REIGN'S POV

“Oh my God, it's really you.” I bent down to his height, smiling from ear to ear. It took every bit of self control in me not to swoop down and hug him. He might not be comfortable with that. I couldn't believe I got to see him again and so soon at that.

My smile fell when there wasn't any speck of familiarity on his face. I heard little kids forget people quickly, I guessed that was true. I looked away, feeling my heart break. I thought we created a little special memory in that pastry shop.

“I think I know you.” Roman said, placing his finger on his chin in thinking mode. I laughed, letting go of the sadness I felt. If he forgot, then we would just create new ones. “Wait, the pastry shop lady?”

He remembered me. I almost jumped up to celebrate. “The pastry shop lady?” I laughed, “I guess you can call me that.”

I gasped when he flew into my arms, hugging me tight. I laughed and squeezed him before releasing him. He was so freaking cute. I wanted to run away with him.

  • Love in the Headlines    Small talk

REIGN'S POV “Get out.”I rolled my eyes. “No.”“I want you to leave.”“Well, I don't want to leave.”“Are you playing with me right now?” Mel scowled at me, running her hands through her hair in frustration. Her gauze was removed last night. “You need to go home.”“I can't leave you here alone.” I shook my head. “What if something happens when I am gone?”“You must think you are a superhero or something,” she rolled her eyes. “Whatever is bound to happen will happen regardless.”“Mel—”“I want you to go home and rest. I heard you turning and groaning last night. I know how uncomfortable this is for you so go home and sleep on a nice bed.” She pointed at the door. I was not able to sleep because I was worried out of my mind but she didn't need to know that.“Alright, I will but I still can't let you stay here alone so I will call someone to stay with you.” I stood up and grabbed my bag and phone.“Who are you calling?”“You will see.” I smiled and waved at her.“Reign, don't play gam

  • Love in the Headlines    A terrible, terrible man

IVAN'S POV It was official that everyone was upset with me. Maybe that was even an understatement. They were livid and disappointed. However no one was saying anything to me. They didn't shout. They just gave me those glances that made me feel miserable and like a monster. I will take their shouting and yelling over this anytime.Even Reign preferred to give me her fake smile, hiding behind them rather than ask me the questions that were bothering her.She was probably disgusted with me and she had every right to feel that way. What kind of man wooed you one minute and then declared he wanted to get married to another woman the next minute?Me. That was who. What could she possibly say to me anyway?Christian was doing the same thing to me right now, staring blankly at me like he didn't secretly wish to bash me in the head with a plank.I shut the file with a ‘pop’, unable to take it any longer. “Why don't you sit down and let's talk about this?”“We have talked about all the project

  • Love in the Headlines    How to stop a wedding

REIGN'S POV My hands trembled as I took a few steps back, like the distance would protect me from this inevitable conversation. Never in my wildest dreams could I have imagined that Mel would be the first to discover it.I had no idea what to say.“Reign? I need you to tell me the truth. Those things I saw…. what's going on?” Mel urged.“It's nothing… it's a prank someone is pulling…. It doesn't mean anything.” How could I have left my phone in front of her? It was almost like I was begging for someone to see it.Maybe I was, it was becoming too heavy to bear after all.“Don't give me that bullshit.” It was the first time Mel cussed at me. I was not sure how to feel about it. “I didn't check your phone intentionally and I'm sorry if you are offended but I couldn't ignore what I saw. Whoever that bastard is, sent another message and it was on the table in front of me so I saw it.”They sent another message? Who were they using to threaten me again?“Reign, you can't deceive me that th

  • Love in the Headlines    My blackmailer and I

REIGN'S POV I closed the fridge and moved to the counter and sat down. I dropped the water bottle on the table and sighed. There were a lot of things on my mind, things I shouldn't even be bothered about but they were all I could think of, despite not wanting to.“Reign…are you okay?” Ivan asked, as he came into the kitchen. I hadn't seen him in a while and it was intentional.“Yes, of course. I was just resting my head for a bit before I returned to the hospital. I needed a change of clothes as well,” I explained, looking everywhere but at him. I didn't want him to see what I couldn't say in my eyes. Someone once told me I had expressive eyes.“Right, do you need a ride?”“No, no I'm good,” I stood up, grabbed the already packed lunch and moved past him. “I'm leaving now. Thank you for the offer though.”Ivan grabbed my hand, making me turn back to him but he just stared at me without a word. I had no idea if it was because we had spent time together but I could somehow tell what he

  • Love in the Headlines    My Reign

IVAN'S POV I've had the craziest twenty four hours of my life. First off, I got the shocking news that Mel got into an accident, then Reign tried to take her own life, then my father showed up with Mel's father and now this.We would be getting married at the end of the month? What was this load of crap?“You're joking, right?” Mel's voice shook, her hands clenching the covers around her.“Who jokes with that, my dear daughter-in-law?” My father grinned, spooking me out. I hated it when he showed any hint of amusement. It meant he enjoyed preying on your weakness.“But that's really impromptu. The end of the month is like two weeks away.” She continued her argument but I knew it was futile. Trying to reason with them would not solve anything.“The earlier, the better,” Mel's father replied, this time.“This makes no—”“We are not getting married at the end of the month,” I cut in. “This is something that concerns Mel and I. As the parties involved, we would be the one to decide when

  • Love in the Headlines    About time

REIGN'S POV The tension was thicker than my waist. I could swear everyone was holding their breath, waiting for something to happen? This was a meeting I never could have predicted even if I was a seer. How could such a bizarre thing happen?“Father?”“Dad?”Mel and Ivan said simultaneously, each of their wide eyes set on their fathers. Why were they here together? Based on my impression of them, I don't think they cared about their children enough for them to leave everything they were doing to check up on them.“Dad, what are you doing here?” Mel asked, adjusting then wincing at the movement.“Why? Do I need to send you a letter before I visit you now? Haven't you rebelled enough?” Richie Anderson said, walking into the room further.“That's not what I meant,” Mel sighed.“You sustained minor injuries. Why are you moping around on the bed, looking pale? You like to see everyone revolving around you, is that it?” Her father bellowed. My face settled into a frown. How could he say so
