"What?!--" Kitty started her sentence, only to realized she was basically yelling. She took a deep breath and a few seconds to calm herself before she tried again: "What are you doing here?"
"Well, I'm here for a drink, which I believe is the one you are holding in your hand." Erebus smiled innocently as ever, and stook up to take the cup on her plate.
Kitty backed a step at his action, trying to hide the plate behind her. She was NOT gonna give him her "Winter Night"! What was going on?!
"Yeah, well, are you aware that you have a bar, TOO?" Kitty stressed on the "too" hard with her mind a total mess, trying to process what he could possibly be here for.
"Ohh, this bar is WAY fancier than mine, right?" Erebus didn't try to steal the drink from her. He just stood there with still the huge smile, looked annoyingly confident and mischievous as if his appearing in front of her was absolutely normal.
"Yeahhhh!" Several voices rose from the table, agreeing Erebus's joke. Of course--
His loyal Dim Patronus.
Kitty couldn't help herself but to check them out. Themis was not there. Menoetius WAS, but he flinched at her observing eyes, fully aware who Kitty was looking for. Even though Kitty DID look a bit suspicious, it was out of the line for Themis to treated her that way.
"Can we talk for a minute?" Erebus made a "please" gesture to another table with a distance to theirs.
"I'm working." Kitty pouted without looking at him. Why was this man everywhere and disturbing her plan of forgetting him?! She wasn't sure whether she was upset at Erebus, or the anger was actually toward herself.
"I'm sure the owner wouldn't mind." Erebus led the way anyways, and he sat by the table, looking at her with anticipation.
"..." It was more like a comfort instead of a threat. Or maybe it was a threat but Kitty just couldn't assume evil of this evil, evil man! She walked over and put the drink between them, sitting in silence.
"How are you doing this past few days?" Erebus put his arms on the table and leaned towards Kitty. He was so good at making people feel noticed and cared for.
"Well, great, actually. I DO own that to you though. Thanks for the room." Kitty was leaning backwards, trying hard to not fall into his trap. She had NO resistance against this man.
"You helped me more. I found out some stuff with the information you gave me, so don't worry about it." Erebus nodded in satisfaction, "Wanna know what I found though?"
"No." Kitty looked away from his stare. She knew she should be paying attention. Perses's particular interest in her didn't feel like finished to her either. But she just wanted to hide from all the emotion mess, especially after Themis made the whole thing sour for her.
"I want to apologize for Themis again, I--"
"Why are YOU apologizing?!" Kitty got irritated again. She only realized that she was so upset because Erebus put himself on Themis's side against hers, and that suddenly rose a bitter jealous after those angry words burst out of her mouth.
"You are right, she owns you an apology. I'm only apologizing because I feel guilty of failing your trust." Erebus quickly explained, "I don't know how I can explain for what I did, I can only try to make amends and hope for your forgiveness."
"It's okay, you don't own me anything. And even if, pretty sure the debt is paid with the room." Kitty shook her head, upset at herself for her unreasonable desire AND anger at the man in front of her, who makes her lose her cool every time she saw him.
Erebus knew that nothing could buy her trust, and forwarding friendship invitation won't work on her either. She was so used to losing good things in her life that she was cutting them loose at the first second that she felt something was good, so she won't feel horrible when she actually loses them, even if it might not come to that.
It was the worst move of him to leave her alone when she was feeling vulnerable the most, and now it would be super hard to gain her trust again.
"I understand that you want to be left alone," Erebus had the next move planned already. It was her ONE weakness, and it was pretty clear the first time they met, "I really need your help."
Kitty nodded at his first sentence, and froze for the second half.
How could she possibly help him? She had nothing, knew no one, and couldn't do much either. How could she be needed by this legendary Alpha who basically owns the city?
"I totally understand if you don't want to help, it's no pressure. I will try to think of something myself--" Erebus faked a wronged face with sadness written all over.
"I'll help." Kitty cut him off, "What do you need?"
He knew she would agree. She might refuse a charity, but she cannot turn down a call for help. After all, she jumped out for him at giant wolves with no weapon or power the first she met him.
"Really? Are you sure?" Erebus kept on his performance. Such a waste. He could have go for the best actor award if he wasn't the lord of the wolves.
"I own you at least that much. I meant it when I say I do appreciate for all that you have done for me." Kitty felt better being in a relationship with him as a helper instead of a silly girl with a crazy crush.
"It's my pleasure." Erebus gave her a bright smile, "So, can I have my drink now?"
Kitty: "..."
Sitting in chair cross the table from Erebus, on the most luxurious root top bar in the city, Kitty suddenly felt her mood lightened for no obvious reason. If only time could stop at this exact moment.
The night just started.
Kitty sat in the chair nervously while Erebus taking sips of her Winter Night in a casual and relaxing way, as if it was a romantic date and he was just appreciating a good drink. He said he wanted her help, but all he talked about was all kinds of random topic BUT his "urgent problem"."I probably should go back to work." Kitty took the plate, "Let me know how I can help you, okay?""It's okay, the owner is aware of this already. He's fine with you lending me a helping hand." Erebus just gently pressed the plate, hinting her to sit down again."What-- when?!" Kitty suddenly felt like she just stepped in another trap."Well, it's only right that I asked for permission before I ask for your help, right? I won't want to get you into trouble." The sly fox didn't seem at all sorry, but as if his asking the owner for her time before he even talked to her was a matter of course.Kitty squinted her eyes at him and yelled at herself in her mind: How could you keep forgetting he's just a smooth
"A small town named 'Evergreen' was found burning with none of its residents anywhere to be found. The reason for the destroy of the town is still under investigation. The police are suspecting it to be some kind of natural disasters leading its residents to leave..."Kitty turned off the TV and fell back into bed. Now that she had a few stable days without too much to worry about, she finally felt a bit settled and had more room in her head to think about stuff. It has been a week since Erebus delivered Perses to the King. It was not like the King of the underground werewolf world would announce hi
"Wh--what?!" Kitty couldn't believe her ears.Just when she was finally accepting the fact that her mom was a witch all along, and she might be a part of the magic world, she was once again, thrown out of it. Just like how her whole life had been:losing everything."I..." Kitty opened her mouth, but couldn't find any words. She didn't know she wanted a witch life that much. Now her expedition was over, and she was sad it never got a chance to exist.
"Where is she?!" The witch asked in a haste."I, I don't know! I thought she was dead, but I didn't actually see. The whole village was on fire, and they were killing everyone they saw. But if your friend really had a three-year-old child that JUST came to this city, then I think there's a possibility that they didn't kill her, but took her here." Kitty outed with her thoughts, only to realize how unlikely that might be."Or maybe, she was just brought her by someone else and this is just a coincident?" Kitty added with hesitation, unsure of herself."No, I got a sudden vision a few days ago of her. So there must be something unusual happened to her that brought her to my attention. I think what you said was very possible!" The witch got excited, and that made Kitty nervous. She didn't like to give other people false hope, she knew how horrible that feels like."Well, that's what we are gonna find out." The witch patter her as a comfort, "You are not giving me false hope, kiddo. You ju
It was not easy for Kitty to go back to the hotel after her short visit at the bar. She could see in the way how Metis broke that news to her that Erebus didn't want her to know where he went. In other words, he didn't want to see her anymore. She was out of line the last time they met. This man had only been in her life two full days, and Kitty already felt like losing a limb when she realized she won't ever meet Erebus again if HE doesn't want to. He is capable of that, and she had no choice whatsoever. Kitty held her fists tight without realizing she was missing Erebus. She thought the horrible f
"You lost her?!" Erebus was in the office on the 19th floor of the hotel, and Menoetius was down on the floor on one knee in front of him with his head low."I'm sorry, my Lord. I followed her to the Fifth Avenue, and all of a sudden, she just disappeared in the middle of the road. I ran towards there but nothing was abnormal about that place other than the fact that she disappeared. I think she was heading for Maple Avenue though, it's only two blocks away from there, and Kitty seemed to have a clear destination." Menoetius explained in a hurried voice. He was in charge of Kitty's safety this morning, and somehow he lost her."Where's she now?" Erebus waved his hand. He believed Menoetius, but there bound to be something wrong with the store on Maple Avenue, the one Kitty took him to last time. She seemed surprised to see that store. That was not a normal reaction considering she suggested that place."She's returned to the hotel, and is now in her room." Menoetius answered, "Metis ca
"Why did you break my phone? It's not like he can track it or something." Kitty complained to the man "escorting" her from behind. The man: "...""Well, it was brand new, you own me a phone." Kitty carried on, seeing that he didn't intend to talk much. The man: "...""Why do you want me though? I don't really--" Kitty shrugged and kept on trying to get him to talk. He must know stuff, at least more than her. And it might slow them down if she gets him to talk, too."Shut up!" The man suddenly yelled at Kitty, and she shrunk a bit and stopped."Why are you so mean? I'm following your order, aren't I?" You need the street wisdom to survive if you are a stray cat. And Kitty was a good one."Keep on walking." The man said sullenly. Apparently he had passed his out burst and was trying to keep in silence again."Hey it's you who want something from me now. Better be polite to me. It's not like I'm asking too difficult questions, am I? You will kill after anyways, why can't you talk to me fo
Her prediction failed. The silver wolf sped up his last few steps and kicked the ground with his last step to jump up towards them.Kitty finally understood why he was called The Silver Lightning -- he was FAST! Comparing to his movement, Kitty felt like her legs were just running in slow motion.Well, running is running. Kitty didn't stop her steps and just as she passed -- well, as the silver shadow passed her, she heard a huge bang from a crash coming from behind
