The blistering sun was positioned in the sky high enough to cook an egg on a flat stone if someone so desired, but not high enough to indicate midday. Paulette was grateful for the cool water she stood ankle deep in and would occasionally dampen the cloth around her neck in as well. She hurt from her head to her toes.
