*Greenwood — Outer Gardens, Afternoon*

Crystal liked the garden behind the council hall because it was quiet.

Ethan walked beside her, his shoulders tense beneath the pale linen shirt he had pulled on after training. His wolf still prowled beneath his skin, she could feel it but it wasn’t restless energy that made him silent.

It seemed something was weighing him down.

Crystal slowed, waiting until he matched her pace. “You’ve been quiet since the council,” she said softly.

Ethan’s jaw ticked. “I don’t have much to say.”

“That has never stopped you before,” she teased gently, trying to get a smile on his face. When none came, her expression softened. “What’s wrong, Ethan?”

He hesitated. Then, with a sharp exhale, he dropped onto the stone bench beneath the roses.

Crystal followed, watching his hands clench on his knees. For a long moment he didn’t speak, and when he finally did, his voice was rough.

“I failed you.”

The words hit her chest like a stone. She blinked, stunned.

*Greenwood — Guest Quarters, Midnight*It was already nighttime. Everyone had retired for the night making Greenwood silent. The stillness was broken only by the distant cry of an owl.Inside, Crystal’s body was restless.Aelira stirred violently beneath her skin, clawing at her dreams until they changed into visions. One moment she was curled beneath Ryder’s arm, his warmth anchoring her to the present. The next, she was pulled into fire and smoke, a world half made of memory and half made of something that didn’t belong to her alone.Aelira’s voice rose, sharp and clear in her mind. Come, Flame.Crystal turned, and she was no longer in Greenwood. She stood in a wide clearing, though the earth was blackened and scorched, trees burned to husks. The air smelled of smoke. Her bare feet crunched over cracked stone, glowing faintly with veins of fire

  • Lycan's Mate    Chapter 70

*Silver Fang Stronghold — War Room, Night* The war room was built of black stone, lit only by braziers. A long oak table, scarred and darkened by centuries, stretched across the chamber. Maps of the wolf lands covered it, their edges curled and stiff with age, claw marks slashed through borders where wars had once raged. Greenwood’s crest was circled in blood-red ink, Ryder’s Starblood territory carved with deep gouges from the Alpha’s own claws. The Alpha of Silver Fang stood over it, broad-shouldered, his dark hair tied back, golden eyes glinting. His presence filled the chamber like a predator fills a den. “Too long,” he muttered, dragging one claw across the parchment map until it tore. His gaze fixed on Greenwood’s borders, his upper lip curling. “The High Alpha thinks silence is submission. That our stillness means defeat.” His Beta stood a step behind, lean where the Alpha was built of iron, his movements sharper, quicker, like a wolf made to move unseen through shadow

*Greenwood — The Moonlit Clearing*Tonight was the Festival of the Moon — a night older than kingdoms, older than dynasties. A night when wolves set aside war and duty, gathering to honor the bond between the packs and the moon that watched over them all.Crystal stood at the side of the clearing, her heart racing as she took it all in. Lanterns carved from crystal bark hung in the branches, glowing with captured moonlight. Long tables overflowed with roasted meat, fresh bread, and honeyed fruit. Wolves wore woven garlands of ivy and silver thread, their laughter filled the night.Once again, Greenwood was filled with joy. Pups darted between legs, warriors clasped each other’s shoulders in greeting, and songs rose toward the stars. And yet, as Crystal stepped forward, she felt dozens of eyes shift toward her.The Flame. Ryder’s mate. The prophecy come to life.Once, their stares woul

*Starblood pack — Dungeon, Midnight*The dungeon had never been this silent. Even when wolves slept in their cells, chains groaned with restless movements, and water dripped in a rhythm that could drive a weaker mind to madness.Lesley had grown used to it. She had learned to pace her fury to the rhythm of dripping water. She sat on the edge of her cot, chains biting into her wrists, her dark hair matted against her cheek. Her sharp eyes were fixed on the shadows at the far end of the corridor.Footsteps.Not the heavy boots of guards. No. This was different. She held her breath, her wolf stirring in warning, but Lesley ignored it. Hope and suspicion burned in equal measure in her chest. Wolves did not come here at night without reason. And reason, in the dungeon, often meant opportunity.A cloaked figure appeared, carrying nothing but a small bundle wrapped in rough cloth. The torchlight barely showed the stranger’s face, but Lesley caught the flash of a mark on the wrist… silver

*Greenwood — The Great Hall, Evening*The Greenwood great hall was filled with warmth. Long tables stretched across the room, on it were roasted venison, loaves of bread, steaming stews thick with herbs, and bowls of berries picked fresh from the forest. For once, there was no talk of war. No maps spread across tables. No messengers panting at the door. Just the sound of laughter, of mugs clinking, of wolves sharing food and forgetting, if only for a night, how fragile peace could be.Crystal sat between Ryder and Luca. Her fingers curled loosely around a cup of spiced wine, the warmth seeping into her skin. Across from her, Ethan leaned in close to Alia, the tension that had haunted his shoulders lately seemed to have ease, if only slightly. Thalia laughed at something Luca muttered under his breath, swatting his arm playfully. The sight made Crystal’s chest ache in the best way. For years, she had watched from the sidelines of pack life, too powerless to belong. Now here she w

  • Lycan's Mate    Chapter 66

*Greenwood — Training Grounds, Afternoon* Warriors sparred in pairs, their movements swift and brutal, the rhythm of their strikes echoed. Luca moved among them, sword in hand, but his focus was fractured. His wolf paced beneath his skin, restless, claws scraping, teeth bared. Mark her. The command rippled through him, primal and undeniable. His jaw clenched. Every time Thalia moved within his sight, the pressure spiked, hot and feral, until it was all he could do not to cross the distance and sink his teeth into her skin, claiming what was his. Across the ring, Thalia spun her spear, the weapon gleaming as she knocked her opponent flat on his back. The warriors watching let out a cheer, some laughing, others groaning in sympathy for the unlucky wolf. Thalia only smirked, tossing her braid over her shoulder as she extended a hand to help her sparring partner rise. Pride burned through Luca at the sight of her… strong, unyielding, every inch the warrior fate had destined
