“No, don’t cut it” I tell the attendant behind me when she brings a tiny scissors close to my hair.

“I know, you said that the last time. I just want to trim an uneven strand” the smiley salon attendant explains.

       Relived, I nod. Say what you will, but even a decade later, I haven’t been able to allow my hair get cut other than the occasional trim when I’m getting a hair treatment so it doesn’t get too long.

I guess my father thought me a lesson that stuck.
