As soon as school was finished that day I grabbed all of my things from my locker and Asher was waiting for me out the front of the building.
“I am sorry that I did that to you. But I needed you get my point. I don’t need you or anyone else to take it easy on me.” I said.
“It’s alright. I’m not sore about it. That’s what we’re there for. And I was stupid for underestimating my opponent.” He said.
“I’m glad that you see that.” I said. And he just shook his head.
“What are you doing now?” He asked.
“Well, we have no food in our house. So, I am going grocery shopping.” I said.
“You don’t have a car.” He said.
“I know. I’m gonna go to the hospital to get the car.”
“Don’t do that. I’ll take you.”
“You want to come to the grocery store with me?” I asked, skeptically.
“Sure, why not?” He asked.
“Alright. If you don’t think it’ll be boring. Because I really do. So, it will be quick.”
“Don’t you like shopping?” He asked.
“I absolutely hate it. And I only do it when I have to.” I grimaced.
I then caught a whiff of a familiar scent and I turned around to see the Alpha coming out of the front of the school building.
“Savannah.” He sang out.
“I’ll wait here.” Asher said. So I went up the stairs feeling a little nervous as I got closer to the Alpha.
“That was impressive in practice.” Alpha Kane said.
“Thank you.” I said.
“Where did you learn to fight like that?” He asked.
“At my old pack.” I said.
“I know your previous Alpha.” Alpha Kane admitted, and I looked up at him with panic in my eyes. “What’s wrong?” He asked.
“You know Alpha Calvin?” I asked.
“We’ve met in passing. He doesn’t let she-wolves train. He doesn’t think that they have a right to. They should hide or get killed when the pack is under attack. So, how were you able to train?”
“I don’t want to get anyone in trouble.” I stuttered.
“I’m not friends with Calvin. I just know him. He’s an asshole and I will be the first one to admit that. I hate him. I just want to know how you were able to train in his pack when he doesn’t let any females train.” He said.
“It was his head warrior. He trained me in secret.”
“Why would he do that?”
“Because I was a target for a lot of unwanted attention. The head warrior knew that I would need to know how to take care of myself.” I said.
“So, Brayden stuck his neck on the line for you. And only you. Why would he do that?” Alpha Kane asked.
“I don’t know. I didn’t ask. He offered and I took him up on it.” I said.
“Was there something going on with you and Brayden?” He asked.
“No. Absolutely not.” I said.
“Alright. Well, you did good today. I look forward to seeing what else you can do.” He said. And he turned around and went back inside.
I needed to calm myself down after talking to Alpha Kane. He actually scared me when he said that he knew Alpha Calvin. I thought that they might have been friends and if that was the case then Calvin would have told him that we ran away. That would have caused Alpha Kane to ask a lot of questions that I didn’t want to answer. I couldn’t answer. I was scared of Alpha Calvin finding out where I was, I couldn’t do it. I needed to make sure that mom knew all of this.
“Are you alright?” Asher asked, standing beside me.
“Oh, yeah. I’m fine. Sorry.” I said.
“That’s alright. Are we going shopping?” He asked.
“Yeah. Absolutely.” I said.
So Asher drove me to the grocery store and I grabbed a cart and started moving around the store as fast as I possibly could. I hated shopping and I just grabbed what we needed to last us a couple of weeks, so I wouldn’t have to come back.
I knew what mom’s hours were like at the hospital and I knew that she wouldn’t have a chance to go shopping at any time. So I made sure that there would be plenty of food so I wouldn’t have to come back.
We loaded it all into Asher’s car and he drove me home. We took the groceries inside but as soon as I unlocked the door and went inside I stopped, frozen in my footsteps as I looked around the house.
I had to make sure that I had the right house. All of the furniture had been replaced. It wasn’t the second hand stuff that we had this morning. Everything had been replaced with brand new furniture, throughout the whole two story house. Including our beds and everything.
My room was fully equipped with a desk now and a computer along with my new double bed.
I called my mother and she had no idea what could have happened. But she said that she would try and find out. She’ll call the Alpha. He would have a better idea than us.
Asher thought that I was acting weird but I explained to him that all of the furniture changed while we weren’t at home. And mom and I don’t know how the hell that happened.
We took all of the groceries into the kitchen and he helped me put them away and I was really grateful for him help. He actually made shopping bearable today. He made it a little less torture with him messing around in the shop and taking my mind off of what I had to do.
“When will your mother be home?” Asher asked.
“I have no idea. Hospital hours are crazy.” I said.
“I can imagine. But werewolves heal really fast so it wouldn’t be too bad.” He said.
“I don’t really know what she does there.” I said.
“Does that mean you will be eating alone?”
“What are you getting at?” I asked.
“I don’t know. I was wondering if you wanted to come to my place for dinner?”
“I can’t. I have a tonne of homework and I don’t mind eating alone. Besides, I need to cook because I always make extra for my mother so that she can eat when she gets home.” I said.
“That’s really nice of you.” He said.
“Thanks.” I said.
“Well, I’ll leave you to it. Here’s my number, store it in your phone and call or text me whenever you want.” He said, giving me a piece of paper.
“Thanks.” I said. And he turned around and left the house.
I grabbed my phone and I put the phone number in it straight away. And then I went upstairs to my room and I pulled out all of my books and I put them on my new desk that was facing the window so I could look straight out into the woods that was outside the house.
I organized everything so that I would be able to get my homework done as quick as possible, but I went downstairs and I cooked dinner first.
I made homemade lasagna and salad and when that was cooked, I ate my dinner but then I put the rest in the fridge for when mom came home.
I went upstairs to have a shower and I got dressed into an oversized shirt and shorts, which is what I usually slept in and then I sat at the desk and I started working my way through my homework.
I heard my mom come home at around 11pm and she came upstairs at first to see me and she stopped at the door when she saw all the books that were surrounding me on the desk.
“Wow. Are they trying to catch you up on homework or something?” She asked, her eyes practically popping out of her head.
“I wish. This was just from today.” I said.
“That is ridiculous. You’re in high school, not college.” She said, leaning on the door frame as she looked around my room. “You weren’t kidding about this furniture.” She said.
“I know, right. Did you get on to the Alpha?” I asked.
“I did. And he said that he thought the town’s doctor should live a little better than having second hand furniture. Apparently he ordered and paid for all of this stuff.” She exhaled.
“Why would he do that?” I asked, utterly confused.
“That’s a good question. He wouldn’t tell me. I guess he’s just trying to be nice.” She said.
“Mom. There’s something else that you need to know. I didn’t have time to tell you on the phone. Alpha Kane said that he knows Alpha Calvin.” I said.
“What?” She asked, walking into my room.
“He knows him. Apparently he doesn’t like him, but that doesn’t mean that Calvin won’t reach out and say that we ran away. You know that’s frowned upon in packs. We could be banished from here if Alpha Kane thinks that we’ve put his pack in danger.” I explained.
“Alright. If he does find out that we ran away then we’re gonna have to tell him the truth. He seems like a nice Alpha. He just gave us all this brand new furniture. And if he doesn’t like Calvin then it’s possible for him to tell Calvin to go to hell.”
“Mom. I don’t want to cause any trouble. And I don’t want Alpha Kane asking questions. I don’t want him to know the truth.” I said.
“I know. But we might not have a choice. And we will make sure that it stays with the Alpha and only the Alpha. I promise.” She said.
She kissed me on the top of the head as she left my room and I turned back around, looking out the window. I wasn’t so sure about any of this. We were the new ones in the pack.
There’s no way that Alpha Kane will choose to keep us safe if it meant endangering his pack. If Calvin finds out where we are, then we are screwed. I just knew it. Alpha Kane was already looking at me weird. And I didn’t know if I could handle him looking at me with pity. That was something that I was not going to put up with. No one pities me. EVER.
I think I found my mate in Asher, and I have to do anything in order to keep him close. I can’t risk being kicked out, which meant making sure that the Alpha knew that I wasn’t a threat. Doing anything I could to stay on his good side. The following morning when I got up at 5am I went for my usual jog around the territory but I was stopped as I was running around behind some houses by someone singing out my name. “Asher.” I said as I slowly stopped. Asher stepped out from the side of his house, looking like he had slept in the yard chair that night. “What the hell are you doing?” He asked. “Jogging. What the hell are you doing?” I asked. “Dad and I got in a fight last night so I slept out here. I didn’t want to see him.” He said. “So, you slept in the yard.” I said. “Yeah. Pretty much.” He said as he slowly got up and walked over to the fence. I just shook my head at him and tried to tame his bed hair. “You shouldn’t have to sleep in the yard when you fight with your father.” I said. “I know. He doesn’t kick me out. I choose to sleep out here. Even he calls me crazy for doing it. And a stubborn teenager.” Asher said. “Well, I have to agree with him on that.” I said. “Do you jog like this every mor
I was a little frozen where I stood in the river but Asher came around in front of me, looking completely relaxed. “We’re just going for a swim Alpha. It’s really hot today.” Asher said. “What have I told you about this Asher? This isn’t a hook up spot for teenagers.” Alpha Kane said. “We weren’t hooking up. I just wanted to show Savannah the river. It’s hot and we decided to go swimming. You can’t punish us for kissing.” Asher said. “Wanna bet. Get out and get dressed. Now.” Alpha Kane demanded. So we both got out of the river and got dressed in front of the Alpha. I looked at Asher with a worried look on my face, but he just shook his head, telling me not to worry about it. “Go home Asher. I will be talking to your father about this. Savannah, you come with me.” Alpha Kane said. “I’ll see you at school tomorrow.” Asher said, holding my hand and I nodded my head. I leaned down and picked up my bag and I followed Alpha Kane. We walked all the way back to the packhouse i
When I got up the following morning at 5am I got dressed and headed downstairs and to my surprise, Asher was waiting for me out the front. “What the hell got you out of bed this early?” I asked. “Well, I thought I might give these morning jogs a go. And I think it will be a good time for us to talk about you working for the Alpha.” He said. “Why do I get the feeling that you’re about to warn me off of working for the Alpha?” “I think there’s just a few things that you need to know.” He said. “Well, I am not giving up the job. He told me that I can work from home on the computer.” I said as we started jogging down the path. “I know. But he will also have access to your computer. He will be watching everything that you are doing on there.” Asher said and that made me look at him really skeptically. “Why would he do that? Why would he care what a teenager is looking up on the internet?” I asked. “I don’t know. But he has never had a receptionist before. So, there’s somethi
“Get Paris to the hospital. She’s going to need more than the school nurse. Daniel, get this one to my office.” The Alpha ordered. So Beta Daniel grabbed my arm and he dragged me away down the hallway and around a few corners until we got to the Alpha’s office and he forced me to sit in the chair and he closed the door behind us. He leaned on the desk looking at me the whole time but I refused to look at him. I stared out the window with a very defiant look on my face. I wasn’t going to apologize for sticking up for myself. But my mother was definitely going to hear about this one and she was going to be furious. I didn’t know how I was going to talk my way out of this. I don’t think there was a way of me talking my way out of this one. The Alpha came to his office a little while later and he told Beta Daniel to leave and he sat behind his desk and leaned back on his chair. He stared at me without saying anything and I stared back at him, defiantly. I wasn’t going to walk on eg
ALPHA KANE’S POV I was sitting at my desk looking aimlessly at these papers in front of me while Savannah was working on the computer right across from me. When her phone rang, I thought she would just ignore it since she was working, but she answered it. She kept working while she answered it though, so I didn’t mind. But when I heard her mother’s voice screaming at her on the other end I couldn’t help but snap my head up to look at her. Savannah looked at me with this strange and embarrassed look on her face and she got up from her chair and she left the office. I knew that her and her mother had a really close relationship so why the hell would her mother be screaming at her on the phone like that for no apparent reason. “Daniel.” I mind linked. “Yes Alpha.” “Are you still in the packhouse?” “Yeah. I’m in the kitchen.” Daniel said. “Savannah is in the hallway outside my office. I can’t hear because she closed the door and this room is soundproof. Try and hear what she’s
SAVANNAH’S POV I woke up to the sun shining in the windows of the car and my phone was vibrating in my pocket. I felt my cheek and it was still really sore and tender. It hurt to touch. The claw marks were definitely still there. It didn’t feel like they had started healing at all. ASHER - Hey, are we jogging this morning or not? ME - No. Not this morning. Not up for it. Won’t be at school either. ASHER - Is everything alright? ME - Just not feeling well. I’ll talk to you later. I sat up and I got in the driver’s seat and I went home. I pulled up outside the house and stared at the house before I got out of the car and I went inside. I saw my mother sitting at the kitchen table but I ignored her and I went upstairs to my bedroom and I slammed the door and locked it. Making sure that she got the hint not to talk to me. I heard her leave for work a little while later so I came out of my room and I went to the bathroom and I had a shower. When I got out of the shower I looke
ALPHA KANE POV I sat there staring at Savannah, thinking of what I could possibly say next. There was so much going through my head and so many questions that I couldn’t get them straight. It made no sense. Why would he let them leave if he wanted to kill them. They didn’t get his permission to leave. They are runaways. It is wrong for another pack to take in runaways from another Alpha, and that’s why she was so scared when she first got here. But it looks like she’s not holding back anymore. She obviously didn’t want to keep that secret from me anymore, and I was starting to wonder why. Why is she willing to tell me all of this? She knows that she could be banished from my pack if I think that they are a danger and if I think that they have broken the rules of the werewolf council. I can’t put my pack at risk, but at the same time, I am not letting her leave this pack knowing that she’s got a target on her back. I don’t care about her mother. I will gladly throw her out afte
SAVANNAH POV I wasn’t sure what time mom was going to be home tonight. And I really didn’t want to see her when she did get here. I wanted to be anywhere but here. She broke the biggest promise to me that she has ever made. And on top of that, I have cuts on my face to prove it. I wasn’t going to forgive her for this. At least, I wasn’t going to make it easy for her. So when I finished eating that night I went to the hospital and used the spare keys to her car that I had and I got in it. I sent her a text message and told her that I was taking the car, because I’m not a complete bitch, and I left the hospital and drove straight off the pack territory. I know that it is stupid and reckless, but at times, I just don’t care about being stupid and reckless. Sometimes that’s the only thing that keeps me going. The only thing that does keep me sane from all the insanity in my life. So I drove to the nearest human town and stopped at the bar just on the outskirts of town. Knowing that
