Amalthea's POV
The masked man didn't say a word, and walked past me without much of a glance as he walked out the door. What the hell just happened? One minute I thought he was going to touch me inappropriately or worse still kill me, and now, he was covering me up? What in the world is happening? “You got lucky,” the gruff man that brought me here muttered darkly. “If he didn't like you, you'd have begged for death–and it wouldn't come.” A shiver ran down my spine as his words sank in. I'm I really lucky as he said? Or would death have been a better option. I barely had time to process all that just happened when a knock came on the door, and Lara stepped in, her eyes buried to the ground as if afraid to meet my gaze. “These are for you,” Lara quietly handed me leggings, a plain top, boots and a jacket. I stared at the clothes for a few minutes, tempted to ask Lara questions, she looks like she'll have an idea of what I'm getting into, but with the way her eyes were on anywhere but on me, tells me it was a lost cause. She wouldn't breathe a word no matter what I asked her. “Thank you,” I muttered, not knowing what else to say, I changed into the clothes. Lara led me outside, and the masked man stood by a car–his car. He glanced at me with an unnerving intensity, before looking over at the gruff man. “Get your ass into the car,” the gruff man whispered harshly, and as always my legs obeyed without complaints. “Don't forget to put in a good word for me to his majesty,” the gruff man said as soon as I got into the masked man's car, and as if the gruff man didn't exist, the masked man moved over to the driver's seat, and started the car. We had barely driven fifteen minutes when my eyes began to feel heavy, like I haven't slept for days. I tried to fight the urge to sleep–I needed to at least know where I was being driven off to, but the more I fought to keep my eyes open the heavier they became. The violent screeching sound of tires jolted me awake. My heart nearly jumped out of my throat as our car veered off the road, and crashed into the woods. Pain exploded in my skull, as my head slammed against the dashboard. “Shift, we are being ambushed.” “W–what?” My heart skipped several beats. We're being ambushed? By who? I looked around but didn't see anyone–or anything. “Shift,” he stated firmly, and stepped out of the car. “Unless you want to die.” Die? The words seemed to clear my vision and senses as I saw seven hefty looking men emerge from the woods. Panic surged through me at their imposing form. “We're here for the lady,” one of the bulky men said, as I stepped out of the car. “Me?” The words left my lips before I could even blink, and this time around I feared my heart would jump out my throat. Was Lilian not satisfied with kicking me out of her brother's life that she has to send people over to kill me? Oh goddess! Please don't let him hand me over to them. “Hand her over, and we ‘might’ not hurt you,” another added Dread washed over me in different waves at their words. I looked over at the masked man, is expression unreadable. A cold sweat broke out my forehead. Dead. I was good as dead. This is definitely the end of the road for me. Back at the dungeon I thought I was ready to embrace the afterlife, but being face to face with death is on a whole different level than actually wishing for it. “Did you hear a word I just said?” The masked man hissed harshly, his eyes not leaving the men as they made their way towards us. “I–I c-can’t shift,” I stuttered, my voice barely above a whisper, tears streaming down my cheeks as the reality of my predicament dawned on me. “Skies above,” he stared at me in disbelief. “You're wolfless?” Before I could respond one of the men lunged at the masked man, shifting mid air. “Oh goddess!” I choked out, every ounce of air in my lungs getting stucked in my throat. My mind couldn't process what I was seeing for a moment, then it hit me. A werebear! I'd heard stories of them–terrifying beast from the north–but I'd never seen one. That explains while the men looked so huge, and the size of them in their beast form was–was beyond frightening. Bam! Without breaking a sweat the masked man sent the werebear flying into a tree with a single punch. My jaw dropped, for a moment I couldn't blink, every fiber in me screaming for me to take to my heels. This was my opportunity to be free, from the masked man and from the werebears. But my feet stayed rooted to the ground, dread washing over me with every single breath. I didn't know which was more terrifying, being captured by the werebear–for goddess knows what reason, or being taken away by this terribly frightening masked man. I was still trying to decide what to do when I felt a cold hand grabbed me from behind. “Gotcha!”Amalthea's POV THREE MONTHS LATER"I would have definitely preferred she was dead and couldn't come anywhere near you but you are right, this is probably more torment for her than anything else." Nic commented and I hummed in agreement even though I was only half listening to him.The council had finally decided a while back to strip Mikayla of her Lycan and make her nothing more than a mere human with no power. The seer had more than willingly aided in separating Mikayla's Lycan from her and the council had gone further to demote her to the lowest position, making her a slave in the pack house specifically for the werebears who were now a part of our pack."Mikayla was always proud. It would kill her to watch and enjoy everything she tried to take away from me everyday and still have to serve a species you considered lower than you." I muttered without turning to Nic."You've been staring out that window for the past ten minutes, what could possibly be so intriguing?" Nic asked as h
Nicholson's POV "Here, footmarks." Callum pointed out and I hummed in agreement as we continued on our way. I could feel we were getting closer to Thea and I couldn't help the nagging bad feeling which spread within me."Are you both really going to keep ignoring each other?" Jade broke the silence between us but Call and I remained silent. I had nothing to tell him at the moment and one of the only reasons I had brought him, aside from showing him who his mate really was, was to get him to help me track Thea as he was one of the best trackers in the pack."You both know this is ridiculous right?" Jade asked."Shhhh, the last thing we want is to alert Renee we are onto her." I whispered and I could feel Callum's gaze burning the side of my face but he remained silent. From where we were now I could see a soft glow which was mostly coming from a fire and I sighed as everything within me told me it was Thea, Thea was there.I hastened my steps just as a piercing scream echoed into the
Nicholson POV "Are you sure you want to continue with this?" The seer asked me as she stared at me with her lips turned downwards."It's too late to turn back now, Callum has challenged me and if I didn't set him back in his place others would soon follow suit." I explained and I could see she understood where I was coming from but we still seemed uncomfortable with him."Are you going to fight to the death?" She asked as it was usually common to kill your opponent when fighting for the alpha position."No, of course not. I'm not going to kill Callum and there is no way I'm letting him kill me, I just want to teach him a lesson." I explained and I noticed her shoulders slack in relief."Still, take it easy on him." She stared at me pointedly just as the bell rang signifying it was time for the match.I walked past the seer and stood a few inches away from Callum who was glaring at me."Are you sure you want to make this call? There is still time to back out, don't let your pride get
Amalthea's POV I could hear the uproar of voices coming from the council room and everything in me itched to go down there but I restrained myself. Nic had probably told them all Mikayla had done and they were simply curious. I had to know what they decided on though, it directly concerned me and I should be a part of that decision. With that thought in mind, I rose and walked to my door. The door burst open before I reached it and I took a hesitant step back as Renee stood in the doorway looking around frantically."What's going on?" I inquired slowly."Callum challenged Nic for the alpha position," she revealed and my eyes bulged."What?" I asked as I brushed past her and walked down the hall."Where are they?" I asked without stopping and when Renee didn't answer I turned to her and gasped as she stabbed me with a needle right at my neck.I groaned in pain as I crumbled to the floor in an undignified heap and I was conscious but I couldn't move a single muscle in my body."What th
Nicholson's POV "Luna should be in confinement until she has given birth to the next heir of this pack." One of the council members announced and I stared at them from my throne."Thea is restless and she will never agree to be in confinement for the next four months," I pointed out to them as calmly as possible."You are her alpha, it is your duty to make her comply." Another said and I growled."She is my mate and I do not control her." I countered and I was glad Thea wasn't here to hear what was being said as I knew she would be boiling with rage by now."This is not why I asked to see you all," I announced before they could bring up any more silly suggestions."Mikayla confessed to my wife she was behind various attempts on my mate's life as well as framing her for treason in order to get her kicked out of the pack." I announced and I could see the shock reflected on their faces."Alpha, you promised to stay out of Mikayla's cas-" the eldest council member began."Wrong, I promis
Callum's POV My wolf growled within me as I recalled Thea's words, how could she doubt Renee after everything Renee had done specifically to prove that she was on our side?I barged into our room and I stopped in my tracks when I noticed Renee in the middle of our bed, sobbing."Renee?" I called out to her as I cautiously approached the bed. She slowly pushed off the bed and stared at me with red eyes."I didn't hear you come in," she sniffled as she wiped her face. My heart physically hurt as I stared at my mate's blotched face and anger rose within me."How could you Call? You knew and you didn't say a word to me." She stared at me with betrayal and hurt in her eyes and my brows furrowed."What are you talking about?" I inquired."Don't play games with me Call," she gritted out as she rose from the bed."Renee, I have no idea what you are talking about, who hurt you?" I asked softly as I tried to pace my hands on her shoulders but she moved away from me."Don't you dare touch me C
