LOGIN*JAMIRA*
The sunlight streamed through the curtains as I stretched and rubbed my eyes. I glanced over to see Eric staring at me. His eyes were filled with adoration. I felt instantly embarrassed. It was creepy in a sweet way, I suppose. “How long have you been up?” I asked casually. “About 10 minutes,” he replied. “How long are you going to keep staring at me?” “As long as it takes,” he said. “For what?” “To remember how beautiful you look in the morning,” he replied. That’s what I loved about Eric. He always reminded me that he thought I was beautiful. Chris used to, but lately, he seems to look at me with venom in his eyes. I wish things weren’t so complicated. “What time is it?” “7:10,” he said. “Oh my god, I have to go,” I exclaimed. Eric leaned closer and nuzzled his face in my neck. “Not so fast, just a little bit longer,” he said. I wanted to, but I couldn’t bring myself to do it. I felt like I should, but I didn’t want to get too attached or comfortable too soon. I looked at him with one eyebrow raised. He kissed me and said, “I was hoping we could go another round before you leave.” I smiled and threw a pillow at him. “You gotta catch me first.” He rolled out of bed and chased me into the bathroom, where he once again brought me to my climax. …. *Chris* Ever since my last conversation with Jamira, things have been put into perspective for me. I know things were difficult, but I hadn’t anticipated the extent of it. When I saw that video, I assumed something had happened, but I tried to put it aside. That is, until she admitted to having sex with him. It wouldn’t have been a big deal if she had just let me inside her. How had one night kept her from wanting to be intimate with me? I’m her man, for goodness sake. We’re together. Those events replay in my mind constantly. So much so that last night, I went out with the guys. I decided to stop by Rod’s house since he always seemed to be up to something. He was sitting in the garage smoking when I pulled up. “What’s up, fool?” “Hey, what’s the plan for tonight?” He asked. “I’m not sure yet. You called Cory to check?” “Hold on, I got you.” I took the blunt from his hand and smoked it myself. He had that good shit. When he finished the call, he told me the plan for the night. “Alright, so we’re going to stop by the liquor store and pick up a bottle. Then, we’ll go pick up Lou and head over to Cory’s place.” “Sounds good.” We both got into my car and drove to the liquor store to pick up a bottle of D’USSE and Paul Masson. Now, it was time to get Lou. Even though he can drive, he was technically the drunk of the group. He’d get so sloppy that he’d blackout, become a stuntman, fight everyone, fire off a few bullets in the air just to wake up in someone’s bushes, four states away. Don’t ask how he got there because he’ll either say he was abducted or set up and actually believe it. That man is unhinged, but definitely a good time. The ride had been mostly quiet, except for the music playing, until Rod decided to break the silence. “So, uh… I noticed the last few times we went out, you’ve been a bit tense. Is everything okay?” Why did he think I wanted to talk about that at this moment? The whole point was to not think about my home life. Rod had a way of getting everyone to open up, but I hated that. I feel like I should be able to talk about Jamira to her, not to anyone else. But I can’t bring myself to tell her what I’ve been hiding deep down all this time. She thinks I’ve been grieving, which is true, but not exactly. I haven’t been honest with her in a while. I don’t even recognize myself sometimes. “Yeah,” I lied. “Why are you asking?” “Like I said, you’ve been tense like you’re about to slap someone. She’s not giving you any pussy?” “Something like that,” I said dryly. “You know Cory has the girls at his place, so you’ll have the pick of the litter.” I tried to laugh at that, but it came out so dry that it hurt my throat. It was really sad. “Nah, I’m good. You guys have fun.” “What’s really going on?” I took a deep breath and told him. “Mira went out with her hoe-ass friends and fucked some little white boy.” The look on his face could’ve killed somebody. It’s like the ultimate offense was committed. “Bro, what the fuck! You sure?” “Yeah, man, her little friend sent me a video of them leaving together, and when I asked if she fucked him, she started apologizing and shit.” “You think she’s still sleeping with him?” “I don’t know.” He put a hand on my shoulder and squeezed it. “So what now?” “I don’t know, I just know I still love her, but we can’t keep going like this.” “What you need is a distraction right now. You know that fool Lou will get your mind off of it for now.” “Yeah.” I turned the music back up as we picked up Lou and headed to Cory’s. When we got to Cory’s house, there was food, liquor, and women. So many women. The music was blasting with smoke in the air and everyone having a good time. As soon as I got to the living room, someone grabbed my arm and pushed me on the wall while she danced on me. That went on for a while until I saw they brought out the dominoes. I’m a beast at that. I kicked a couple of asses, then I smoked and drank with the boys. A few women tried to push up on me, but I wasn’t interested. Right when I started feeling the liquor, my phone buzzed. It was Keema. Hey— What? Damn, why are you so cold? Why do you keep texting me? Same reason you keep texting back. I guess she had a point. Still, she refused to take a hint. What do you want? Pull up. Bet, I’m on my way. I waited a few more minutes then let the boys know I was leaving. When I got to Keema’s house, she came to the door completely naked. Gone off the liquor, I pushed her to the couch and wore her out. I have to put an end to this shit once and for all.*ERIC* “Mimi, please don’t make me go,” Kayla pleaded while tugging on Jamira’s wrist. Jamira looked back at me with those dazzling, big, brown eyes of hers. I looked away because I knew I’d give in if I didn’t. “Come on, Eric, what’s one more day?” “She’s not mine to do that with.” “Didn’t you take her without permission?” “That’s not the point. Kacie already said she was coming to get her.” Jamira turned to Kayla and held her cheek. “Sorry, little one, I tried.” They both looked like two sad ass puppies who never found their forever homes. “Come put your shoes on, sour patch.” Kayla pouted as she reluctantly put her shoes on. “It’s okay. I promise I’ll come and get you again.” She gave a half smile and sulked all the way to the couch to wait. I went and gathered her things, making sure she left with everything she came with. I’ve never seen her so sad. And yet, it was nothing I could do. That cut deeper than any knife could. At the last
*CHRIS* “When are you coming back?” “When I get off break.” “You left two hours ago, we’re getting backed up.” “Carlos, chill. I’ll be back in a few.” “Hours or minutes?” “Why?” “Unless you want to get sued or reported, I’d come back. The customer has been asking for their car and I can’t keep misleading them.” “Just tell them I went to get some more parts.” “I—“ I quickly hung up the phone. The longer I stayed on the phone, the more I risked getting caught. I followed a car because I mistakenly thought it belonged to Ayana’s triflin’ ass. I told myself I wouldn’t make that same mistake again. This time, during lunch I rode past her house again. She and Jamira were really making this shit hard for me. I hadn’t seen either of them or their vehicles since that night. I decided that if this was going to work, I needed to not only get creative, I needed to think this through. Which meant even if she hadn’t shown up yet, she’d come back. And when she did, I’d
*CHRIS* Normally when someone is staring down the barrel of a gun, they see their life flash before their eyes. Well when it was me, all I could think of was if she didn’t pull the trigger, I’d be the problem she didn’t want. At that time I didn’t know how. But as the days went by I knew what I had to do. Unfortunately I had to stick a pin in it because I still had to find Jamira and that dusty coochie ass hoe Ayana needed to pay. She thought I didn’t like her ass before. She was eventually going to see how much I despise her. Every day I’d make time to go by her house. I knew she knew my car from the last time I was there. Every time I’d go, it would be in a customer’s vehicle instead. She couldn’t catch me if she wanted to. I was careful not to look directly at the house as I passed it. Often times my eyes would just scan until something was worth stopping for. It wasn’t. I would check online to see if Jamira posted anything. She rarely did. Then I’d go to Ayana’s b
*ERIC* “Kacie… I thought you weren’t going to be back until late tonight,” he said barely above a whisper. She held my gaze as she responded to Walt. “They sent me home early.” “Answer the question Kacie.” She fumbled to put the keys in her pocket. “What Eric? What?” “Why the fuck do you have a key to Walt’s house, Kacie?” “Why do you think Eric?” Suddenly everything started to fall into place. The shoes, the purse, the blanket. My mind wasn’t playing tricks on me. I knew those items. “You said you found an apartment. Why did you lie?” “Eric, I—“ “We wanted to tell you.” At that point every bone in me wanted to grab him by the throat and sling him across the room. My fists balled at my sides. “SHUT THE FUCK UP WALT! We’ve been friends for years and I don’t even have a key. She sells you a sob story and you give her one? You don’t even know her!” “He knows enough.” “Oh yeah? Does he know why you’re really here and what you’re going to do as soon as Jos
*KAYLA* “No more chicken fingers for you, Mr. Jingles.” “Is that what you named your shark?” “Mmhmm.” “Well how about we sit Mr. Jingles on the couch so he doesn’t get a tummy ache after eating all of that food.” “Mr. Jingles, Ms. Hines says you have to take a nap.” I put my shark on the couch and put the blanket on him. Ms. Hines made me chicken fingers. They were yummy. I like her food. Mommy can’t cook like that. After I ate all my food, Ms. Hines let me paint her belly. She said she didn’t have any paper, so she told me to pretend she was. She gave me pretty colors like pink, green, and sparkly yellow. “Ooh, that tickles, Kayla.” “Sorry. Mommy never lets me have this much fun. She says I’m messy, but I like being with you and uncle. Y’all are nice to me and play with me.” “I’m sure Mommy is nice to you too. Maybe she’s just busy.” “Nope. Mommy and uncle are mad at each other. They were really loud. It scared me. He told me to come with him and you.” “T
*AYANA*Tonight we expect clear skies with a few—“Nope.”I changed the station.Something about being hopelessly in love poured through the speakers.“Hell no.”Next.Another song started.Three seconds.“Nope.”I’d been riding around for an hour already and changed the station at least seven times. Who the hell was sitting around listening to this shit?I turned down one street that led to another, landing me in neighborhoods I never knew existed. I thought this would clear my mind. Instead, the combination of shitty music and no direction just made things worse.Plus, it was dark as hell and one of my headlights was out. I meant to get that fixed, but I also never expected to have to use it so soon. Normally, I’d be in bed slapping my feet together under the sheets.Damn, I took that bed for granted. With a soft ding, my gas light came on. Crazy thing was, I’d passed about four gas stations on the way to nowhere.“Shit!” I groaned.I turned the corner and saw a park. Dimly lit and
