Chapter 7

Author: Lil' Falafel
"That's right! Does he think we've never seen a sick man before?"

"Look at him, all healthy, glowing, walking around like nothing's wrong! What kind of terminal patient looks like that?"

"Don't you get it? It's all just to get inside that woman's house!"

"Tsk, tsk… how shameless can you be? Coming up with a fake illness just to climb into her family. Unbelievable!"

The neighbors' voices carried down the street, full of gossip and mockery.

Julia's face turned ashen. Her expression went cold. "Jake, what nonsense are you spouting? I only see him as a brother and nothing else. Stop making baseless accusations!

"And you, as my husband, don't you care at all about our family's reputation?"

I locked eyes with her and spoke slowly, clearly, each word deliberate, "How many times do I have to say it? We're already divorced."

Seeing his mother humiliated in front of the neighbors, Ryan didn't think twice. He charged toward me, furious, ready to teach me a lesson.

  • Loved in Rebirth   Chapter 9

In the end, Henry was caught by Margot's people and dragged back. After that, all news about him disappeared completely.Time passed quickly. A month slipped by in the blink of an eye.One day, while I was out shopping, I ran into Julia. She looked exhausted with dark circles under her eyes. Her face was drawn and pale, as if she hadn't slept properly in weeks. However, her eyes… her eyes stayed fixed on my face, as though she wanted to memorize every line of it. Her lips trembled as she finally spoke, "Jake, I'm leaving."I nodded. "Safe travels."She stood there, motionless, stunned. Then, in a small voice, she asked, "If I don't make it back… will you be sad?"I didn't answer right away.Of course, I'd feel sad, but I also knew it would fade with time. So I said nothing, turned, and walked away.Understanding hit her all at once. Panic flickered across her face; she looked lost, almost childlike. She cried out behind me, her voice breaking, "Jake, I'm sorry!"Her shoulders

"But I'm sorry. Now it's you who don't deserve it."It was the first time I'd ever seen Julia look so humble. In front of me, she'd always held her head high."I thought you were just bluffing," she said quietly. "Using the divorce to threaten me…"We've hurt you, I know that. But you still have feelings for us, don't you? We can still go back to the way things were! If you just come home with me, I'll stay by your side. I'll love you again, truly."I let out a short, mocking laugh. "Funny… that sounds familiar. Almost like what I heard at our wedding ceremony."Julia held my gaze for a long moment, silent. I stared back, unflinching. She was the first to look away. "Are you really willing to give up the children you raised with so much effort and love? Jake, don't do something you'll regret.""I don't want anything that can't be taught loyalty," I said coldly. "I believe Liam and Lila will turn out far better than they ever will. We're divorced. From now on, don't come looking

  • Loved in Rebirth   Chapter 6

"Was it really necessary for you to come all the way here?" Julia said softly, her voice tired. "I already know the kids wronged you. I've punished the two little brats and made them reflect on what they did. I brought Ryan and Ella to apologize."She nudged the children toward me.The kids I had poured my heart and soul into raising walked toward me, dragging their feet, faces sullen and unwilling."I was wrong," Ryan mumbled. "I'm sorry."I gave a small, humorless smile. A half-hearted apology like that? I wasn't accepting it."You spread lies without knowing the truth, and you think a simple 'sorry' fixes it?" I said coldly. "Or is this how you raise your children, Julia? All talk and no action? No wonder you've raised such 'dutiful' kids, ones who'd slander their own father."In the past, no matter what trouble my children caused, I'd never been able to bring myself to scold them harshly. I'd always spoken gently, patiently explaining right from wrong.Julia clearly hadn't e

Even the people Henry had hired to keep tabs on me didn't notice when I slipped away.I didn't return to our house in Astoria City. Instead, I went south to the place where my family's fortune had begun, and where I was born.Slender willow branches swayed in the wind, their green tips brushing together as they danced. On the lake, a boatman lifted his sail with practiced ease, carving soft ripples across the glassy water.Mist and drizzle blurred the horizon, painting a scene that looked like a living watercolor. People bustled along the streets, laughter and chatter filling the air. It was a simple, unpretentious kind of peace. My father had found me a place to stay: a small house with a courtyard, full of flowers and green plants. It looked calm and felt even more tranquil. The next day, the rain stopped and the sun came out. Warm light spilled over everything.I went to the hospital for a routine check-up. As I was leaving, I accidentally bumped into a man. I apologized, but

"Fine, fine!" Julia snapped, clearly fed up. She signed the divorce agreement in a burst of anger. Then we went to the courthouse and filed the divorce. "Don't come crying back when you regret it!"I calmly took out another folder."Since we're officially divorced, I don't want a cent of your money," I said. "Just return the private funds I contributed to your family. I trust that someone of your background, a Summers heiress, wouldn't stoop to owing a country boy like me money."Julia let out a sharp laugh, half furious, half mocking. "Unbelievable… Tom! Return Mr. Reed's money right now!"The butler, Tom Smith, looked stricken, his voice trembling. "Ms. Summers, the company hasn't been doing well in recent years. All the household expenses came from Mr. Reed's private assets. There's nothing left to return at the moment."Julia froze, her face filled with shock, as if she truly had no idea. Nonetheless, she refused to show weakness in front of me. "Don't worry. The Summers famil
