Chapter 3

Author: Poison Soul
The next morning, Orson prepared breakfast.

His eyes remained fixed on Maude, trying to read her expression. "Honey, last night was unbearable without you. Just 13 more days, and then I can finally marry you."

"You're right. 13 more days," Maude echoed, her gaze cold and unreadable.

"Orson, can you pass me some ravioli?" Imogen asked.

As Orson picked one up with his fork, Imogen leaned in and ate it straight from his hand.

He shot a glance at Maude. "Don't mind her. She's just playful like that."

Orson had always kept strict boundaries with other women, careful to avoid hurting Maude.

However, with Imogen, those boundaries seemed to vanish entirely.

"It's fine," Maude said, keeping her eyes down.

Orson was caught off guard.

"Honey, you—"

"Maude, do you even know what Orson used to be like?" Imogen cut in, her voice laced with defiance.

"He was a tough, stubborn guy, but he always listened to me. Whatever I wanted to eat, he learned to make it. He even remembered my menstrual cycle and planned surprises for me…"

Maude listened in silence, her throat tightening.

Suddenly, everything made sense.

The very things she had once admired in Orson were proof of how deeply he had loved Imogen.

"Immy, cut it out."

Orson's protest sounded half-hearted, his tone more yielding than commanding.

Maude's appetite vanished completely.

She stood up and went to her room to grab some documents.

When she returned, Orson was holding her phone.

"Someone from HR called," he said. "They want to know when you'll bring the handover documents. Didn't you already take time off for the wedding? What's left to hand over?"

Maude had used all her annual leave to secure a month-long break for the wedding.

"There were a few things I missed. I need to go in for a bit."

Orson didn't think much of it. "It's raining out. I'll come with you."

Maude held the folder close to her chest, her visa papers tucked safely inside.

It didn't matter whether he found out now or later. She never intended to hide it from him anyway.

The car ride passed in silence.

When they arrived at the office building, Orson opened an umbrella and walked Maude to the entrance.

His eyes stayed fixed on his phone as he replied to messages, his attention far away.

Still, he held the umbrella mostly over her, protecting her from the rain like he always had.

It turned out some acts of kindness were nothing more than mere performance.

Maude's gaze hardened as she watched him.

"Just hold on a little longer, Orson. This charade will end soon," she thought.

From the front doors, someone from HR stepped out to meet her.

"Maude, your visa documents for the overseas assignment…"

In the photo, Orson held Imogen in his arms while the photographer searched for the best angle to capture the scene.Calm and composed, Maude sent a few messages into the group chat."I took that photo myself. I was the one who hired the photographer for our wedding shoot.""Imogen even thanked me afterward. She said the photos turned out beautifully because of me.""Orson, do you really want me to keep sharing more proof?"After those three messages, the group chat fell completely silent. The loudmouths who'd been so quick to judge were suddenly speechless. After a long pause, Orson finally began to type."Maude did nothing wrong. All they did now was make her feel sick. She paid no mind to anyone else's reactions and simply left the group chat."Remove me, too. After all, a couple should stick together," Levi said.Maude glanced at Levi before

To Orson's surprise, the person who stepped inside was Imogen."You're finally awake! Do you know how scared I was?"She hurried forward, tears of relief shining in her eyes. However, as she reached out to take his hand, Orson shoved her away."What are you doing here?"His cold, piercing stare bore into her, and Imogen's smile quickly vanished."Who did you expect? Maude?"You spent three years preparing and were just about to become CEO. Because of her, you threw it all away. You gave up everything, but did Maude ever even look your way?""Shut up!" The veins at Orson's temple stood out. "None of this would've happened if it weren't for you."Imogen laughed bitterly through her tears."Orson, do you even have a heart? You were the one who chased me! You said Maude was just an obligation—that I was the only one you ever truly wanted to marry!"However, Orson's face betrayed no emotion. "Don't act like you're innocent. You knew from the beginning you were the other woman. No

At that moment, Orson seemed shattered, but Maude was unmoved."Yeah, it's exactly what you think. Didn't you already know?"Without another word, she turned away and closed the door firmly.Inside, Levi waited quietly at the dining table. As she approached, he gave her a fork and knife. Her fingers trembled slightly."Why didn't you come out earlier?" she asked. That wasn't like Levi at all. From the start of their relationship, he was never secretive about it. Everyone at the branch office knew he had moved abroad because of her."Maude, I used to be afraid," Levi said, a faint smile playing on his lips. "But not anymore.""...And why's that?" "Because I know you, Maude. You're not someone who looks back," Levi replied, his eyes burning into hers. "Maybe you don't fully love me yet, but I trust your sense of responsibility. One day, you'll love me more than you ever loved him. I'm worth your devotion."His words sent a subtle ripple through her heart."Why are you makin

"Don't you ever say that. It's disgusting!"Orson staggered back from the shove, barely catching himself. His eyes instantly grew red."I already explained that the wedding photos were fake. I was on a business trip that day, remember?"There's nothing between me and Imogen. She's always been like a little sister to me. If you don't like it, I won't see her again."You made everyone hide where you were. It took me forever to find you. I flew ten hours just to be here."Maude, please… I'm begging you. Don't treat me this way. I can't handle it anymore."His voice cracked, filled with pain and desperation.Maude pressed her lips tightly together, nausea twisting in her chest."Orson, have you lost all sense of shame?"He stared at her in a daze."What happened? What exactly did I do wrong? We'd been together for five years and were about to get married.
