I glanced down at the phone vibrating in my hand, contemplating whether to answer it or not.

It was too early for my mother to call, and I had a feeling that I knew what she might want to talk about.

The last thing I wanted was to have a conversation with her that would set me into a sour mood, so I placed the phone back on the counter, letting out a deep sigh before staring down at layered slices of fresh bread beside the stove where eggs were cooking slowly.

Christian’s words from the previous night still tugged at the back of my head, and I knew we had to find Bonnie as soon as we could. I had no idea where we’d find her, but one thing I had made clear to Christian was we had to find her before she got away.
