Kayla's POV

Just one brief look at me, she knew I was my father's daughter. Her smile brightened as she stared at me.

Then she goes  “Will you stay with me?”

For some moment, I cleaned the tears that were rolling down my face.

“I’m your daddy’s business sister, your daddy likes me so much and he'd be happy if you stayed with me.”

My eyes went from her head down to her fine boots then I resumed crying. I needed my family back not her. I wailed effortlessly.

She stood there waiting for me to go with her, but I never gave her a chance.

But she never gave up as she went from just coming to persuade me, to bringing me food and staying with me till I’d doze off on her legs.

Eventually, I followed her to her home.

It was big and elegant just like ours. And she, was also very warm and lovely. She made sure to bring a smile back to my face again, even while I missed my parent and siblings. She was my buddy.

Since then, she had treated me nothing less than her real granddaughter.

When Grandma Helen suggested I should marry her grandson, I was never against it as I was already in love with Liam.

Actually, even if I wasn't in love with Liam, I'd have still accepted to marry him as my way of paying back the good deed Grandma Helen had done in my life.

But now, it has been five years of our union and Liam still hasn't developed any feelings for me.

Even when he brought Lyra to our home, I had never done or said anything to offend him or make him think me jealous and clingy. All I was focused on was how to be the best wife for him. Hoping that one day he would see through the love I have for him and accept me wholeheartedly.

But that never seemed to work as Liam never stopped prioritizing Lyra over me.

I stayed at home like a room decor while he went around the city with his mistress.

Then I realised he would never consider me a woman. I was sad and hurting but I must remain in the marriage for Grandma Helen. I would never break her heart after everything she did for me. If anybody must cause a rise in her BP, it definitely shouldn't be me.

But now that she was dead, I had no reason to remain in the marriage anymore.

My mind was a jumble of thoughts as I sat quietly inside the taxi.

I made up my mind. I must get a divorce and go far away from him.

Lyra and Liam could now have themselves wholeheartedly without having to worry about any obstacle like me anymore.

Tears welled up in my eyes as the thoughts alone gagged my heart. I never for once thought it would end like this. I never envisioned this. I had waited and waited for the day Liam would come to me, with so much affection in his eyes and while he was sober, but he never did.

I had gone through nothing but pain at the hands of Liam.

While other granddaughters-in-law of Grandma Helen were being loved by their husbands, Liam only hated me and even had intimacy with me only when he was drunk. He disliked me with every blood in his veins. And why he was even mating with me was because Grandma Helen wanted a great-grandchild.

"You can drop me off here," I muttered when I sighted the building while dabbing off the tears that unconsciously fell off my eyes.

"Alright Miss." the driver muttered and pulled over while I gently came out of the car after paying him.

Just then, he drove off. I let out a heavy breath as my eyes scan the establishment in front of me. For some reason, my heart began pounding faster in my chest.

This was a major decision. I've never once thought I’d have to do something like this my entire life. But here I was now, ready to divorce Liam. To get the papers, shove them to his face, and disappear from his life for good.

I put a call to Mrs May, and within a few seconds she came down to meet me where I stood.

"Hello Mrs Reyes, how's today?" Her voice echoed.

I nodded with a faint smile, extending my hand for a handshake.

"We buried Grandma Helen today, sorry I didn't invite you," I muttered. My voice low and firm.

"It's okay Kayla, accept my condolences. I'm truly sorry about your grandmother-in-law.” She sounded.

“Thank you, Mrs May. I'd like to have a discussion with you.” I voiced, my tone calm and collected.

“Alright Kayla, come with me please." She muttered.

With that, I walked with her into their office elevator.

I had known Mrs May before the demise of my parents. She was not only our family's personal lawyer but also my mum’s friend.

A few minutes later, we arrived at Mrs May's office.

"You’ve just laid your grandmother-in-law to rest  today, that of course must make you feel sad, but why do I feel there's something more weighing down on your mind?" She muttered and a sad smile spread across my lips.

“So, what do you want to discuss with me?” She added.

"I want to give Liam a divorce." I voiced and she had her eyes opened wide.

  • Love me again, Dear Ex wife!   Chapter 163

Chapter One Hundred and Sixty-TwoKayla’s POVThe days passed quietly after I left the hospital. Too quietly. The city outside was loud and alive, full of the kind of chaos that used to comfort me. But inside Liam’s house, the silence was thick, almost deliberate. It followed me through every hallway and every shadow. Even when the windows were open and sunlight poured in, the air still felt heavy.Liam had changed. He was careful now, almost painfully so. He no longer barked orders or spoke in the sharp, clipped tone that once made me shrink inside myself. Instead, his voice was softer, gentler, and his eyes—those deep, blue eyes that had once been cold as winter—now carried something fragile. Guilt, maybe. Or longing. He didn’t try to touch me. He kept his distance, as if afraid that one wrong move would break the thin thread of peace holding us together.Every morning, he made me tea and left it by my bedside before going to work. He didn’t say anything about the nightmares that wo

  • Love me again, Dear Ex wife!   Chapter 162

Kayla’s POVLight consumed everything. It wasn’t the warm kind of light that promised peace; it was fierce, burning through me until every nerve screamed. For a moment, I thought it would kill me, strip me down to nothing but ash and memory. Then, just as suddenly, the brightness dimmed.I opened my eyes to silence. The world around me was unrecognizable. The metal walls, the alarms, the cold corridors—all gone. In their place was a vast white space that stretched endlessly in every direction. No shadows. No sound. Just emptiness.I pressed my palm to the ground, but there was no texture. It was like touching light itself. I didn’t know if I was standing on something solid or floating in the middle of nowhere.“Hello?” My voice echoed softly, like it didn’t belong to me. “Is anyone here?”Nothing. Only the faint hum of air that didn’t feel real. Then I heard it—a single, steady heartbeat. My heartbeat. But it was faint, uneven, like something inside me was struggling to keep going.I

  • Love me again, Dear Ex wife!   Chapter 161

Kayla’s POVThe world was chaos. Sirens screamed, red lights flashed like indignant beating hearts, and smoke was whirling away broken glass and spurting wires. I leaned my back against the wall with the railing of metal in my hands to keep myself erect as the earth shook under my feet.Damien’s hand grabbed mine, his grip firm and warm, dragging me behind a row of overturned crates. “Stay down,” he said, his voice low and commanding.I could barely breathe. My pulse was pounding too loudly in my ears, drowning out the distant shouting. My double’s laughter cut through everything else, soft and echoing, curling around me like a poison. When I looked up, she was standing in the middle of the corridor, framed by the flickering lights. She looked exactly like me but sharper, colder, her beauty tinged with something inhuman. The curve of her lips held the cruel satisfaction of a hunter watching its prey.“You can run all you want, Kayla,” she said, her voice smooth and mocking. “But you w

  • Love me again, Dear Ex wife!   Chapter 160

Kayla’s POVThe blackness was closing in on me as an organism. I was sitting on the cold floor and drew my knees close to my chest and the pounding of my heart was so fierce that it was beating in my ears. The silence was intolerable, with the dull buzz of electricity and the plop, plop, plop of the drip of water somewhere in the background of the walls.I counted my breaths to keep myself from unraveling. One. Two. Three. When the lights finally flickered back on, they were dimmer than before, their pale glow painting long shadows across the sterile room. My eyes darted to the mirror on the far wall—the one where my reflection had smiled at me before. But now, it was empty. Just glass and silence.I forced myself to stand, even though my legs trembled under my weight. The machines that had once monitored me were now off, their screens black. On the table beside them was a small silver tray that hadn’t been there before. And on it, a folded note.My fingers shook as I picked it up. Th

  • Love me again, Dear Ex wife!   Chapter 159

Kayla’s POVWhen I opened my eyes, the world felt… wrong. The ceiling above me was too white, too perfect, the sterile glow of fluorescent lights humming quietly. The smell of antiseptic filled my nose, and for a moment, I thought I was in a hospital. But when I turned my head, my breath caught. This wasn’t any hospital I remembered. The walls were windowless. The only exit was a single steel door, locked from the outside. Machines hummed softly beside my bed, their wires tangled around my wrists like restraints.Panic surged through me. I sat up sharply, ripping the cords free, my chest heaving. My voice came out hoarse. “Damien?”No answer.I swung my legs over the edge of the bed, my bare feet touching the cold floor. The faint reflection on the polished surface sent a chill up my spine—it was me, but not me. My reflection lagged, blinking half a second slower than I did.My throat tightened. “No,” I whispered. “You’re not real. You can’t be.”A soft click broke the silence. The st

  • Love me again, Dear Ex wife!   Chapter 158

Kayla’s POVI woke to the sound of rain tapping against the window, each drop slow and deliberate, like the world was holding its breath with me. My body felt heavy, as though the night itself had seeped into my bones. I didn’t remember falling asleep. The last thing I recalled was Damien’s voice whispering my name, his hand tangled with mine as the storm gathered around us.But now the room was cold and empty. The faint flicker of candlelight illuminated the cracked walls. The air smelled of damp earth and smoke. We had taken shelter in an abandoned cabin deep in the woods after the car failed us. Damien had worked through the night to board the broken windows, to make me feel safe. But safety was an illusion, one that cracked a little more each time she whispered in my ear.“You can’t keep pretending I’m not real.”I pressed my palms to my ears, but the voice came from inside me. No sound escaped my lips, but she laughed anyway, her amusement echoing through my mind. The door creake
