Chapter 5

Author: Perfect Timing
Because of Sean's recklessness, I lost Mom. And this cost us our eight-year relationship.

After the funeral, I accepted the company's transfer order and went to work at a new branch. During that time, I sold my house as quickly as possible, packed up what little I had left, and left Horton behind.

I went on Sean's social media one last time before boarding the plane. Ten minutes earlier, he had posted a video of himself skiing abroad, laughing heartily alongside Lavender.

I blocked and deleted every account, number, and trace of him from my life.

Blinking, I pulled myself back to the present and pushed aside the painful memory.

"Janelle, you're turning 30, aren't you?" Wynne pouted, noticing my lack of response. "Yet you're still acting like some romance novel protagonist, running off with a baby!

"You've been hiding for almost a year just to make Sean feel guilty, haven't you? If you really hurt our latest family member, you'll be sorry."

I was stunned before realizing Wynne

After hearing what had happened today, Keith frowned and began packing."What are you doing?" I asked, watching him bustle around the house. "Honey, I'm worried that person might come and bother you again," he replied, his expression solemn. "Let's move to my parents' place. They've been asking me to come home for a while. With the maids, housekeepers, and security there, he won't be able to get close to you."Seeing him so tense, I reached out and pinched his cheek. "What are you scared of? He wouldn't dare do anything to me. Even if he comes, I can drive him off again."But in the end, I still went to Keith's hometown and decided to stay there until the due date.Mr. Middleton Senior and Mrs. Middleton Senior were delighted to see us. Even Keith's eldest sister, Rhea Middleton, made time to come back despite her busy schedule as a CEO.Life at home was very comfortable, though occasionally I would receive messages from the security chief about someone looking for me. I knew

Sean tried to explain, "We checked the surveillance from the time Lavender attempted to commit suicide. I saw a woman with a similar build to yours, wearing the same outfit. I thought—""Did you actually see her face or hear her speak?Sean's face went pale. He shook his head. "There are so many people with similar builds and identical outfits. Just because the two happened to coincide, you think I'd boldly report her to the school like that?" I shouted, my voice dripping with fury."Don't you find that strange? Don't you think someone was deliberately setting you up? There's no way you didn't consider that. And yet you still stubbornly blamed me, even without any evidence. "It's only because you'd grown tired of me, someone you'd known for eight years. You preferred your dear colleague, who's much younger than I am. That's why your mind was set on avenging her."He wanted to argue, but I cut him off. "Don't deny it. Our wedding was ruined. And when I left Horton, you and Laven

After that day, I never saw Wynne again and gradually forgot our conversation. My life now was happy and fulfilling. I had a handsome, gentle husband and a baby on the way. If Mom could see how I was living now, she would be happy for me.But I never expected Sean to show up.At 35 weeks pregnant, I often took walks in the community square. This was an upscale neighborhood, home to the children of wealthy families and even some celebrities. The security guards were responsible and attentive, handling deliveries themselves, so outsiders rarely had reason to enter. So when I ran into Sean, I was startled."How did you get in?" I asked, frowning. His gaze never left me. Slowly, his eyes dropped to my belly, and they reddened. Tears glistened in them. After bumping into Wynne at the hospital, I had a feeling I would meet Sean soon. I just didn't expect this day to come so soon. What also surprised me was how calm I felt when I saw him. I knew I had completely let go of him."Jane

On my way back, I got a call from the hospital. Mom's condition had turned critical, and she was rushed into the ICU.I couldn't bother to continue wallowing in grief. I had the driver change direction and sped toward the hospital. Mom was safe for now, but the doctor told me that her condition might worsen intermittently. She had at most a month to live.I collapsed beside her bed and bawled my eyes out. She stroked my hair, her touch as gentle as it always had been."Sweetheart, don't cry. It's a good thing that I'm dying. I won't drag you down anymore," she said weakly. "It's just a pity that I can't see you get married."Wiping my tears, I held Mom's hands tightly and said firmly, "Sean proposed to me a few days ago. I had wanted to tell you this in a few days. Don't worry, Mom. I'll make sure you see me get married."Right after I left the hospital, I called Sean. Regardless of the things that had happened between us, I hoped he'd cooperate this once. But I didn't know t

After that, Sean texted me a few times. I didn't respond to his messages, and he stopped sending them.A week before my birthday, I thought I'd have to spend it alone. But just before midnight, Sean appeared in front of me despite the pouring rain, holding a cake. He put a necklace on me and apologized. "That day was my fault," he said. "I didn't make you feel secure enough, and that's on me. Don't worry. Once this project is over, I'll talk to my family about our wedding."After eight years together, this was the first time he had ever given me a promise like that. I counted the days, eagerly anticipating our wedding. But I would later realize that day was still far away. After we reconciled, Sean came home every day after work, and we enjoyed our time together. For about two weeks, life felt peaceful. Then he became busy with work again. One day, I went to dinner with my boss. As the meal ended, I noticed Sean sitting in the corner of the restaurant with Lavender. Before I cou
