Chapter 04: Breakfast
*Melissa's pov*It was early the next morning and Veronica had cooked different varieties of meals. She had asked me and some other workers to set them on the dinning table. According to what I heard from the rest workers, Mr Brown and his fiancee would be having a breakfast together this morning. So, the woman I met on the stairs yesterday was his fiancee? They were really a match, judging from the attitude.I was dropping the last dish on the plush table when the infuriating couple came downstairs. My eyes acted on its own and I found myself staring at the fiancee. She was a brunette beauty, with a radiant fair skin that glowed from obvious care. She wore a loose shirt and her hair was left in loose waves that framed her face. From a mere look and you would tell she was from a wealthy family.Mr Brown had a little smile on his face that appeared to be forced. He said something to her and she giggled. I pulled my eyes away from them before they noticed me staring. I was about to leave when I heard the fiancee's voice."Hey! Hey! Y'all should get back here," she roared. Me and the other two girls that had set the table turned to her at the same time. "I don't want this here," she said irritatedly, and we exchanged glances wondering what she was talking about."What are you talking about, ma'am," one of the blonde girl who was standing by my left asked her."Are you dumb?" She thundered. "I said I...we don't want the food on that table, take everything to the front porch. We need some breath of fresh air. Right, baby?" She said, turning to Mr Brown who had a bored expression with a smile."If that's what you want, Mia. Then, it's okay."After he said that, he turned and started walking in the opposite direction."What are you still standing there like trees doing?" She asked turning to us and we immediately carried a plate each and started moving. The blonde who had asked Mia the question earlier led the way to the porch. We got there and met Mr Brown already sitted with his usual aloof expression. He seemed not to be looking forward to the breakfast. Anyway that was his business.I couldn't help admire the porch. It had a see through glass from which you can admire the beautiful trees and flowers in the compound."You, come here!" Mr Brown ordered me before I could leave with the other two guys. I moved to where he was fidgeting. What had I done again? He was about to say something when Mia arrived and took her seat before looking at me from head to toe. Their gazes on me made me feel so small."What are you still doing here? Of do you suddenly want to dine with us?" She asked, eyeing me."No, ma'am. Mr Brown called me."She turned to look at him but he didn't look back. Infact, he acted like he couldn't hear us both."Baby," she called in a small voice, tapping him lightly, before he turned to her. "Why did you ask her to stay back? I want her gone, her presence would be disturbing," she whined battering her lashes cutely at him.I looked from her to Mr Brown, waiting for him to agree and excuse me. If there was anything I wanted, it was to get out of there and from their presence."I want to punish her for not returning with my food yesterday," he finally answered, and I was left in shock. Didn't the fiancee tell him that she had met me on the stairs and driven me back before I stole her man?"I..I was."My word hung in my throat when a glass of wine was emptied on my face."You weren't asked to talk!" Mia yelled angrily with the glass on her hand. I stared at her in disbelief, my eyes stinging with tears. I used my hand to try to wipe the wine off my face, but she shouted again. "Dare you to touch that."Fuck! She poured a wine on me and now she doesn't want me to clean it? They were getting into my eyes and it hurt. I lowered my head in an attempt to have them drip faster from my face. The wine and my tears mixed dropped lightly on the floor."You know I can always help you punish anyone, babe," she said with a smile, caressing Mr Brown lightly, who didn't say anything as he dug into his food. If what she did pleased or displeased him, he didn't show it. Why on earth would it even displease him,he would had done worse to me after all."Get out! I would call for you later," Mr Brown suddenly said and I quickly dashed out of the place, relieved.I rushed into the room I was given in the maid quarter and slumped on the bed crying. What exactly did I do to Mia that she was adding to the frustrations I was already receiving from Mr Brown. I cried to my heart fill before I took my phone to check to know if my dad had called, but I still didn't see anything.I haven't heard from him since yesterday and It was beginning to get me really worried. I had called him severally last night before I retired to bed but he didn't take my calls.I was about to call him again when I heard a knock on the door. I quickly cleaned my face and got up to answer it. Maybe I was needed back in the kitchen.I was more than surprised, No! Shocked to see Mr Brown standing outside the door. He was the last person I had expected to be the one knocking. My eyes darted around, searching for Mia but she wasn't anywhere near there. Had he come to give me the punishment? I stood there avoiding his face, my hands slightly shaken."I see you're lazing around when you're supposed to be working," he said sounding angry."No, I was just..."The word died in my mouth when I couldn't find the suitable thing that I could say to him. I had been working since yesterday, woke up as early as 5am this morning and continued, and just a moment of rest and he concludes I'm lazing around?"You can't deny it, can you?" He asked with a sneer and I shook my head, just wanting him to be done with his accusation so that I could go back to the kitchen. "Good," he stated. "Now you're not just going to be punished for starving me last but also for lazing around your duty."I was still trying to process what he had just said before two guards approached and grabbed me, dragging me away. Where were they taking me?"Let me go, please!" I cried, struggling to free myself from them. "Mr Brown please, I'm sorry!" I shouted wishing it would pacify him. They dragged me past the main house and into a different building. It looked a bit old and empty. I kept crying in utter and thrashing my feet on the floor, but the guards didn't budge. My strength was nothing compared to theirs. We finally got to a door and they paused, and I heard Mr Brown's voice from behind us."Stop," He ordered in a casual tone. I instantly felt relief, thinking I was finally free. "Take her to the other door."At that they began dragging me to the opposite side of the house until we got to a dark hallway. I heard a door open and I was pushed inside, an eerie darkness welcoming me.Chapter 05: Horror*Melissa's POV*I scrambled to my feet ran back to the door, but it shut with a loud bang before I could reach. I began to hit and call for help but only the silence and darkness answered."Mr Brown, please!" I shouted as loud as I could, hoping he was still around and could hear me, but I later realized that was a hopeless hope. After what seemed like eternity and still not getting any help, I realized I might as well save my strength.I slumped on the hard ground wailing. Beads of sweat gathered on my forehead and I felt my head banging. I was even hungry and tired. My stomach at that moment made a growling sound and I rubbed it. I had not had anything to eat this morning as we were supposed to finish with our chores before eating.I looked around the darkness hoping to find a ray of light somewhere. I didn't even know if I meant figuratively. Everything for the past year had just been unpleasant. Different painful memories from the time my mom first fell I'll fil
Chapter 06: Father*Melissa's POV*"I guess you're Ms Wood. Your father is in the hospital, he's badly injured and your presence is needed."The stranger's voice echoed in my ears, making me go dumb for some time. I tried to open my mouth to talk, to ask which hospital but no word formed in my mouth. Fear gripped and tightened my chest painfully."Hello, hello. Ms Wood are you there?"I heard the stranger's urgent voice but I still couldn't say anything. "If you can still hear me, come to Oak Park hospital, that's where your father is admitted."With that, the call ended. I shakily removed the phone from my ear and in the next moment, I ran like a mad woman in the direction of the main mansion. I burst into the house, my heart racing with worry and fear. The attention of the maids who were busy cleaning and doing other work turned to me, but I couldn't bring myself to care. Not wasting any time, i ran up the stairs, stopping only when I reached Mr Brown's door.My heart hammered agai
Chapter 07: Raged*Williams' POV*I was raged about what transpired between me and Melissa back in the darkroom."How dare her say that to me!" I lashed out when I got inside my room. I felt a little guilty when I saw how haggard and weak she looked, but now I felt nothing other than intense anger. She was my property after all, and I had the right to do whatever I wanted with her."By the time I'm done with her, we'll see if that mouth of hers would still function properly," I said barging into the little living room in my bedroom. I instantly noticed how Mia quickly put off the screen light of her phone and tossed it away, before smiling sheepishly at me."Hey baby, you look upset," she said and walked up to meet me. She rubbed my chest seductively but all I needed at this moment was to be far from her. I slowly removed her hand that was on my chest and turned to go back to the bedroom but she followed me."Baby, what's wrong? Why do you look so upset. Come here, let me help you fee
Chapter 08: Caught*Williams' POV*"Boss, we just spotted Ms Smith entering Beacon resort with Mister Marvin Carter," Thomas reported, his voice crackling over the line. "What were they doing?" I demanded."They seemed...flirty," Thomas said, his voice wavering slightly. "I couldn't tell for sure, sir. They went into the lobby together, talking and holding hands.Mia, Marvin Carter, a new producer in the movie industry where Mia recently got a new gig, together in an unpopular resort. That only adds up to one thing. My jaws clenched and I tightened my hand around the phone, so, my suspicion was right. So the bitch was really going out with other men while she's with me. Does she know what that could do to my image? I felt angry that she didn't think about the disrespect her infidelity could bring me, but at the same time I couldn't help but feel happy that I could finally see something to show my grandpa."Stay put and keep a low profile," I barked into the phone, my voice betraying
Chapter 09: BFF*Melissa's POV*"You know I'll always be here for you, huh?" Hayley told me before pulling me into a hug. Hayley had been my best friend since I could remember, and we both had been through thick and thorns together.I had been asked to go home last night, that only patient were allowed to sleep in the intensive care units of the hospital. So, I had called Hayley when I got back home as I was too heart broken to sleep on my own, and she came right away. She had stayed awake with me almost until this morning, as I found it difficult to sleep, and now we were both up, getting ready to leave for the hospital."Thank you for everything, Lee. Thanks for always being around," I whispered quietly. "I don't know what I could even do without you.""Nothing baby girl," she said, making an attempt to joke and I chuckled. "I'm serious!and don't even try.""Yes ma'am, I wouldn't dare!" I said and we both laughed. I really loved her."Good! Now let's get going. I wouldn't want dad l
Chapter 10: Wife*Melissa's POV*I stood rooted in the spot and for a moment, fear gripped my chest tight. Why was he here again? It's not even up to two days yet. I lifted my eyes to look at him and he just stood there, saying nothing. For a moment we just engaged in a staring contest, those icy blue eyes boring into me and causing more shivers in my bone. After some time, I managed to move my legs to find out what it was he wanted.Every step I took closer to him made me want to turn back and just run away, but I knew I wouldn't run far before I would be caught."Good afternoon Mr Brown," I managed to say when I was a few distance from him."Get into the car."That was the reply I got. What was even wrong with this man? My chest tightened at the thought of not being able to go back to the hospital by evening to see my dad again."What? You said I could take four days off to take care of my sick father," I stated, hoping he might had forgotten and just needed a reminder."I've change
Chapter 11: Marriage*Melissa's POV*A week had past since williams made me his wife against my wish. I had moved out of the maid's quarter and was now living in the same floor but a different room from his. He had allowed me to go see my father only a few times since he brought me here for the second time. At least that was something to be thankful for.Today, williams and I would be going to register the wedding in a court. I had kept it a secret from my dad as I didn't want him to worry too much about me until he fully recovered. I would be doing this for him, at least he wouldn't have to worry about the debt anymore.I blinked severally to stop the tears that clouded my eyes, so that I don't ruin the makeup on my face."It's time to put on your gown ma'am," the makeup artist, a red haired woman whom williams had brought to dress me up told me. I smiled sadly before standing up from the front of the vanity mirror. My gaze travelled to the short white gown that laid beautifully on t
Chapter 12: Unexpected shivers*Melissa's POV*"You can continue," Williams said, turning to the officiator again. "My guards would deal with that."The officiant nodded and began to speak again, but the commotion outside increased and by now I was already a trembling mess. I didn't want to be caught up in their drama again today. The scars Mia inflicted on my face the last time were just healing up and I'm not ready to receive some others again."Mr Br...e'm williams, please are you sure you won't attend to her first?" I asked with fear in my eyes. He turned to me with a cold gaze and I thinned my lips. I just hoped I had not angered him?"There's no need for that."He turned to the officiant again and gestured for him to continue. Meanwhile, he pulled out his phone and called his security team."Don't let anyone in. Not even the press. No exceptions," he said, his tone firm, and my nerves seemed to relax a bit.We finished signing the necessary paperwork and the officiant pronounced
