It was a bad idea stepping out of the house, I knew it was, and we had to run into Kenny of all people, the most obnoxious person I know. My head feels light, everything feels too much and all at once.

“Kenny was it?” Regina says to him, reminding me of her presence. We had been having such a perfect day too, but of course, that too was ruined, not because my sister put a curse on me, but because nothing ever works for me.

“Yeah, Kenny Benson, you are?” he says with a smug smile, the same smile he used years ago on my sister, the same one she reacted so violently to, like his smile was physically repulsive. Shockingly, Regina gave an identical reaction.

Kenny’s smile drops.

“Regian Vega. You knew Elora, so you must have known the Moore siblings for a long time.”

Kenny’s smug smile returns, his tongue running over his teeth, now I feel replused. And the need to leave this conversation and this place as fast as I can.
