The meeting was over. Emily looked around the room. There was herself and the complete McKennel family except for the big lady, Emma McKennel.
Charles McKennel, the owner of the largest multinational construction company—Kennel'z Industry—said that he had something important to tell the entire family, including Emily, the McKennel family's adopted daughter.
Charles blinks his eyes at Emily, who will be the center of attention because what Charles is about to say is about her.
"Emily," called the middle-aged man while focusing on the girl who immediately straightened up when Charles called her name. "I'm going to marry you to my son," said a man with a calm but firm and authoritative intonation.
Emily listened carefully to what the man who was the adoptive father and owner of the company she worked for had to say.
Emily's face was as smile as ever, imagining the marriage she had long dreamed of with Jared, the eldest son of the McKennel family.
Indeed, they have not officially entered into a relationship. It's just that Jared has already shown interest in the girl.
Naturally, the two of them seemed to look at each other with the tails of their eyes. They were awaiting a definitive verdict from a man with full authority within the company and the extended McKennel family.
"You're going to marry Jason, my youngest son. And the post of marketing manager is also left to you."
Like getting a death sentence, the eyes of the two people, initially so excited, finally dimmed. There was an incapable sadness of being uttered there. On the other hand, Jason, the second son—who is said to be the favorite son of the McKennel family—implies anger at his countenance.
Jason got up from his chair and was about to voice a protest, but quickly the middle-aged man raised one hand. A sign that he never received a rejection.
Emily knew she couldn't do anything but accept a decision that meant orders to her.
After all, Charles was an excellent adoptive father and loved her all along. There would never have been a word out of Emily's mouth if it had been the request of Charles and Emma, the queen of the McKennel family.
All rose from their seats as Charles gave instructions to disperse. While Jason was still there, in his seat, clenching his fists until he didn't care if his nails plunged into his palms until they turned red.
He didn't expect his father to make such a casual decision.
"Why haven't you left yet?" asked Charles to his second son, who is expected to continue his leadership of the Kennel'z industry.
"What are you thinking? Why me?" the young man asked with a tightening face full of anger. A fierce gaze he directed at the father, then at Emily, as if the girl also had a hand in the decision his father had just made.
"You're asking why you? What if I reverse your question? Why should you be the one to accept this company's leadership milestone, hm?" The man answered with a diplomatic question that Jason couldn't just reply to.
He realized that he was dealing with the wrong person. However, he didn't want to give up easily.
"Things go hand in hand, Jason. You accepted the leadership of the company on the condition of marrying Emily. Isn't that fair? After all, she is a beautiful, intelligent girl and has been educated just like you. She's a classy girl." Charles frowned warmly at the girl who was only a devoted listener to the father and son dispute.
She smiled listlessly as her adoptive father cast a look at her.
"Why did it have to be Emily? For so long, she had become like a sister, and now I have to marry her. Come on, Dad ..."
"Isn't it good? You guys are familiar with and know each other. The two of you will be a good match," Charles said.
"I already have a girlfriend, Dad. Your decision is unfair to Tamara and me."
Charles closed his eyes, trying to contain the anger that almost arrived at the top of his head every time Jason mentioned the woman's name. Many times he told the wayward son to end the relationship with a woman named Tamara, but still, Jason did not heed his call.
"The woman is already married, Jason. Are you crazy!?"
"She's in the process of divorce, Dad."
"Jason McKennel! Don't argue with me if you still want a position in this company!" exclaimed Charles in a raised tone. And, of course, hearing the king begin to reveal his fangs, Jason slowly rose from his seat, uttering nothing but cast hateful gazes at Emily and his father.
Emily, who was someone else in the McKennel family, just resigned and gave no resistance. She hasn't been very close to Jason for a long time. It means she will not be okay if her decision is like this.
Emily got up, then twisted the body, having previously saluted to Charles. A sign that she had listened to everything, and she wanted to go home immediately.
Who said Emily liked the decision? She was also injured because what she expected was Jared, not Jason. Charles and everyone knew it. However, why ...?
A hand gripped Emily's arm that had walked from the meeting room, pulling her into a corner. The man's eyes stared at Emily as if to swallow her alive.
"Why don't you tell him, hm? Don't you know that I—"
"What can I do, Jason? You see for yourself, don't you? He doesn't even listen to you, who is his son, let alone me!" replied Emily, who was also frantic.
Jason then twisted his body and refreshed his hair in frustration.
"What shall I tell Tamara?" he complained softly. Emily didn't seem to care either. Because no one cares about her feelings, no one wants to know what she feels right now. So what does she care about Jason or anyone else?
Just look at her; she is also being bullied by grief now, right?
"You have to force dad to undo all that. Otherwise, I will make your life suffer!" threatened Jason.
Emily snorting. Jason has always been notoriously rude and hooligan. He never returned home without a case. Whether it has beaten up who else or has been which girl again, it's always been that way.
However, for some reason, Charles seemed to love him very much.
"I don't want to," Emily replied.
"You—"
Emily challenged Jason even more by thrusting her face.
"Just hit it. No one will tolerate violence, Jase. You will never get that position if you dare to commit a criminal act. You know that, right?" said Emily at length.
She then tried to free herself from Jason's confinement. However, the man again blocked her.
"What does he want? What is the purpose of intending to arrange all? Don't say you don't know anything, Em! You always know first, dad loves you as if he is willing to leak the company's secrets to you!" Jason paused his sentence.
"Tell me, what does he want? Why didn't he match you with Jared?"
Emily still hadn't answered Jason's question, which she felt was too much.
It's true, Charles is very fond of her. However, that didn't mean the man would say everything to Emily. And even though Emily knew what Charles wanted, she knew it was impossible. How could she and Jason possibly be able to fulfill it all?
This is the craziest idea ever thought of by Charles and said to Emily.
Jason squeezed his hair in frustration, his body slumped to the floor, and his breathing was still breathless. If he were a child, he would probably cry on the bottom right then and there. However, that was impossible for him to do.
He was a future director in the Kennel'z industry.
"I ... I don't want to say it because the idea doesn't make sense, Jase. We'll never be able to live up to it all." Emily began to change her mind and was about to say what she knew.
"Say it, Em! Maybe we can find a way out."
Emily shook her head, uncertainty.
"I'm not sure, Jase. But if you insist, I'll tell you now."
Jason wait patiently, until Emily says what she has to say.
The girl then moved closer to Jason, crouching more parallel to the man's position on the floor. Emily stared at the man's gray bead deeply.
"Mr. McKennel wants descendants from you and me. It just wants from both of us. So ... are you sure you can figure out a solution, huh?"
Today's dinner is no longer as warm as before. The four people around Emily were enjoying the food on their respective plates, occasionally glancing at one as if to say something, but Emily heard not a word filling the room. Even Charles did not seem interested in enjoying their dinner with a little light conversation. Charles enjoyed his meal in silence, and so did Jason. There was no sound of talking like they did at the dinner table. This time, Emily could hear only the clinking of the cutlery filling the silence of the room containing the five people. "For your wedding later—" Charles seemed to start an awkward and wanted to create a chat; what he looked forward to most seemed to be the wedding of his beloved son to his adopted daughter, who was also Charles' darling. Unfortunately, the highest authority had not finished expressing all his feelings, and Jason had cut off the conversation. "Dad, does it have to be now? Can't you talk about it later?" interrupted Jason, not liki
Emily was in her room, like a possessed person. She was barking and doing nothing. The incident she had just witnessed a few hours ago made her heart seem about to squeal, but she couldn't. Imagine she was forced to watch two lovebirds who made love from beginning to end. It was a crazy thing that Emily had never imagined at all. And the man who did it was the man who would soon be her husband. Her whole body was even still trembling at this moment. She could have run away from the room, indeed. However, she didn't know why her legs were even more firmly stuck there and unable to move. However, she has closed her eyes, so she does not need to look directly. Emily still heard the two lovebirds' sighs and groans, even though she had covered both ears. Later, her body slumped to the floor because her legs could no longer stand upright and support her body weight to stay afloat. Knock, knock, knock! Emily almost jumped when she heard the knocking on the door; that could have been
Emily didn't want to listen to Jared's words, which could have caused her new problems. She just shook her head as unequivocal proof that she didn't accept Jared's ridiculous idea as a solution for her. It was not a solution but a shortcut, and she didn't want to go down that path. The reason is still the same because of her great respect and gratitude towards Emma and Charles; besides all that, she tries to ignore it, even if it is about her happiness once. And today is a sacred day for Emily and Jason—suppose the two are lovers. Unfortunately, it's not like that. Emily's smile from the beginning of the event to the end was not the smile that came from her heart. She was happy, of course, when she saw Emma shed tears of happiness, as well as Charles, who repeatedly pecked Emily's head while congratulating her. However, the girl's mind is already very fragile. Recalling how Jason had abused her even before becoming a wife by asking her to witness the bed struggle between the man
Emily has already packed the things she needs to take her to the Maldives for her honeymoon. Activities that she was afraid of because her marriage alone was a fake; who knows what would happen to her honeymoon later? Moreover, since the beginning, Jason strongly rejected the honeymoon idea proposed by Charles and Emma. Then when he had just expressed his approval, he had rushed to contact his girlfriend, Tamara. Just imagine Emily, who now has to listen to the excitement of two lovebirds expressing their affection for each other over the phone, as if the world only belonged to them. What did Emily expect? She and Jason were in one room and did not sleep in one bed. Jason sometimes prefers to sleep on the couch or the floor. "Yes, baby. I have prepared a ticket for you. I hope we will meet there later. Or how about at the hotel? I'll book a room for you," said Jason, who looked impatiently waiting for his 'honeymoon' with his lover. Not Emily. "I don't want to, honey. You must be
This is the craziest honeymoon Emily has ever had. When Jason was at Tamara's villa, which was somewhere else, Emily enjoyed being alone in the Maldives just because she didn't want to disappoint Charles. Charles and Emma only knew that Emily and Jason had arrived in the Maldives because that was what Charles' business colleague had told him. In fact, this is not the case. "What? That's crazy, Em! And you didn't say anything to Jason?” asked Shila from the other line. Emily shook her head and then realized that Shila would not be able to see whatever she was doing at this time. She wanted to, of course, she wanted to say something. Being on another island alone on your honeymoon is not cool. Emily wanted to cry right now, but she couldn't. Her tears seemed to have dried up. "I don't know, Shila. I might be crazy for agreeing to this idea. However, am I wrong if I wish Jason to stay with me on our honeymoon even though we don't love each other?” Emily asked Shila, who could only si
Emily doesn't know what happened to her life, which changed instantly when Charles decided to set her up with Jason. Although initially, everything was fine. Even though she wasn't close to Jason, she never got into trouble with him because Emily avoided anything that would bring her into conflict. Even though she is interested in Jared, she doesn't dare to say it and comes clean. She was aware of her place in the McKennel family. And now, everything seems to collapse and fall right on her head. “Jared, you shouldn't be doing this to me. You know, I've never caused trouble with you," said Emily, who was already in despair. What can she do now? Being Jason's wife was like a mistake, and now Jared's attitude pushed her even further. As if this was all her fault. "What did I do, Em? I want to be able to continue to be with you; is that wrong?" The question didn't sound like a question to Emily at this point, just Jared's manipulative way of intimidating her. Even a few hours ago, J
Jason wasn't drunk when he did it. He is aware of total awareness, but also not with feelings of love for Emily. He was annoyed and angry when he saw Emily dancing with another man, obviously not because he was jealous because of love, but ego. However, even though he doesn't love Emily, it still hurts to see Emely—who is now his wife—among men who try to get close to her, let alone want to have her. That's why he did something stupid a few hours ago. Now Emily and Jason were in their room, not saying a word. Emily was reluctant to start because she had been annoyed at the man from the start and was still angry. Meanwhile, Jason was also unable to speak because he did not need interaction with the girl who had only been his wife for a few days. "I'll get some ice cubes to compress your wound," said Emily, got up and left, then returned with a flask of ice in her hand. Slowly she compressed the bruised part of Jason's face from the fight in the style of a gladiator show that took p
Jason's eyes couldn't close either. He still remembers Tamara's words, who decided to reconcile with her husband because Jason was already married. Tamara thought it was fair, but not for Jason, who had been in a relationship with the married woman for the past two years. Jason never considered this marriage. He never wanted it. He even hoped something would happen so he could break the bond because of this coercion. Jason came out of the room, it was two in the morning, and he was hungry. He went into the kitchen and found nothing there but raw materials. He took a carrot and started eating it. "What are you doing here, Jase?" The carrot in Jason's hand almost fell out of his hand, and he even almost threw it at Emily when suddenly the girl was behind Jason. “Fuck! Emily, can you not just show up like that!?” complained Jason while stroking his chest. He hid the thing he had been trying to eat. “W-what are you doing here?” Jason was about to swear, but his focus was distracted
