her, just like I thought she would. Actually, she looked better than I’d let my imagination wonder. I wanted to feel her up against my body, if she felt half as enticing as she looked I wasn’t sure how the night would’ve ended. I was trying my damnedest not to put my hands where they shouldn’t go… Not when I still have a damn ball and chain shackling me to my morals. I can’t promise I’ll behave after the marriage is officially dissolve

Rory’s POVI don’t know what he is thinking, but Colt clenches his fist and stands up in front of Jack. I wanted to pull him back down, or maybe back outside in the cold night air and we could go… anywhere else that wasn’t here. Maybe he could come back to my apartment and I could offer him… bad coffee? That sounds so much better than him facing off these two people that look like they are ready to start a fight.“Jack I don’t know what you’re getting at, but you need to leave.” Colt states while trying to look calm, but I see the clench of his jaw. “I have no business with you or Belle. You can go screw each other’s brains out for all I care. I’m here to relax and get you out of my system. So leave!” He states again.I want to get up and help, but he sends me a look that tells me he has it under control and I should remain in my seat. I really don't like confrontations, so I am more than happy to comply.“Why would I do that, when we both know you need to calm down and think for a mi

Rory's POVI look at that ugly snarl on her face and the threat she’s promising from her eyes directed right at me. She is trying to hide behind a mask, but I don't think it's working as well as she thinks it does. I can see through the cracks of her facade.Well, that certainly explains a lot. I guess she’s a little bitter that he is here with me and wants nothing to do with her. Not that I can blame him. If I were in his shoes, I probably wouldn’t want anything to do with her either. She probably knows it too… So why is she really here then?“Baby, you don’t need to do that! Right Jack?” She panics, rushing up, trying to pry his arms off me, but it’s not working because he just steels his arms, anchoring me to him. It’s only then I see a man standing behind the drama bitch. He is handsome, but nowhere near as good looking as Colt. She ditched her husband for this man? And now she is here crawling to get him back? I don’t know if she’s a dumb blonde or not, but I highly doubt that is

Colt's POVI pull her inside, and the heat hits me like a punch to the gut. We move past sliding past the throng of undulating sweaty bodies shoved up against one another and squeeze up to the bar. At least now I can get her something to drink... I just don’t know what.“What would you like?” I raise my voice just enough to be heard above the crowded room.“Um… I don’t know… I haven’t…” she blushes with embarrassment. That’s right. She’s probably not quite legal yet, and I don’t feel like causing trouble tonight. I just want to enjoy her, and I could probably do that better if we were both sober.“How about a soda?” I ask.She nods her head and smiles. I love the way her eyes sparkle at me. She seems so happy right now! I wonder if this is the first time she's ever been to a club? It wouldn't surprise me... Especially if she didn't have anything to wear. To be honest, she doesn't look like she gets out much at all! But maybe we can change that?I order us both Cokes and the bartender

  • Love & Fate Series: The Thrown Away Girl   Chapter 18 Wife

Rory’s POVI’m semi-stunned as I freeze in Colt’s arms as he curses under his breath. I look up at him in confusion as I watch him grind his teeth in frustration as some drama queen sashays her way to us on the dance floor. The closer she gets, the angrier he gets. I can practically feel him vibrating under my touch. For the moment, all the background noise fades away as we both focus on the impending confrontation... And how do I know there's about to be a fight? It's the look of determination on her face.Who is she? Whoever it is he is definitely not happy to see her. And still he doesn’t release me from his strong embrace… Or maybe it’s more of a protective shield. Either way, I'm grateful to be in his arms. I don't think I want to be anywhere near this crazy chick!“Colt, baby, what the hell do you think you are doing?” she whines, pawing at the man holding me to him, who seems about to loose his cool. I can practically hear him grinding his teeth in agitation.I’m not the only o
