Bianca stepped out of the hospital into the garage, heart heavy, tears pouring out. A hand clasped tightly over her lips as she tried to muffle the sounds, but they slipped out anyway and bounced in small echoes through the atmosphere.

Most of the men were there, no one daring to look at the hurt and humiliated princess.

She glanced at her phone and saw a text from Roman. He said he’d come pick her up. Good. That was what she needed—away from her family’s rot.

A sleek Porsche drove in a moment later. She didn’t need a soothsayer to tell her it was Roman.

She quietly slipped into the car, and it pulled out of the garage.

The car was quiet. Calm. The air was sweet with Mint and some male spice.

Roman’s eyes focused on the road ahead, grip tight on the steering wheel as his ringed fingers tapped against it, his hair messy like someone who just rolled out of bed.

“Should I turn on the music?” he broke the silence.

“No,” she replied, gaze heavy on her twisted fingers.

The next few days passed in a blur of surgeries, and blood-soaked silence. A week had passed now. Lot’s off heavy emotions had gone through Louisa. The hospital forced therapy down her throat while constantly dismissing her from seeing Alessandro because the De Lucas had given them those orders not to let her specifically, in. She had rolled her father home in a wheelchair alongside Lilian the day before yesterday. The man had been livid, burnt out, and holding simmering resentment towards the De Lucas.Today was the fifth time in three days she’d shown up outside Alessandro’s ICU ward. The old don was always there each time. Two hefty men obstructed the door as he scowled in her face. “I don't think you should still be coming back here.”Her heart twisted. Words failed her as she fought back tears. “I'm not trying to get back with him…”“Move on, Louisa.” The old Don cut her off, his cane slamming the floor as tho he’d just passed a judgment. Her lips parted to speak but he sh

By the time Louisa was up the next day, most of the chaos had long died down. Only an unsettling kind of calm filled the atmosphere. She woke up with sunken eyes and a throat that burned from hours of being dry. Next to her, voices hushed lowly, and when she tilted her neck in their direction, she saw a doctor and then her sister—in a disheveled state. “It’s an acute stress reaction. Hopefully it doesn’t go into PTSD.” She heard. A tear rolled down her cheek and when she tried to quietly sit up, the bed creaked beneath her. “Louisa?” Lilian spun back to her bedside, face hovering above hers with worry heavy on it. She didn’t reply at first. Even when Lilian helped her sit up fully, she moped into space. “Miss Delaney, how do you feel?” the doctor chimed in, voice light and cheery. Louisa cast a dead glance at the woman. “Read the room, doctor,” she snapped in a low voice, the impact of her words cutting. “How can you smile at me like that when my world is falling apart?” Her b

‘SURGERY IN PROGRESS’The red light burned above the operating theatre as soon as the doors closed on Alessandro being transferred onto the surgical table, and the operating indication lights flashed on in silver hues.Eric staggered into the dark hallway, vision distorted and tunneled. His blood pressure dropped, and his dark countenance paled. A few medical team swarmed around him and, despite his opposition, they numbed him with IV analgesia and mild sedation. The hospital was in a total shutdown to outsiders. Injured men swarmed the ER along with nurses tending to their injuries. Pain shot through the atmosphere, loud groans filled the rooms, and different varieties of bloodied ammunition were pulled out of flesh and hit surgical plates.A few hours later, Alaric sat in the private ER ward, jaw locked tight to suppress the painful groan clogging his chest. The doctor made a short incision on his biceps and pulled the tiny metal free with forceps—dark red blood flowed and soaked th

Louisa’s world reduced to background echoes and noises, with a sharp ring drumming against her skull. Her breath snagged. The panicked voices drowned out behind her. In that moment, the only thing that mattered was the man heavily drooping against her body, his hands still protectively tight around her.Her breath came in short gasps, chest rising and falling in heavy tempo. Shock paralysis carved deeply into her bones until she felt every bit of her go stiff.“Alessandro…” she whispered lowly. The smell of his sweat and blood twisted her belly with dread—a bitter reminder of the damage she caused.Color drained off her face as she felt his erratic heartbeat turn shallow—rapid thump now beating faintly. Her world tilted just as Alessandro slid down her body to his knees. His hand clutched tightly on the sides of her waist, and when his gaze met hers, she saw something flicker off from it. Only emptiness and pain of a man still forcing himself to hold on consumed her.“No. No.” Her voi

A low grunt awoke Louisa as her head jerked slowly from a deep slumber. She mumbled against the duct tape strapped on her lips, her breath cutting in short rasps. When her eyes snapped open, they met darkness at first, with her head dropped against the car’s glass. She pushed herself up and stared hazily at the tinted glass to see her sweat dripping down. She was drenched in it. With her hands still bound tightly to her back. At this point, her limbs threatened to fall off.The thick heat in the confined space of the car, with no means of ventilation, threatened to cut off oxygen from her lungs.Until she heard heavy thuds of boots outside, and then the windscreen being punched in.Her eyes snapped to her side, shoulders sagging with subtle relief when she saw Seth slamming a rifle’s barrel into the windscreen. A minute later, the glass smashed open and his arm looped in, fingers finding the car’s lock and opening it.A wave of cold wind washed through her heat-drenched body, drawing
