Giselle

Like a habit forged over nearly eight years, I wake up at six in the morning. Sleep refuses to come back, so I take a shower and rummage through the clothes Nathan’s driver lent me, searching for something that covers my arms—the bruises Oliver left are still visible.

When I step out of my room, I realize I’m the only one awake. As a gesture of gratitude, I decide to make breakfast for Mr. Kalet.

I head to the kitchen and, careful not to make too much noise, open the cabinets one by one. I gather everything I need to cook: French toast, scrambled eggs, a Spanish omelet, some coffee, and in case he doesn’t like something so strong in the morning, a glass of orange juice.

A little over an hour later, the kitchen door creaks open. The apartment's owner steps in and stares at the small table like he can’t believe what he’s seeing.

“What is all this, Mrs. Giselle?” he asks, scanning the room.

“I-I just made you breakfast,” I reply.

“Why?”

“To say thank you. Does it bother you?” I

  • Love for revenge   Fight

Giselle “That’s what happened, sweetheart,” Nathan murmurs as he leans in to kiss my cheek. “I promise you, by tomorrow, they’ll regret ever messing with you.”“Tomorrow? Why?”“It’s nothing you need to worry about. Let’s just enjoy our evening.”We go back to our desserts. A moment ago it seemed too sweet, but now—now that I know what the Lefebvres have been saying about me again—it tastes bitter and salty, so much so that every bite feels like a struggle.Thankfully, Nathan starts telling me stories about his mother and the pranks he used to play on Madame Eugénie. I manage to laugh again, pushing aside the hurt that Oliver and his parents have caused tonight.“I need to use the restroom,” I tell Nathan, wiping my mouth gently.“Go ahead, darling. I’ll ask for the check while you’re gone.”I stand up, still smiling from the stories Nathan shared, completely unaware that someone across the room hasn’t taken their eyes off me all night. I only realize it after stepping out of the res

  • Love for revenge   Threat

Giselle I listen as Nathan confesses his so-called feelings, and I shake my head, refusing to believe a single word coming out of his mouth. How can he now say he’s falling for me when not long ago, he made it perfectly clear that no one would ever believe we’re lovers? With those words still echoing in my head, I start to believe he just wants to make a fool out of me—just like Oliver once did. And filled with fury toward both men, I retreat deep into myself and begin avoiding Nathan as much as possible, both at work and at home. I even go to bed earlier than him every night just to avoid being around him.Unfortunately, I’ve grown so used to having him close that I can’t sleep without him. Every night I toss and turn restlessly until Nathan finally walks into the room. Even if he keeps his distance, just having him near somehow calms me down. What I never expected—especially from someone as cold and imposing as him—was for Nathan to follow through on his threat to make me fall for

  • Love for revenge   They messed with my wife

Although that first outing with Giselle wasn’t exactly a success—she spent most of the time unusually quiet—the ones that followed slowly began to bring us closer. I’m almost certain we’re finally back to how we were before the convention. She doesn’t even let go of my hand anymore when we’re alone, not even when I pick her up at her place after work."And those flowers?" I ask Giselle when I see her holding the massive bouquet I had sent her that afternoon."I’m just taking them home because there are too many in the office—there’s no room for more," she replies defensively, though I know she’s lying. It’s one of the most beautiful arrangements I’ve ever sent her; of course she’d want to keep it close."Let me help you with it.""I’ve got it," she counters as she steps into the elevator waiting for us.Since I gave Kalet the day off, we have to head through the lobby so someone can bring the car around. On the way, a few of the female employees whisper excitedly, sighing when they se

  • Love for revenge   You´re still crawling

Without taking my eyes off him, I squint slightly and flash a small smile, which makes Kalet cross his arms and glare at me.“Don’t look at me like that,” Kalet grumbles after a few seconds.“I want you to keep an eye out for when the flowers for Giselle arrive and go upstairs to see her reaction,” I order, lacing my fingers together and resting my chin on them, “and obviously, you'll have to come back and report to me.”“Why do I have to go?” he complains.“Because I’m your boss, and I’m ordering you to.”“You could send the witch.”“She was a big help, so now it’s your turn.”“But I already helped you! Wasn’t I the one who went to find her? I bet it never even crossed your mind to ask her instead.”“You’re right about that, but now I need your help. I’ll double your salary this month if every time I send my wife a gift, you go down and watch her reaction and then come back to tell me everything in detail.”“Triple,” he counters.“Double. You’re not doing much—just going up and down,

  • Love for revenge   How to make my wife fall in love?

Days laterI stare at my laptop, unable to get past the first paragraph of the report I’m supposed to be reviewing. With a frustrated groan, I run both hands through my hair, still too upset over what happened with Giselle to focus."Are you even listening to me?""No… I’m sorry, what were you saying, Kalet?""What’s wrong with you? You’ve been acting weird for days.""Nothing," I snap."Nothing? Are you even aware of how bitter you’ve become lately?""There’s nothing wrong, Kalet. Stop pestering me. You’re really annoying when you try.""You fought with Giselle, didn’t you?" he presses, and just hearing my wife’s name tightens every muscle in my body. "You two haven’t looked the same. And those oxygen-depleting kisses you used to give her? Gone. Spill it. And don’t tell me 'nothing'—I won’t buy it.""You were right.""About what?""That I was falling for my wife. She knows now, but she doesn’t believe me. In fact, she doesn’t even want me near her. Every night she...""Stop. I don’t

  • Love for revenge   I´m dying of jealous

"Or maybe you're just so jealous of me being pregnant that you can't even open your mouth?" Paulette sneers, her hand gliding mockingly over her rounded belly.I avert my gaze, doing my best not to cry. Nathan’s hand tightens around my waist, pulling me closer to him as if shielding me from the venom in her words. I force myself to pretend I’m fine."I think my wife’s just worried about the future of that poor child, having parents like you... and let's not even talk about the grandparents—just as wretched as their son.""You will respect my wife, Dubois," Oliver growls, stepping dangerously close to the man. "Say something like that again and you’ll regret it.""Oh please, telling the truth is now disrespectful? And I haven’t even said what I really think of your mistress. No matter how hard you try to hide it, she’ll always carry the stain of being your lover while you were still married."I watch as Oliver clenches his fists, ready to strike. Not wanting a fight to break out and ru
