Ekreth POV

The mountains never slept, and neither did he.

Long after Lyra and Nyxar had vanished into the hush of the campfires, Ekreth stood beneath the crooked bones of a lightning-blasted tree near the old borderstones, eyes fixed on the sky.

The stars looked different here. Lower. Closer. Hung like spears instead of diamonds.

He felt her before he heard her. A shift in the air. A scent like cracked obsidian and old fire.

“You always did favor dramatic entrances,” he said without turning.

“I learned from the best,” came the reply - dry as stone, threaded with heat.

Ekreth turned slowly.

Maeraxa, First of the Ashen Coil, descended from the shadows between the peaks like she’d never left them. Her wings shimmered faintly behind her humanoid form - not fully hidden, not fully revealed. She moved like smoke - beautiful, deadly, old.

“You shouldn’t be here,” he said.

“Neither should you.”

They stood facing each other, a breath apart, a history unspoken between them.

  • Lyra, His Second Chance Mate   Chapter 28 : Fire in the Blood

Lyra POVThe embers of their fire had long gone cold. The sky above their camp was a velvet sweep of stars, scattered in pale ribbons across the deep, ancient dark. The others slept nearby - warriors, scouts, loyal few who had followed them past the edge of the known world. They stood like that a moment - her watching him, Nyxar silent but alert at her side. Then Lyra stepped forward.“We saw her,” she said.Ekreth’s gaze lifted, eyes catching the moonlight.“The Moon Goddess,” Lyra went on. “She came to us. Together. In a dream or something more. She showed us a child. A girl. One like us.” Her voice softened, and the truth settled between her ribs like a sharp edge. “One like you.”He didn’t flinch. But his eyes darkened, and something in his stillness cracked - just a little.“She had silver hair,” Nyxar added, voice lower now, almost reverent. “And power. Ancient. Raw. The kind that doesn’t bend. The kind that answers godspawn… or commands them.”For a long moment, Ekreth said not

  • Lyra, His Second Chance Mate   Chapter 27 : Dreams Forged in Flame and Moonlight

Nyxar POVHe awoke in fire. Not pain. Not heat. But memory - flame wrapping around him like silk, gold and violet and white-hot at the edges. The Trial was over, his body healed, but the magic hadn't left. It had only sunk deeper.Nyxar stood in a place that wasn’t place. A horizon of ash and glass, where stars fell in slow spirals and the sky bled moonlight and flame. He looked down - the ground cracked beneath his bare feet, glowing with old runes. The same spiral Ekreth had once been chained beneath the castle.A whisper brushed the air. "You were never meant to sleep quietly."He turned. Nothing was behind him. Footsteps.Lyra stepped from the mist. Her hair was loose, eyes wide, a silver light clinging to her skin like dew. She looked as stunned as he felt.“Nyxar?” Her voice cracked. “Where are we?”He crossed to her instinctively, reaching out to steady her. Their fingers met. He felt her warmth. The dream had chosen both of them.“I don’t know,” he whispered. “But it’s real.

  • Lyra, His Second Chance Mate   Chapter 25 : The Fire Between

Lyra POVThe crimson sky still bled above the canyon when Ekreth guided them away from the Court.“They have seen enough for now,” he said. “You will have your answer in time. But tonight... go. Rest.”No protest. No threat. But something in his voice left no room for argument. Lyra wasn’t sure if it was kindness or a warning. The shimmer of the veil was easier the second time. Less jarring. But still - stepping through it was like passing from myth to reality, from fevered legend to the ragged edge of the world they knew. When they emerged back into the mountain path where their company waited, dusk was already settling over the peaks.Rough-hewn tents ringed the camp. The smell of smoke and pine welcomed her like a memory. Elira and soldiers lifted their heads at their return, eyes wide. One of them whispered a prayer. No words were needed. They’d seen the change in Nyxar and his clothes destroyed by fire.He didn’t speak, either. Just went straight to his tent. No one spoke. Not u

  • Lyra, His Second Chance Mate   Chapter 24 : The Flame Court

Lyra POVThey followed Ekreth deeper into the mountain - not by road or trail, but through a veil of shimmering air that cracked like lightning as they passed. Magic here was old, unfiltered. It hummed in Lyra’s bones, sharpening every breath, every heartbeat.Beyond the veil, the world changed. They emerged into a vast canyon carved of black glass and obsidian, stretching beneath an endless crimson sky. Pillars of smoke coiled into the air, and in the distance, winged shapes circled above jagged peaks. The dragon realm - not just a place, but a plane apart, untouched by time. And watching them from the ledges, perched like gods of fire and stone, were the Others.Dragons.More than she expected. Some as massive as towers. Others coiled in humanoid form, draped in robes that shimmered like magma or bone. But all of them shared one thing: eyes that burned with ancient memory - and judgment.Lyra's throat tightened.Ekreth stepped forward, wings half-unfurled. “They are under truce,” he

  • Lyra, His Second Chance Mate   Chapter 23 : The Wells of Fire and Memory

Nyxar POVThe dragon led them through the ruins in silence, its scales catching the light like river glass. Nyxar followed, every step echoing on stone older than any kingdom still standing. The path narrowed, flanked by spires etched with glowing glyphs. The air pulsed around them - charged, electric. Not just magic… memory. The place remembered them, or those who came before. His skin prickled with it.He glanced at Lyra. She walked tall beside him, though her hand occasionally trembled near her blade. Her eyes, fierce and haunted, stayed on the dragon ahead. They descended a winding staircase cut directly into the mountainside. The deeper they went, the more the light shifted - golden at first, then gradually tinged with crimson and cobalt. At the base of the spiral, the path opened into a vast cavern.Nyxar stopped cold. The Well wasn’t water. It was fire - suspended, weightless, and moving like liquid through air. Rivers of molten light coiled and twisted through the space withou
