Amalthea's POV
The masked man didn't say a word, and walked past me without much of a glance as he walked out the door. What the hell just happened? One minute I thought he was going to touch me inappropriately or worse still kill me, and now, he was covering me up? What in the world is happening? “You got lucky,” the gruff man that brought me here muttered darkly. “If he didn't like you, you'd have begged for death–and it wouldn't come.” A shiver ran down my spine as his words sank in. I'm I really lucky as he said? Or would death have been a better option. I barely had time to process all that just happened when a knock came on the door, and Lara stepped in, her eyes buried to the ground as if afraid to meet my gaze. “These are for you,” Lara quietly handed me leggings, a plain top, boots and a jacket. I stared at the clothes for a few minutes, tempted to ask Lara questions, she looks like she'll have an idea of what I'm getting into, but with the way her eyes were on anywhere but on me, tells me it was a lost cause. She wouldn't breathe a word no matter what I asked her. “Thank you,” I muttered, not knowing what else to say, I changed into the clothes. Lara led me outside, and the masked man stood by a car–his car. He glanced at me with an unnerving intensity, before looking over at the gruff man. “Get your ass into the car,” the gruff man whispered harshly, and as always my legs obeyed without complaints. “Don't forget to put in a good word for me to his majesty,” the gruff man said as soon as I got into the masked man's car, and as if the gruff man didn't exist, the masked man moved over to the driver's seat, and started the car. We had barely driven fifteen minutes when my eyes began to feel heavy, like I haven't slept for days. I tried to fight the urge to sleep–I needed to at least know where I was being driven off to, but the more I fought to keep my eyes open the heavier they became. The violent screeching sound of tires jolted me awake. My heart nearly jumped out of my throat as our car veered off the road, and crashed into the woods. Pain exploded in my skull, as my head slammed against the dashboard. “Shift, we are being ambushed.” “W–what?” My heart skipped several beats. We're being ambushed? By who? I looked around but didn't see anyone–or anything. “Shift,” he stated firmly, and stepped out of the car. “Unless you want to die.” Die? The words seemed to clear my vision and senses as I saw seven hefty looking men emerge from the woods. Panic surged through me at their imposing form. “We're here for the lady,” one of the bulky men said, as I stepped out of the car. “Me?” The words left my lips before I could even blink, and this time around I feared my heart would jump out my throat. Was Lilian not satisfied with kicking me out of her brother's life that she has to send people over to kill me? Oh goddess! Please don't let him hand me over to them. “Hand her over, and we ‘might’ not hurt you,” another added Dread washed over me in different waves at their words. I looked over at the masked man, is expression unreadable. A cold sweat broke out my forehead. Dead. I was good as dead. This is definitely the end of the road for me. Back at the dungeon I thought I was ready to embrace the afterlife, but being face to face with death is on a whole different level than actually wishing for it. “Did you hear a word I just said?” The masked man hissed harshly, his eyes not leaving the men as they made their way towards us. “I–I c-can’t shift,” I stuttered, my voice barely above a whisper, tears streaming down my cheeks as the reality of my predicament dawned on me. “Skies above,” he stared at me in disbelief. “You're wolfless?” Before I could respond one of the men lunged at the masked man, shifting mid air. “Oh goddess!” I choked out, every ounce of air in my lungs getting stucked in my throat. My mind couldn't process what I was seeing for a moment, then it hit me. A werebear! I'd heard stories of them–terrifying beast from the north–but I'd never seen one. That explains while the men looked so huge, and the size of them in their beast form was–was beyond frightening. Bam! Without breaking a sweat the masked man sent the werebear flying into a tree with a single punch. My jaw dropped, for a moment I couldn't blink, every fiber in me screaming for me to take to my heels. This was my opportunity to be free, from the masked man and from the werebears. But my feet stayed rooted to the ground, dread washing over me with every single breath. I didn't know which was more terrifying, being captured by the werebear–for goddess knows what reason, or being taken away by this terribly frightening masked man. I was still trying to decide what to do when I felt a cold hand grabbed me from behind. “Gotcha!”Amalthea's POV "Where are we going?" I asked Nic for the umpteenth time but he remained silent. His mask was set in a hard mask and I wondered what was wrong."Why do I feel like we aren't going on a romantic getaway?" I asked and his lips twitched. He turned towards me and offered me a small reassuring smile and I let out a breath I hadn't realized I had been holding."What's wrong Nic?" I asked him as we stopped walking. The chirping of birds on the trees surrounding us was the only sound that could be heard as we were far away from the pack house."I'm sorry, I just have a lot on my mind." He sighed and my brows furrowed."You can talk to me about it you know," I suggested and his eyes looked like he was actually contemplating it within himself but just as his lips parted, he changed his mind."It's nothing I can't handle, don't worry," he gave me a small smile that did nothing to make me feel better."Nic...when are you going to trust me enough to op
Amalthea's POV "I think we need to focus more on your weapons," Mikayla announced as we walked towards the area where all the weapons were being kept."I know how to use the bow and arrow," I reminded her and she slowly nodded."While I agree, I need you to be an expert at wielding that weapon and you also need to learn how to use others because sometimes in battle you might not have the choice to choose your weapon and you might be forced to die with whatever you can find, that puts you at a disadvantage." Mikayla explained to me and I nodded wordlessly as she handed me a sword. She picked one for herself before she turned and I followed behind her."How are you doing?" Mikayla broke the silence between us as we walked."Fine," I muttered with a shrug. She had tried to start up a conversation with me several times since the picnic incident and while I bore no grudges against her, I was unsure how to interact with her."I see things are good with you and
Amalthea's POV "Hey what's wrong?" I asked once I saw the storm on Nic's face as he closed the door behind him."Why would you think something is wrong?" He asked as he plopped down onto the bed beside me and he scooped me into his arms. I inhaled his intoxicating sandwood scent which I had come to love, he smelled clean and I could tell he had just come out of the shower."Well your face looks like you want to murder someone, so that's that." I pointed out and he sighed as his head rested in the crook of my neck."I missed you," he whispered to me and my heart warmed."You are being avoidant..." I pointed out as my fingers gently ran through his hair."Are you doubting that I missed you?" His head rose to stare into my eyes and I gave him a quick peck on his lips."Of course not but I know something is wrong and you don't want to talk about it," I pressed and he sighed."You are relentless aren't you," he commented as he stared up at the ceiling.
Nicholson's POV "Are you going to tell me why you treated everyone out yesterday?" Callum asked as we sparred."Does it matter? I can't just decide to do something nice for my pack members?" I asked as I dodged a kick then a punch which he tried to deliver. I bounced on the balls of my feet as I worked quickly and delivered two mighty punches to Callum's abdomen and he groaned as he took a few steps back."We agreed you wouldn't use your alpha strength," Callum frowned at me and I chuckled."I'm not using my alpha strength Call, just admit you are simply weak," I teased and fire flashed in Callum's eyes."I'll give you the chance to surrender now." I continued and with renewed strength, Callum attacked me with fervor which I matched and we gave it our all as we attacked, defended and danced around each other. I had a lot of energy to let off and this was the best possible way to do it."Fuck man, don't you ever get tired?" Callum breathed heavily."Time out," he called as he took sev
Amalthea's POV My heart beat loudly in anticipation as Nic made his way upstairs and I stared at him with wide eyes when he walked past my door and pulled open his. He gently set me onto the floor and I looked around his room. This was the first time I was here after I had sprained my ankle and a small smile graced my lips as that seemed to have happened a long time ago. The room hadn't changed much, it was still as dark yet exquisite as I remembered it...very Nic-ish.My eyes landed on his king sized bed in the middle of the room and my cheeks heated."I can hear how fast your heart is beating Thea," Nic whispered into my ear and I turned to him."We don't have to do this if you don't want to," he continued as his eyes searched mine and my heart warmed at how considerate of me he was being. I leaned on my tiptoes and gave him a teasing and lingering kiss which had him following my lips for more."If I didn't want to Nic, trust me I wouldn't even be here. I've wanted you for the long
Amalthea's POV I made my way into the pack house, carrying the bags containing items I had gotten from the grocery store as per Nic's orders.I had to admit I was a little shocked when Nic asked me to help him fetch some groceries and no matter how hard I questioned him he wouldn't bulge. He just kept on giving me vague answers. The pack house seemed quiet which was quite unusual and peculiar for a cool evening.Where was everyone?I made my way to the kitchen to drop the groceries and I stopped in my tracks once I stepped in at the site in front of me. "What are you doing?" I asked as I stared at Nic who was wearing an apron and was stirring something at the cooker. I never thought I would see the day when the big bad Lycan king looked so ridiculous."I decided to treat you," he replied as he turned to me with a bright smile. My heart throbbed as I stared at him and walked towards him."It isn't a treat if you send me to get some things for you," I pointed out as I stopped in fro
