A Virtual Date

last update Last Updated: 2025-05-12 20:05:02

The pandemic had put a strain on everyone internationally. The Jones/Hemmingway family, fortunately, had enough resources to keep them going, even making up food parcels for the more under-privileged ones and dropping them at their doorsteps from time to time.

Since no one was able to move around freely, Marshall and Danielle's first date was postponed until they could meet up.

"I have a super idea," Marshall said to Danielle via WhatsApp message.

Marshall: Why don't we have a virtual date. That way we get to see each other and chat. It won't be the best, but we can make it work.

Danielle gave this a little thought and was pretty excited.

Danielle responded: I'm in. We can do this in our gardens. Lay a blanket down and have a few eats laid out that we like, and maybe we can read a book we can enjoy together.

Smiling at that idea, he agreed. They set aside a day and time.

As they finished texting, Meghan walked into their bedroom. Seeing her brother with a smile on his face, she kn

Almost a year had past. The twins celebrated their first birthday in lock-down. They commemorated the anniversary of dear Joyce and also Meghan's sixteenth Birthday. Morgan is now five years old and growing so quickly. Marshall is now eighteen and in his final year of school.Camilla sat on her bed meditating on everything that had happened over the past year and years. Looking at her firstborn, she couldn't help but admire how handsome he was. "You have your dad's eyes, your dad's physique, but you remind me so much of your grandfather," she thought, reminiscing over how handsome her father was. "You also have your grandfathers personality and gentle ways," she continued thinking, "how time had flown by so quickly."Deep in thought she didn't hear the knock at the door and when Marshall entered the room she was startled. "I'm sorry mom," he said, placing a hand on her shoulders. "It's okay son," she responded, "I was just thinking about how grown up you are. This is your last ye

The naming ceremony was over. Marshall had found his new love interest. Danielle had accepted to go out on an official date. However, they had vowed to first get to know each other as they were both still young. The event, all in all, was, as the younger generation called it, "jiving."The following week, Bradford and Camilla needed to speak with Frederick and Tamara regarding the project that was needed to get underway, so a meeting was called. At Hemmingway International, Tamara and Frederick attended the arranged meeting. "Okay, so here is what we are planning: Frederick, I need you and Tamara to move into our place in Aunt Joyce's place. Meghan and Marshall will move into the main house with Nancy and Denzil. Denzil knows a lot about our business, so he can help you both and Nancy is superb with kids, so she will look after the twins with the help of the other staff. Also, Grandpa will be around to guide you both. Camilla and I will travel back and forth as well." Bradford expla

The twins turn a month old. Tamara was almost back to her old self. "Let's hold a naming of the children celebration!" Camilla suggested to Frederick and Tamara. "That's a fantastic idea." Meghan said, all so excited. "I agree," Tamara said, "but when?" Camilla thought about it and said, "how about next Saturday? Frederick can invite his side of the family and, well, Tams, we'll take our side." Smiling Tamara said, "You're the bestest cousin ever. To think that a few years back, Tamara had slept with and stolen her cousin's husband, only to see how much she had changed and matured since then. "And don't you ever forget it," she laughed, hugging Tamara. "I'm so proud of how much you have matured little cousin," Camilla said hugging Tamara. The men entered the conversation saying, "That settles it then. The men will organize the drinks while the women organize everything else." Bradford cut in and announced, "the naming ceremony will be held here, and we will provide all the eats

After a week of being in hospital, Tamara was eventually discharged. Glenda was charged with murder and endangering patients and her license to practice medicine was revoked.Getting back to her mother's place felt so amazing. She could finally get some proper, well-deserved rest. Instead of being checked on every so often by the nurses. Settling in, Tamara went straight up to her room to rest. "Frederick, why don't you and Tamara go rest for a while. Leave the twins with dad and me," Ruby suggested. Ever so grateful to her mother and father, Tamara thanked them and her and her husband went to rest. Frederick helped his wife up the stairs and into the bedroom as she was still sore, and the doctors said that healing took at least six weeks. "Easy babe," he said as they entered the bedroom, and she tried getting onto the bed. The bed was quite high, and so she would need to stretch. Picking his wife up bridal style, he laid her on the bed and fluffed some pillows behind her. "Would

Racing Joyce on the stretcher, nurses and doctors following, they rushed her into the operating room. "Tell me, she is going to be okay?" Camilla said, pacing and holding herself. "Whatever the outcome is, we are all in this together," Chris said, wrapping his arms around his niece. "Yes we are," Bradford said holding his wife tightly. For Camilla this was hard. This waiting was like reliving the day she was brought to the hospital and was told, at such a young, tender time of her life, that both her parents were not able to be saved. Now she was reliving this again, waiting for news about her second mother. The doctor came in and had given both Camilla and Tamara a sedative, and they went to sleep. The minutes on the clock ticked by ever so slowly. It was almost as though time had stood still. In the waiting area, Chris and James were pacing the floor. "Damn, why is there no news already!" James said, running his fingers through his hair. James and Bradford took a

It had been a long six and a half months for Tamara. Lying in bed most of every day just watching the Tele. Guests frequented the home and kept her company. Her parents-in-law stayed just down the road intermittently as they wanted to be there for Tamara and Frederick. At seven months of gestation, Tamara started feeling more uncomfortable, her hands and feet started swelling much more and her vision started to blur. Not feeling at all well, Tamara called Frederick, who had gone to help out at Hemmingway International during the morning. Bradford and Camilla had suggested that they would take over the project in Tenerife while Frederick watched over the offices in England. "Frederick, something is wrong!" she cried on the phone to her husband. "Okay love, don't panic I'll be home now," he said and hung up the phone. Entering Bradford's office he said, "Something is wrong with Tamara." Camilla, who was in the office with them, picked up the keys and said, "babe, I'll take Frederic

Tamara was released from hospital, but there were strict conditions. She would need plenty of bed rest and to have a well-balanced, iron-rich diet. They moved in with Ruby and Chris, Tamara's parents, so that they could help take care of their daughter. "Mom, are you sure this will be okay?" Frederick asked his mother-in-law. "My son, nothing will give us greater pleasure than having you and Tamara stay with us, so that we can assist you with her pregnancy," Ruby reassured her son-in-law. "Thank you mom," he said, "I know this would have taken a toll on us, and we are grateful for the help." Looking at her daughter and son-in-law she responded, "we are family and this is what families do for each other."Turning to his wife, he said, "My parents have acquired another home. They will alternate between Bolton and here so they, too, can help out and give your parents a break." Tamara began to cry. "What's wrong, my love?" he asked tenderly. "I feel like I'm a burden already," she

The weekend passed pretty quickly and before Marshall and Meghan knew it, it was time to head on back home.Arriving home, they couldn't wait to tell their parents everything about their weekend filled with excitement. "So what did you guys do?" Bradford asked. Excited to hear all about their first sleep over that was not family related. "Well, we went to the arcade on Friday evening and then went for pizza." Meghan started off saying. "Saturday, after breakfast they took us to the mall to do some shopping. Then, after that, we were dropped off at the bowling alley," Marshall continued. "Wow sounds like you guys had some fun," Camilla said. "Oh mom, that's not all. After bowling and having something to eat, we then went ice-skating and on getting back to their place, their mom had prepared the most delicious lasagna for us," Meghan finished off saying. "This definitely sounds like an amazing weekend," Bradford commented. "It was, but it didn't end there," Marshall gave a smile.
