But India’s voice was fierce as she cut him off. “Marcus! I know you cheated on me. But did you lie to this woman to steal her from your best friend, who you said was like a brother, family to you?”

Marcus’s shoulders slumped. His eyes flicked to Denver, desperate for mercy. “It was a mistake. I never meant for any of this.”

Vanessa let out a brittle laugh. “You meant it enough to lie. You meant it enough to keep him in the dark and your fiancée, while stealing me from him.”

Denver clenched his fists. “You told me you were happy that I had finally found someone to love, Marcus. You lied. Is there anything about you that’s real?”

“Denver, I—” Marcus started, but the words faltered, guilt choking him.

India stepped back, her dress whispering against the floor. “How long, Marcus? How many women have you been cheating with on me? How many lies have you told us?”

Marcus’s voice was raw, pleading. “India, I love you. I do. Vanessa was hurt, and I was trying to console her when I became weak. I don’t want to lose you. I thought—”

“You thought you could have everything,” India said sharply. “You thought you could lie to my face, stand up here in front of everyone we know, and I’d just… what? Say ‘I do’ and pretend none of it mattered?”

India’s anger broke through. “I’m not sorry, Marcus, for being in love with your best friend. But it shouldn't matter since you’ve been cheating on me anyway. Now it's all out in the open, so let's go our separate ways." She turned to Vanessa.

“You can have my leftovers because I'm done with him.” India’s voice cracked, but she stood tall, even more determined to marry Denver. “As for this man, right here. He’s mine. From the top of his head to the bottom of his feet. This is who I want to be married to and love.”

The audience gasped, and Marcus's mother burst into tears at the commotion.

India’s eyes glistened. Denver, her voice trembling. “Don’t listen to him. I’ve been honest with you, and the only thing I regret is not leaving Marcus sooner.  I’m not running anymore. Not from you.”

Denver’s heart pounded as he took in the scene. He never imagined his wedding day would turn out like this. He looked across the crowded room, and it was so quiet you could hear a pin drop.

He reached for her hand, his voice gentle. “I’m not going to let you run, not from me.”

She squeezed his hand tightly. “I trust you, and most of all, I love you, India. You don’t have to be perfect for me. I want you just the way you are.”

A tear slipped down her cheek. “I love you, Denver. I always have.”

The room waited in silence. Even though Vanessa was quiet, you could see disappointment etched into her face. Denver’s mind raced as he took in the scene. He saw Marcus, staring not at India but at him. Marcus couldn’t believe his closest friend had betrayed him. Then Denver looked at India, seeing her vulnerability, her bravery, and her flaws, but was she still acting? He couldn’t tell by the way she sincerely peered into his eyes.

Denver felt caught in a three-way trap. He took a shaky breath. “Are you sure, India?”

She nodded, tears shining in her eyes. “I’ve never been surer of anything.”

Marcus’s voice broke, raw and pleading. “Denver, don’t. Not like this.” Then he looked at India, a world of accusation in his gaze. “You could have told me.”

Denver squeezed her hand. “I believe you.” He looked at Marcus, voice thick. “I’m sorry. I truly am.”

Vanessa stepped back, upset with Marcus for leaving her to marry India, yet heartbroken that Denver was the one who got away. The guests watched, some with tears, some shocked, all completely absorbed.

The officiant, bewildered but determined, cleared his throat. “If—if you two are ready…”

India turned to Denver, her face showing both hope and fear. Denver’s heart raced. He looked at her and saw not just a friend, but a woman and an uncertain future together.

But he was a man of his word. So, he nodded, voice clear, steady. “Yes. I’m ready.”

India let out a sigh of relief. She reached up, brushed his cheek, and gave him a real, trembling smile.

The officiant found his place in the script, voice trembling slightly. “Could you two please step aside?” He pointedly asked Marcus and Vanessa as he proceeded.

“Do you, Denver, take India to be your lawfully wedded wife, to have and to hold, for better or for worse, in sickness and in health, for as long as you both shall live?”

Denver looked into India’s eyes. “I do.”

“And do you, India, take Denver…”

“I do,” she whispered, joy and sorrow mingling in her voice.

The officiant smiled, voice gaining strength. “By the power vested in me, I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may—”

India didn’t wait. She was devastated and hurt both of them and didn’t want to feel this pain anymore. She threw her arms around Denver and kissed him, bold and unafraid. Denver was caught off guard and unsure how to react, but he remembered they had agreed to make it look real, so he kissed her back, slowing it to something soft and passionate. It must have looked convincing, because the guests broke into stunned applause. Even Marcus, breathing heavily in shock and anger, stormed off the stage with Vanessa following.

Denver held India, and everything seemed to calm down. The chaos, heartbreak, and all the revealed and hidden truths didn’t matter now, at least for this moment.

They had chosen this fake love, despite everything. As the applause filled the room, Denver knew that whatever happened next, they would have to face it together.

  • Love, Lies, and I Do   111 - Is He Ghosting Me?

Beth stared at her phone for the hundredth time that morning, thumb hovering over Mel’s contact. Each time she almost called, a strange heaviness pressed her thumb away, a sense that the silence between them was growing thicker by the day. It had been weeks since she’d told him about the baby—weeks since that night when he’d pulled her into his arms and whispered, “We’ll figure this out. Together.”But his promise seemed to drift further away with each unanswered text, every call that went to voicemail. At first, she told herself he was just busy. Then, she tried to rationalize it: he was processing, needed space, and was probably scared. She understood fear; she carried enough of her own. But as the days stretched into a lonely ache, Beth’s hope began to fray at the edges. She sat in her living room, the city lights flickering beyond the window, trying to remember the last time she’d felt Mel’s arms around her, the last time she’d laughed without a knot in her stomach. The silence be

  • Love, Lies, and I Do   110 - She's Pregnant?

Beth had never understood how people described falling in love as being set on fire until she met Dr. Melvin Carter. With him, it was as if her very soul had been doused in gasoline and lit with a match—every glance, every touch, every word between them sparked something electric. Their romance had unfolded in a whirlwind: late-night conversations that bled into early sunrises, laughter echoing through her tiny apartment, the pure joy of finding someone who seemed to see her, truly see her, and want her all the same. It was so different from being with Dominique, who was always trying to change who she was on the inside and especially on the outside. It was intoxicating, this heat between her and Mel. She’d never felt so alive, so wanted. Mel was brilliant, a little bit eccentric, and wore his heart on his sleeve in the most unexpected moments. He’d show up at her office with a coffee and a shy smile, or leave her notes tucked into her books, the kind that made her blush long after sh

  • Love, Lies, and I Do   109 - A Broken Heart Can Mend

The first few weeks after Beth ended her engagement, her world seemed to shrink. The routines she once found comforting—her morning tea, the familiar halls of the hospital, the sunlight streaming through her kitchen window—felt hollow and distant. She moved through her days as if wrapped in cotton, her senses dulled by a quiet ache she couldn’t shake.Late at night, when the city was silent, and her apartment glowed with soft lamplight, Beth would replay the final days with Dominique. The sharp words behind closed doors. The way he’d tried to mold her into someone shinier, bolder, someone she wasn’t. The loneliness she’d felt, even lying beside him in a king-sized bed. She wondered if she had been foolish for hoping, for believing in the fairy-tale romance. In the privacy of her thoughts, Beth admitted she was afraid—afraid she might never find someone who saw her, who wanted her for who she truly was.The hospital helped. She could lose herself in the rhythm of work—the beeping monit

  • Love, Lies, and I Do   108 - You Get One More Chance

Beth had always believed in the language of flowers. Growing up, her mother would tuck a daisy behind her ear on bright spring mornings or leave a sprig of lavender on her pillow after a hard day. Flowers, to Beth, meant comfort, thoughtfulness—love in full bloom. But when the flowers began arriving at the hospital, she felt none of those things. Instead, she felt the uncomfortable weight of being watched. The first bouquet came on Monday: a dozen deep red roses, so flawless they looked almost artificial, in a glass vase that sparkled beneath the nurses’ station lights. The card bore no message, only her name written in bold, elegant script:“Beth Carter.” By Tuesday, it was white lilies and blue hydrangeas at her apartment door, the arrangement so grand she could barely carry it inside. On Wednesday, a delivery of peonies—her favorite, she realized uneasily—waited in the break room, paired with a box of imported chocolates and a note: “Forgiveness is sweeter than pride. — D.” The

  • Love, Lies, and I Do   107- Beth’s Billionaire Jerk

The first thing anyone noticed about Beth was her gentleness. She moved through rooms like a whisper—soft-spoken, mannerly, always ready with a kind word or a shy smile. Even as a child, she’d been the peacemaker, the one who offered her favorite doll to a crying friend or pressed a bandage onto a scraped knee. Now, at twenty-six, she still radiated that same sweetness, her innocence undimmed by the world.Beth was the one people trusted with their secrets, the one patients requested on long, lonely nights in the hospital. She was a nurse—the kind every family hoped for—compassionate, patient, and genuinely invested in the lives she touched. And recently, she’d fallen in love.It hadn’t been planned. Beth Kincaid had always been described as plain, but that was never the whole story. She wore her hair in a simple, straight bob—fine blonde strands that caught the light in a way that made them seem almost silvery. Her face was unadorned, with only a dusting of freckles across her nose a

  • Love, Lies, and I Do   106- Together 24/7?

Denver poked at the grilled salmon on his plate, the low light of the dining room warm on his face. India, across the table, was swirling her wine and watching him with that patient, knowing look she’d perfected over years of marriage. There was a gentle clatter of cutlery in the background and the faint sound of the radio playing a jazz standard. The atmosphere should have been relaxing, but Denver was fidgety, restless. He knew tonight’s conversation was important.“So?” India asked, her lips curling into a half-smile. “You’ve been quiet all evening. What’s on your mind?”He set his fork down and leaned back with a sigh. “It’s the company. Marcus and I… we want to expand, but it’s not as simple as it sounds. I’ve been interviewing potential partners, but no one feels right. Either they’re too flashy, or they don’t have the experience, or the chemistry is off.”India considered this, folding her hands on the table. “What exactly are you looking for in a partner? Like, what skills or

The knock at the door was thunderous, shaking the picture frames on Denver’s walls. You would have thought it was the police. India stiffened, eyes wide and red from hours of silent tears. "I've got to be honest, I feel nervous," India said, looking at him sincerely. • Love, Lies, and I Do   16. I'm Sprung Over You

Denver had risen early, thinking about the way she kissed him. His thoughts seemed clearer than ever before. “I’m a married man. This isn’t a joke. India had to admit, it wasn't that Denver made it terribly uncomfortable for her.
