Chapter 4

Penulis: Jean Laing
By the time I got home, it was already close to 2:00 pm. A wave of hunger hit me, my stomach protesting and reminding me that I hadn't eaten in far too long.

Without hesitation, I ordered myself a bowl of chitterlings.

In the past, because of Logan's obsession with cleanliness at home, I had never dared to order food that would likely make a mess. On top of that, the smell of chitterlings always made him frown.

But now, who cared about him? I was going to eat it no matter what.

While waiting for the delivery, I unintentionally caught a glimpse of Zoey's latest social media update. It was a video showing Logan's sharp jawline as he carried a young woman in his arms, running through a hospital corridor.

Although the young woman's face wasn't visible in the video, I knew it was Zoey.

The caption read: "The moment I saw you, there was a tsunami in my heart."

I didn't bother reacting to this provocation—it had happened too many times before.

Three years ago, Zoey started her master's program. That was when she fell for Logan, her young and handsome professor, at first sight.

On that very day, she posted a photo of Logan's back with the caption: "I guess this is the most sensible kind of crush—I love you, but you are free to live your life. The love is deep, but I won't entangle myself with you.

"My love for you isn't based on lust or mere physical attraction. I wish you well, even if you have nothing to do with me in the end."

From then onward, she became his number-one pursuer. She chased after him all the way from the university back to our home. Her pursuit became public knowledge.

A year ago, her parents wanted to marry her off after receiving a monetary gift of 100 thousand dollars from her suitor. Zoey stood on the rooftop of the restaurant where Logan and I were celebrating our second wedding anniversary.

She posted a photo overlooking the street below, perfectly framing the twin towers that were at a distance in it. The photo was captioned: "Maybe we'll meet again in the next life."

Of course, Logan went to comfort her. Meanwhile, I sat alone in the restaurant until sunrise.

When Logan finally returned with a tearful Zoey, whom he had led down from the rooftop with all the tenderness in the world, I lost it. I flipped the table, causing everything on it to drop to the floor and shatter into pieces with a loud smash.

And what happened next? Zoey ran, and Logan chased after her. It was then I knew she had him under her spell and wrapped around her finger.

He didn't come home for a week. I didn't return home for a month.

When we both eventually came back, we silently agreed not to bring it up again. We promised that we'd celebrate the next anniversary properly.

But sadly, even this one wasn't properly celebrated either. And now, there wouldn't be another chance to make it up.

In the past, I watched her social media like a hawk, monitoring Logan's every move. Every time I found something inappropriate, it always led to a huge argument between us.

Logan thought I was making a big deal out of nothing. Deep down, I believed his feelings for me had waned and shifted.

But now, these little stunts no longer stirred anything in me.

I took a deep breath and walked toward Logan. When he saw me approaching him, a mix of anticipation and unease flashed in his eyes. He quickly ran toward me."I'm sorry, Tori," Logan said, his voice trembling slightly as he extended a bouquet of champagne-colored roses toward me."Can you forgive me just this once?" His eyes were filled with hope. It seemed as if he believed this gesture could make up for everything."Mr. Bennett, how many times do I need to say this? We're divorced. We have nothing to do with each other anymore," I said coolly, my gaze icy. I hoped this was enough for him to see the determination and seriousness in my eyes."In my heart, we never got divorced," Logan said softly.I shook my head slightly and leaned closer so that only the two of us could hear what I was saying. "Logan, it's over between us. You need to be honest with yourself and not put on meaningless acts like this."Disappointment flickered across his face. Still, he insisted, "This isn't

Since Logan refused to sign the divorce papers, I decisively handed everything over to my lawyer and filed for divorce proceedings to be carried out. Following the court's judgment, our relationship finally came to an end. After our divorce, the weight that had been pressing down on me was finally lifted. I threw myself wholeheartedly into my work.Occasionally, I heard bits and pieces about Logan through mutual friends. They said he had been making a lot of mistakes in his teaching, which ultimately cost him his promotion to become a full-time lecturer. Not only did his career falter, but his personal life also fell into disarray. The once-dignified and meticulous Logan Bennett began to neglect his appearance. Eventually, he shut himself away and became immersed in his own world. He was unwilling to face the world outside. As for Zoey, she refused to move out of her dorm even after graduating and was forcibly evicted. Her parents had stormed into the university to demand that she

"Logan, don't you remember that you said the same thing the last time? Didn't I give you a chance? I gave our relationship a year. Didn't you notice I spent most of this past year at home? I even brought up having a child, and you were the one who said to wait a little longer. Have you forgotten?" I asked tiredly. My words rendered him silent."Did I? No, I don't remember that. It doesn't matter. As long as we still love each other, that's all that matters. I love you, Victoria," Logan said, clutching at straws. He then fell into quiet reflection as if trying to recall if I'd said all that."Do you love me? No, Logan. You don't love me anymore—you just haven't realized it. Otherwise, you would've noticed. I gave up being an athlete a year ago. I'm a professional manager now," I stated plainly."Since when?" Logan asked, visibly shocked. He knew how much being an athlete meant to me.Soren interjected sarcastically, "While you were busy taking care of that frail, sickly student of

By the time I finished unpacking in the apartment I rented, it was late at night. Logan still hadn't responded to my messages.I began to suspect that he hadn't even seen the divorce agreement. He didn't reply to my texts or answer my calls. When I tried calling again, Zoey picked up.Before I could say a word, she immediately started to stake her claim over Logan. "Listen here, Logan is in the shower right now. Don't think using tricks like this will…"I didn't wait for her to finish. I hung up and blocked both of their numbers. The heavy weight on my heart began to lift as I stepped into the tennis club. This had always been my domain—this was the place where I had full control and could channel my passion.I conducted a thorough review of the club's operations and identified areas for improvement based on my years of experience. Next, I gathered the team to share my observations and plans. They were thrilled about my return. Their confidence in me was evident as they pledged t

The arrival of the delivery driver broke the brief silence. My stomach was empty, and the hunger left me uninterested in dealing with them any further. However, Zoey covered her nose and frowned hard as if what lay before her wasn't food but a pile of trash."That smell… I can't…" she complained, dry-retching dramatically."Throw it away," Logan ordered coldly, his voice devoid of any warmth.I ignored them and grabbed my food. Then, I hopped toward the table on one foot.Just as I was about to hop up, I felt a force push me from behind. I lost my balance and fell to the ground, taking the bowl of chitterlings with me. The broth splattered everywhere, drenching me completely. The mixture of broth and chitterlings clinging to my clothes made me feel utterly pathetic. I tried to get up but found myself too weak to do so. As I hadn't eaten anything yet after more than half a day, I couldn't muster any strength at that moment. From behind me, Zoey feigned concern and pretended to as

The doorbell rang, and a surge of excitement rose within me. I thought my long-awaited bowl of chitterlings had finally arrived.Balancing myself on one foot, I carefully hopped toward the door. But when I opened it, I saw Logan and Zoey standing outside. The disappointment on my face did not escape their notice."I left in such a hurry yesterday that I forgot my keys," Logan explained flatly. As he spoke, he casually picked up the pair of slippers that had tortoise cartoons on them. I had always cherished those slippers, so I'd never worn them. Yet, he handed them to Zoey. Those slippers had once been exclusively mine, but now he gave them away without a second thought."You don't need to explain anything to me," I said, my mind focused on my dinner. I hopped over to the table to grab my phone, intending to check the delivery driver's location."Victoria, it's all my fault. Don't be angry at Logan," Zoey immediately said in a trembling voice, her eyes welling up with tears."W
