HE PLAYS

“I haven’t had lemon salmon rice before.” I say from his sofa, dressed in one of his shirts he made me wear the second we stepped into his apartment, even when I argued my clothes already dried on me.

It was an obvious gimmick, my refusal I mean, obviously I wanted to be in his clothes.

“Really?” he asks from the kitchen.

I raise the comic I picked up earlier, stretching my hands out entirely, my eyes go over the colorless pages full of cartoon drawings and the texts next to them, still unsure what he likes about them.

“Yeah, back at home mom never really cooked for us, too busy searching for the meaning of life, the cooks dad had always made things he liked, and it was either potatoes or some dish that involved potatoes.” I say without taking my eyes off the comic, the title was what drew me to it My cat hates you.

“Searching for the meaning of life? She didn’t find it with six children?”

I can’t tell which is funnier, the dry way he asked the question or the question itself, it d

  • Lust next door    SHE LOOKS AT ME

“Right now they should eat.” I whisper. She rolls her eyes and finally takes a bite of her food, I watch her eyes widen, she looks down at the plate and then back up at me, repeats the process whilst pointing at her food. “This is insane, absolutely incredible. Fuck, you are such a good cook! I would kiss you if you weren’t such a prude.” “I am not a prude.” I tell her right before taking a bite, following her lead, and it is good, better than I expected. It’s been a while since I made this, and I wasn’t sure about it, yet I wanted to make it for her. “Right, and my name is not Regina.” she says with another eye roll, taking even more bites of food. I like cooking for her, watching her hum and nod every time she ate like I did more than cook, like I was something special. “If your name wasn’t Regina, what would you choose?”She raises a brow, struggling with her hair, and I get up from my seat, finding one of the many elastic bands I bought to hold my paint brushes, standing behin

  • Lust next door    SHE SMILES

I want to be anywhere but here.It was a bad idea stepping out of the house, I knew it was, and we had to run into Kenny of all people, the most obnoxious person I know. My head feels light, everything feels too much and all at once. “Kenny was it?” Regina says to him, reminding me of her presence. We had been having such a perfect day too, but of course, that too was ruined, not because my sister put a curse on me, but because nothing ever works for me. “Yeah, Kenny Benson, you are?” he says with a smug smile, the same smile he used years ago on my sister, the same one she reacted so violently to, like his smile was physically repulsive. Shockingly, Regina gave an identical reaction. Kenny’s smile drops.“Regian Vega. You knew Elora, so you must have known the Moore siblings for a long time.”Kenny’s smug smile returns, his tongue running over his teeth, now I feel replused. And the need to leave this conversation and this place as fast as I can. “Since high school, Elora since o

  • Lust next door    HIS SISTER

“You never answered my question, and no, I didn’t forget, wouldn’t dare.” I turn to face him, standing beside the car as he packed everything away.He busies himself so he wouldn’t have to answer me, so he definitely knows what I am talking about then. I carry on, “So, do you want to fuck me or not.”He slams the trunk harder than intended, he jumps, I don’t, meeting his eye, and daring him to ignore me again or change the topic like he did the first time I asked. He had reddened as soon as the question left my lips, taking a huge bite from his sandwich so he didn’t have to answer, I understood him, the question did seemingly come out of nowhere for him. For me, it was all I thought about. So while he nibbled on his sandwich, I waited with baited breath. He changed the topic instead. “Do you believe in horoscopes?”It was my turn to be caught off guard, my right brow raised itself so far up my hair line, and usually I wouldn’t answer that question, it’s not flirty, serves no purp

  • Lust next door    HER CONFESSION

Her confession is so unexpected I turn to her in shock, but she is shielding her eyes, using her fingers as a make shift shade, looking around us as the water swishes around us like it was begging for attention. “Are you going to teach me to swim or not?” she laughs, like she didn’t drop a bombshell on me. Maybe normal people did that with their friends, I wouldn’t know anything about that so I try the best I can, and putting it out of my mind, I focus on teaching her instead, starting with the basics, at last the basics I know. “Oh damn!!” she cusses as she struggles with the water,“You have to relax, fighting the water like that isn’t swimming.” I tell her, trying to hold her flailing arms so she doesn’t drown in the shallow water. She rubs her face with her wet arm, swiping the water off her face, I can’t help but find it cute and funny all at once. Then she winces, “Ou, ou, ou, it stings.”I hold her hands away from her face, her eyes are scrunched shut, her face moving to ru

  • Lust next door    HE JUST WON

The kiss is short and sweet. A thousand butterfly wings flutter at the base of my stomach, as if trying to get out through my skin. I like the feeling, another new thing I am excited to feel with him. “That doesn’t always happen with friends.” I say when he starts driving, feeling almost giggly in my seat. My feet stretched out in front of me, inside my sandals, they tap on the floor mat. I have never been a passenger in my own car before. I think I like it.“It doesn’t?”I make a sound agreeing with him, that’s all I am giving him, not pushing it, not because I don’t want more, but because I want him to be comfortable enough to make the first step all on his own. I can’t wait to tell Lara about this! “Friends share music too.” I tell him, encouraging him to use the aux cord, trying to learn something else about him.He looks over at me, then flicking his eyes back to the road, he is very concentrated, arms straight as he drove, he looks so hot driving, I am almost tempted to make
