Chapter 52

She was wearing a long dress, the purest white. Her eyes were blue, so different from mine, yet her brown hair, her lips and her nose were the same as mine.

I couldn’t help running straight into her arms, crying.

I was in front of my mother. Something that I always wanted and never believed was possible. Her body felt warm, full of life. I enjoyed the warmth of her and the smell of her. Her arms surrounded my body as if they wanted to keep me safe.

The people were right. There were no better hugs than Mom’s.

“My sweet girl,” she greeted me with a big smile.

She was warm, contrary to what I expected. I could even hear the soft beat of her heart in her chest. She looked so … alive. She was not a ghost, nor a locked memory. It was like having my mother in the flesh.

“How?” I murmured.

“Eleanor is an excellent witch,” Liam explained. “She hid much of her magic here, in this house. We brought her back to life for a few minutes, but it won’t be long, I’m sorry.”
