Iulat
My grandparents, Timothy Shaw and Dorothy Elmer, show up one day to ask for 30 thousand dollars. In response, my wife, Jade Quinn, shuts the door in my face. She refuses to discuss the topic of a loan or open the door for anyone. All she does is send me a text message that reads, "I earn a fixed salary. How could I possibly come up with 30 thousand dollars on the fly? Don't you have other colleagues and classmates? Just ask them for a loan." I mull over the message as my hand hovers over the study door's knob. Through a crack in the door, I can see her on a video call with a male student named Nicholas Dion. She says to him, "Nicky, I've transferred 200 thousand dollars to your bank account. It's not safe for a young man like you to live in a rented place off-campus. Consider the money a gift from me for you to use as a down payment." My hand freezes in midair, trembling slightly. Just then, the door is opened, and Jade sees me standing outside the door. She offers no explanation and shows no sign of guilt. She simply explains unhurriedly, "I married you and not your entire family, so I'm not letting just anyone mooch off of me. I worked hard to earn my money too." She closes the door in my face. She was a mere inch away from catching my hand in the doorframe, but she showed no hesitation. I clench my hands into fists, understanding abruptly dawning on me. It turns out that our marriage is worth less than 30 thousand dollars to her.

Love without Credit Chapter 9
Jade stopped moving and stayed rooted to the spot.I continued, my gaze growing colder as I spoke, "Because I gave them 30 thousand dollars the night before and told them that it was from you. The hotel staff told me that despite being bad with directions, they spent a long time asking the front desk for directions before taking the bus to find you."They did it in order to thank you, but what did you do? You and your dearest student ran them over with a car… and instead of rushing them to a hospital immediately, you left them to lie in a pool of their own blood, bleeding their chances of survival away."I clenched my fists and sneered through gritted teeth."You're asking me to save you now, Jade, yet why didn't you save them back then? Was it because they were already 90 years old and were not long for this world anyway? Were they 'bad investments' in your eyes and thus not worth saving?"Every question I asked seemed to strike her like a physical blow.Jade stared at me with w

The lawsuit practically ended in an overwhelming victory for my side.Surveillance cameras had caught the moment Nicholas drove over the bodies of my grandparents.Despite Jade's efforts to buy the silence of the surveillance operators, it didn't stop Artemis and me from obtaining some firsthand footage.Coupled with witness testimonies and physical evidence, both Jade and Nicholas were unable to escape blame. On the day the verdict was handed down, Nicholas even turned on Jade in order to secure a lighter sentence. He pointed at her and cried toward the judge and the council, "Your Honor and dear councilmen, you've got it all wrong! It was Ms. Quinn who incited me to floor the accelerator that day."She told me that the elderly duo were insatiably greedy and had approached her to ask for or borrow money multiple times, like a couple of nasty leeches. She hated them, which is why… I didn't have ill intentions, but she was carrying my child and threatened me into doing it."Gasps

I watched as Jade shifted through a variety of emotions.A few seconds later, she finally regained her senses and looked at me with gritted teeth."Aiden, aren't you going overboard? Not only do you refuse to sign the private settlement form, but now you even want me to give up all my marital assets!"I lifted my hand, took the divorce agreement from Artemis, and presented it to Jade once more.I didn't argue or say anything at all. In fact, I didn't even look at her.I simply gazed at the covers while saying slowly and clearly, "Sign it, or don't. I stand to gain either way. I saved records of every penny you spent on Nicholas and evidence of every favor you did for him, including the conversation we just had."Jade froze, her hand hanging in midair. Her entire body seemed to sway. The room was dead silent. After a long moment, she picked up a pen with trembling hands and wrote down her name on the divorce agreement with heavy, careful strokes.I leaned back against the pillo

When I next regained consciousness, it felt like a century had gone by.The white lights above me were blinding. My eyes stung, but no tears welled up.I knew that my grandparents, who had taken care of me since I was a child, were no longer around.Their bodies had probably been taken to the morgue. It was very quiet in the hospital ward, quiet enough that I could hear Jade comforting Nicholas from the doorway. She was saying in a low voice, "Honey, he just fainted, and he also lost his grandparents. I can't leave right now. Give me a few more days. Don't worry. I'll definitely sort this incident out for you."I couldn't hear Nicholas' reply through the phone, but Jade lowered her voice even further. She asked coyly, "Didn't I leave a bank card with you before I left, you rascal? It contains the funding for my research team, so watch your spending…"As I listened to her voice and gazed at the blinking red light on my phone, I gradually broke into a smile. When the door was op
