Chapter 4: A Secret Love

Lola can’t describe how she feels right now, she is feeling happy, though her secret trips to the city has been unsuccessful, and last night turned out to be a disaster, she is glad she met Matthew, whatever his last name is, she couldn’t forget his handsome face, and what a gentleman he was.

She sat in front of her computer and pulled up her baby daddy file. She typed in his name and started ticking the criteria boxes, and wrote at the bottom of the page, perfect Match the chosen one.

She has finally found the right one, the problem is how will she see him again, she was so embarrassed earlier she couldn’t even ask his full name, could hardly utter the word thank you, should she go back to his apartment? she knows the address now, but what reason does she have to try to go back?

Maybe he is a frequent goer at the bar where she was at last night, that is her best bet, she’ll try to go back hopefully they’ll meet again. And maybe do what needs to be done!

She stood in front of the mirror took off her clothes and checked herself out, she doesn’t look so bad!

Actually she looks really sexy if she was to be asked, she is lean, toned in the right places, what is not to like about her? She smiled at herself and proceeded to take a shower.

It is Sunday, time with the girls, but it is still early, they usually meet at the shop around lunch time,

so she has time to kill, she can go early and lend the guys a hand in serving coffee, Sunday mornings

are usually very busy, everyone seems to want to have breakfast outside, so she will be useful there today, and also she can check on the menus for the next event they will be catering to, this one is going to have a huge crowd, so they need to add more to the menu and the host has sent in some request as well. She and the girls can later finalize the list for the food and beverage, the dessert will be her own responsibility, all desserts, she will be baking, especially the centerpiece cake. The decorations are lily’s forte, all flowers and decoration are from her shop she just need to know what theme the host’s wants and she will do it. It’s gonna be a very busy week they have 3 more weeks to prepare, she will will only have time to sneak out to Manhattan on Friday or Saturday evenings. Her partners has totally no idea, of what she’s been doing, And this made her smile. She is feeling like a young teenager going after a young man she likes.

The coffee shop is now totally full, she greeted everyone seated at the outside tables, they know her by name already and she knows most of them as well, she proceeded inside and greeted her crew, she always loved to be the one serving food and drinks when she is there and when she has time to help, she takes this time to get to know the customers, she is one chatty gal, and they appreciate her for that.

She stayed downstairs until almost lunch time, when lily entered and like a celebrity waved at everyone in the shop while shouting a loud hello to everybody, Lily is the youngest in the group and the most innocent acting one, she has this sweet personality and very jolly, she makes everyone smile, no wonder people flock in her shop for all kinds of flowers and plants, she knows how to make a sale, you enter her shop in a somber face she will not allow you to leave without a smile, she is that kind of person, her happiness is contagious. They proceeded upstairs and called Samantha to Pick up something for lunch on her way there, but she told them to wait a little bit longer she has to drop by the hospital first to check on the kids, Samantha is that kind of Doctor, even though she knows her patients are perfectly taken care of by other physicians she takes time to go say hello even on her days off. Not long after, Katie arrived with a huge smile on her face, “you seem to be in the mood?’, lola asked, “uh huh” she replied, Katie and lola have been best friends way before they met lily and Samantha, they are totally opposite when it comes to personality, Katie is a carefree girl since they were kids, a que sera sera kind of personality, Maybe because of her wealthy back ground, Lola is simple and timid, disciplined and calculated in everything. But it work for them, they had grown to respect and love each other for who they are.

“What is this thing that is making you happy girl”? Lily asked Katie, but they were interrupted when Samantha entered the room, with a huge box of pizza in her hand. Their once a week treat to themselves, a big box of pizza and a bucket of buffalo wings, and the raspberry tart from downstairs.

They set everything down on the conference table, in the room and started, digging in, when Katie announced he just broke up with Brad, her present boyfriend, “You seem happy for someone who just broke up with someone” said Samantha, but it is no longer unusual to hear her breaking up with

someone, it happens almost every week, she’ll switch boyfriends like she switches her shoes, nothing new actually, “ Well, actually I had to because the man I have been waiting for is finally back, can you imagine, He is still single, we are meant to be” she said with a twinkle in her eyes and with a giggle. “well poor man, someone you have been waiting for just to break his heart”? Said lily, “ No, no, no this one is for real I promise” she replied while raising her palm in the air. “It is true he is gonna be the one”. “Uh huh you’ve been saying that for the past fifteen years”. And they laughed in unison, But they can see her eyes are quite dreamy, “well we can’t wait to meet him,” Lola said. “Well how about finding someone that Lola would be interested in”, said Samantha, and they all laughed because they’ve done that quite a few times in the past and it always ended in a disaster, her friends understand but they like to tease her once in a while with her single by choice mantra. Lola is laughing inside,

if only her they knew what she’s been up to. “ We never know she might be hiding a secret love” said Katie and they all laughed!!!

They spent the afternoon, going over the plans for their next event, and once they were done, they gathered their stuffs headed out for Porky’s, their favorite barbecue house in town. After dinner and some drinks they will then go their separate ways and head home. It had become a regular part of their lives to get together every Sunday. Lola was thinking that once lily gets Married things will change, and soon Katie or Samantha they will surely be next they will all get married, except her!

They said their goodbyes, and they started to walk in different directions, their homes are all in a walking distance from there. And as Lola walks towards her house she couldn’t stop thinking of Matthew. What is she gonna do, her only option right now is to take her chances and go back to

the bar again, hopefully he is a regular there, and maybe she can finally accomplish what she’s been wanting to do. What will her friends think of her if they find out what she’s been doing and planning to do, will they think of her as cheap and desperate, well she already think of herself as cheap and desperate, what difference does it make if they think she is. What is important is her goal, she has to achieve it. For sure once they find out, which they definitely will if she get pregnant successfully, They will still love her and will understand her. And she is sure of that.

As she was about to retire for the night she remembered Katie’s words, Secret love! What if she’s hiding a secret love! If they only what she is really hiding!
