Leona's POV

I instinctively looked up, following the sound.

Across the courtyard, a woman strode toward us in high heels. She wore a form-fitting dark gown, her golden waves bouncing with each step. An overpowering perfume hit us before she did—bold, sharp, and impossible to ignore.

Her gaze swept over me from head to toe, lips curling into a contemptuous sneer.

When she reached me, she rolled her eyes dramatically, as if even a second more of looking at me would soil her vision.

"How ridiculous," she snorted coldly. "Anyone standing here could be called Luna?"

Before I could respond, she stepped past me, her attention snapping to the figure behind me.

"Andrew."

Her tone sharpened instantly, commanding. "Come here."

I felt the small body behind me stiffen. He glanced at her hesitantly, then looked up at me, fear flashing in his eyes. The next moment, he quietly stepped forward, ducking behind me. His small hand clutched the hem of my shirt so tightly his knuckles went white.

"I don't…

Leona's POV"Why? If you're trying to trick me again with that excuse about knowing something about my mother, forget it. I'll never contact you again," I said coldly."Then what about this?"He slowly pulled something from his pocket, his movements deliberate, almost ceremonial. He opened his palm.My breath caught.—A ring. Not ornate, yet unmistakably familiar. It rested in his hand, the metal catching the moonlight like a cold, watchful beast. My pupils shrank, my chest tightening as if gripped by an invisible fist."No… impossible…" I murmured, barely above a whisper. That ring—it was the token I had once given Henry.Damn it. How could I have forgotten this? When werewolves bond, tokens must be exchanged. And before severing the bond—even an incomplete one—the token must be returned through ritual. That was the rule, etched into our very blood and bones.Henry and I… never formally bonded. But back then, foolish, naive, desperate to believe in so-called "love," I had let him swe

Leona's POVI stared at that hand, my heart skipping a beat. Then I placed my own hand on top of it."Now let me see what I get in return for such a price."I caught a flicker of possessiveness in Kane's eyes, and before I could react, he pulled me forcefully into his embrace. His hand pressed against my shoulder with just the right amount of pressure—a silent command, a gentle reminder. He leaned down slowly. The moment his breath brushed the side of my neck, a deep, dangerous heat shot through me, making my heart stutter."Don't hide." His voice was low and hoarse, like grit rolling in his throat, carrying undeniable authority.I could feel the wildness coursing through him—the raw, intoxicating power of an Alpha. His lips grazed my neck like fire over ice, scorching and teasing all at once. I gasped, fingers instinctively clawing at his chest. His grip didn't loosen; if anything, it tightened, pinning me against him.The room seemed to freeze, echoing only with our breaths and hear

  • Love Was Never the Deal   Chapter 28

Leona's POVThe moment the words left my mouth, I felt it clearly—He smiled. Not with his lips, but with that cruel, dangerous expression that existed only in a wolf's eyes. The air in the study froze solid. The silence became suffocating.Kane's gaze wrapped around me like chains. The feeling of being stripped bare, weighed and judged, made my skin crawl. He said nothing, only advanced toward me, one deliberate step at a time. The sound of his boots against the floor was slow and heavy. One step. Then another. Each one crushed against my nerves.I instinctively stepped back, only to hit the edge of the desk. There was nowhere left to retreat."Conditions."He stopped in front of me, leaned down, and looked me straight in the eye. His voice was low, close enough to graze my jaw."Do you really think you're in a position to negotiate with me right now?"My breath caught."If I weren't," I lifted my chin, forcing my trembling hands to still, "you wouldn't be standing here listening."I

Leona's POVThe hall was too bright.Torchlight flickered across the stone walls, throwing familiar and unfamiliar faces into shifting shadow. I could feel their gazes—fixed on me, scrutinizing, curious, some tinged with barely concealed schadenfreude.Too many eyes.My father leaned forward beside me, clearly preparing to speak—to "explain" on my behalf, or bow his head for me.No.It couldn't be like this.I drew a deep breath and forced myself to stand straight. My fingers curled instinctively, nails biting into my palms. You can do this, Leona.I told myself silently. This wasn't the first time I'd defied an order, nor the first time I'd stood my ground like this. My pride wouldn't allow me to bow my head now, wouldn't let me take back what I'd already said. But the problem was—Defying him through his men and defying him to his face were two very different things.I forced myself to look up.Kane stood there.Dangerously handsome—sharp features, deep-set eyes like a blade waiting

  • Love Was Never the Deal   Chapter 26

Leona's POVMy eyes snapped open. For a moment, the world seemed frozen.I wished I had misheard, prayed this was some cruel illusion—but my father was already on his feet, moving with a speed no aged werewolf should possess. He glanced at me.That look was sharp, appraising, as if I were a bargaining chip finally put to use. Then, in the next instant, the cold calculation vanished, replaced by a flawless, warm, insincere smile."Looks like you've done well."Approval laced his tone, but my stomach churned. We descended the stairs together. The staircase stretched endlessly, each step hammering my taut nerves. When we entered the reception room, I saw him immediately.Kane lounged casually on the sofa, relaxed yet exuding an undeniable, quiet pressure. His back was straight, legs slightly apart—like a wolf perfectly at home in the hunting grounds.Behind him, several tall attendants stood motionless. Not a word, not a twitch—yet the room felt stifling, dangerous. My father quickened h

  • Love Was Never the Deal   Chapter 25

Leona's POVThe car slowed gradually in the night, its engine humming low and restrained, as if unwilling to disturb the street's excessive stillness. My home's iron gate came into view—familiar, yet oddly estranged.Only when the car came to a complete stop did I realize I'd been lost in thought the entire ride. The cabin fell silent, filled with nothing but the sound of our breathing.I unbuckled my seatbelt but didn't get out right away. Instead, I turned to look at Eric in the driver's seat. The warm glow of the streetlights filtered through the window, casting soft shadows across his face. That was when I noticed the dried bloodstain on his cuff, and my heart tightened without warning."Today… thank you," I murmured, surprised by the hesitation in my own voice. "Your injury… are you okay?"Eric raised an eyebrow, then smiled—gentle, with a trace of teasing."I'm fine," he said casually, as if we were discussing the weather. "Charging into danger for a friend is only right, isn't
