Harbinger POV

The darkness welcomed him like an old friend.

It moved when he moved. Breathed when he breathed. Twined around his shoulders like a living mantle as he drifted through the ruins of the old forest temple, the shattered remnants of gods long forgotten crushed beneath his feet.

Kane sat in the center of the stone circle, head bowed, sweat beading at his brow despite the cold. He hadn’t moved in hours.

Still resisting.

The Harbinger tilted his head, amused. He circled the boy slowly,

Nyxar POVThe world could wait. At least, that was what he told himself.Outside, Dragon Court was beginning to wake. He could hear it now. The distant clang of a gate opening. Boots against stone. A dragon’s low, rumbling call echoing somewhere across the cliffs. Servants beginning another day in a fortress that had survived centuries of war.Life moved forward. As though the world had not nearly unraveled only hours ago.His thumb unconsciously traced the back of Lyra’s hand. She stirred slightly. Not enough to wake. Only enough to tighten her fingers around his.His wolf gave a smug, satisfied rumble."She doesn’t want you to leave."Nyxar smiled without meaning to.“Don’t become arrogant.”"I’m not."The beast sounded almost offended."I’m observant."“You’ve mistaken one for the other before.”"Not this time."Silence settled between them again. The strange thing about speaking with his wolf was that it had never truly felt like talking to another being. It was himself. Only... s

  • Lyra, His Second Chance Mate   Chapter 57: The Quiet Pain

Nyxar POVSleep never truly claimed him. It came in restless fragments, light enough that every unfamiliar sound tugged at his instincts. Maybe chair wasn't the best choice. The fortress around him was silent.Stone held the last warmth of the dying hearth, while moonlight spilled through the tall windows in silver ribbons. Outside, somewhere beyond the towering walls of Dragon Court, the wind whispered through ancient pines. It carried the scent of rain and distant ash from the restless volcanoes that scarred the northern mountains.Nyxar opened his eyes. For one confused heartbeat, he wondered why he wasn’t in his own chamber. Then memory returned. Lyra. The nightmare. The scream that had ripped through the fortress. The way she’d collapsed into his arms without hesitation. This tightened something painfully tender inside his chest. He remained perfectly still. The bench beneath him wasn’t particularly comfortable, but he barely noticed. His gaze drifted across the room toward the l

  • Lyra, His Second Chance Mate   Chapter 56 :The One Without A Name

The Nameless God’s POVHe woke alone. Again. The dream was gone. The girl was gone. The silver lake. The moonlit sky. Her voice... All of it had vanished. Only the prison remained. Endless. Silent. Ancient. For a long moment he did not move.He sat upon the black stone throne at the center of a realm that should not exist. Darkness stretched forever in every direction. No stars. No wind. No sky. No sun. Only shadows. An entire world built from absence. Most prisons were designed to hold bodies. This one had been built to hold a god. A cruel difference. Because bodies eventually stopped feeling pain. Stop existing. He is not.He slowly rose. The movement sent ripples through the darkness.Mountains shifted, far away, entire horizons bent around his will. Not consciously, the realm simply obeyed him, like always. It was one of the few things left to him.Power rolled beneath his skin. Enough power to split continents. Enough power to extinguish suns. Enough power to challenge gods. And

  • Lyra, His Second Chance Mate   Chapter 55: Stay

Lyra POVThe conversation had left something heavy hanging in the air. The Forgotten God. The Impossible Child. Ancient horrors imprisoned beyond reality. It was enough to make even immortals tired.Ekreth drained the last of his wine and set the cup aside. The faint sound echoed through the chamber.“I think we’ve frightened ourselves sufficiently for one night.”Nyxar snorted. Lyra rolled her eyes. The dragon’s mouth twitched. Then his expression softened. Unexpectedly.“We have time.”The words were directed at both of them. But somehow Lyra suspected he meant more than the prophecy. More than the war. More than the end of the world. His ancient gaze moved between them. Far too knowingly. Far too intelligently. Gods, she hated dragons. Especially old ones.Ekreth stood. His wings shimmered briefly, like he needed to stretch them, before disappearing again.“Try to get some rest.” His voice became firm. Practical. The voice of a commander. “Both of you.”Nyxar immediately opened his

  • Lyra, His Second Chance Mate   Chapter 54: The Forgotten

Lyra POVNobody touched the wine. The words lingered in the chamber like smoke.I know who he might become.Ekreth stood near the hearth, one hand wrapped around the untouched cup. The flames painted gold across his features, but for the first time since Lyra had met him, the ancient dragon looked uncertain. That frightened her more than anything. Because Ekreth was never uncertain. Yet now he seemed to be choosing every word with painful care.Lyra sat on the edge of the bed, pulling a blanket around her shoulders. The nightmare still clung to her skin. She could still see that eye opening beyond reality. Still hear the roar. Still feel the terror that had rolled through the dream. And worse - she could still see the golden-eyed stranger standing in front of Vaeleth.Protecting her. As though it were the most natural thing in the world. That might be their chance.Nyxar had settled beside the hearth now. Far enough away that nobody would comment on how close he’d been holding her mom

  • Lyra, His Second Chance Mate   Chapter 53: Late Night Talk

Nyxar POVAnother knock rattled the chamber door. Harder this time. Far less patient.“Lyra? Nyxar?” Ekreth called them. The dragon sounded calm. Too calm. Which somehow made Nyxar trust the situation even less. For a long moment neither he nor Lyra moved. Her forehead still rested against his. His hand still cupped her cheek. The distance between them was measured in breaths. The kiss that almost happened lingered in the air like a living thing.Waiting.Neither seemed willing to be the first to step away. Then reality finally won. Barely. Lyra released a slow breath and leaned back first. Her silver eyes remained fixed on his. Something vulnerable still lingered there. Something she rarely allowed anyone to see. Something Nyxar suspected she’d regret showing once the night ended. His chest tightened. Because he already knew he would remember it forever.Another knock.“Should I assume you’re both alive?” Ekreth called.Lyra actually snorted. The sound startled both of them. Then a
