Sophie’s POV

The second safe house was located deeper in the mountains. It was an old hunting lodge hidden behind thick pines and a rushing river. We arrived just before noon, exhausted and bloodied, but still alive.

Marcus and the others set up perimeter watches while I helped Damon inside. He was limping badly, silver burns still raw on his wrists and torso. Lucas had finally fallen into a deep sleep in my arms after the close escape.

“Lay him down first,” Damon said hoarsely, nodding toward

Sophie’s POVThe collision between Damon and the Devourer’s manifestation lit up the entire forest like there was a second sun. I shielded Lucas with my body as the shockwave knocked me backward into a tree. Pain exploded across my back, but I forced myself to stay on my feet. Through the bond, I felt Damon’s anger mixed with his determination burning like a wildfire.Stay back! he sent urgently. Protect Lucas! But I couldn’t just watch. Not when the love of my life was facing something ancient and monstrous alone.I pushed golden energy into my legs and ran forward, Lucas secured tightly against my chest. The Devourer’s form towered over Damon, a swirling mass of shadows with dozens of glowing void eyes. Every time Damon struck it, pieces of darkness broke off only to reform instantly.“You cannot defeat what has no true form,” the Devourer's voice boomed, its voice echoing from everywhere at once. “The Spark belongs to the Void and your child will open the gates.”Damon tried anothe

Sophie’s POVThe mansion shook as if the mountain itself was waking up from a very long sleep. I held Lucas to my chest, his small body was trembling against me as another wave of dark energy hit the reinforced walls. The safe room’s lights went on and off, casting long shadows that seemed to twist and reach toward us.“Damon!” I called through the bond, my voice filled with fear. His reply came instantly, strong and steady. I’m coming. Hold on.I pressed my back against the cold metal wall, golden energy flaring around Lucas and me like a fragile bubble. The baby was crying now, his tiny hands glowing with that dangerous red-gold light. Every time he pulsed, the corruption outside the door seemed to recoil, but it was getting closer. I could feel it, cold and hungry.Lena crouched beside me. “Luna, the outer defenses are failing. They’re inside the building.”I swallowed hard and tried to keep my voice calm for Lucas. “It’s okay, baby. Mommy’s here. We’re going to be okay.”The door

Sophie’s POVThe silence after the battle was even worse than the fighting itself. The grand hall of the mansion looked like a war zone, and one could see shattered glasses, bloodstains on the marble floors, and broken furniture scattered everywhere. I leaned against Damon, and held Lucas tightly between us. My shoulder still burned from the corruption, but the pain was nothing compared to the fear that I felt right in my heart. “We won,” I said, but I wasn't even feeling victorious. “For now.”Damon's silver eyes scanned the room, assessing the damage and the exhausted warriors around us. “Marcus, get a full headcount. Tend to the wounded first. I want every scout out within the hour. We need to know exactly what’s coming.”Marcus nodded, blood still coming out of a wound on his forehead. “Yes, Alpha. The Devourer, it’s real. The lieutenant wasn’t lying.”Elowen approached us with tentative steps, and she looked troubled. “The Hollow Court was just the beginning. The Devourer is an

Sophie’s POVThe corrupted wolf disappeared inside the mansion before I could stop it. I was so terrified that I felt it in my veins like ice. “Lucas!” I screamed, already running. I sprinted through the front doors. The corridors blurred past. I could hear fighting behind me, Damon roaring as he tore through the creatures trying to follow. But all I could think about was my son.I reached the stairs leading to the reinforced bunker and nearly collided with two of our guards. They were slumped against the wall, eyes black and twitching.“Get up!” I shouted, sending a wave of golden energy to burn away whatever corruption had taken them. They gasped back to consciousness just as the corrupted wolf burst around the corner, heading straight for the bunker door.I threw myself forward and slammed into it with everything I had. My claws sank into its side as we crashed to the floor. It was stronger than a normal wolf, wrong, twisted by the Devourer’s power. Its jaws snapped inches from my

Sophie’s POVI woke up with my heart already racing. The mansion was too quiet, the kind of silence that felt heavy with warning. Lucas slept peacefully in the crib beside our bed, his tiny chest rising and falling steadily. But even in sleep, faint golden-red sparks danced across his skin. The power inside him was growing stronger every single day.Damon wasn’t beside me. I found him on the balcony, bare chest despite the chill, staring out into the dark forest. The fresh scars from yesterday’s battle were visible on his muscular back. I stepped up behind him and wrapped my arms around his waist, pressing my cheek to his warm skin.“You didn’t sleep,” I whispered. He turned and pulled me against his chest, his large hands across my back. “How can I? The Devourer is coming. Three days, Sophie. Maybe less. And we still don’t know what it really is.”I held him tighter. The mating bond hummed between us, steady and reassuring, but fear still made my stomach churn. “We’ve beaten worse. W

Third POVThe battlefield fell into eerie silence as the last of the Hollow Court creatures dissolved into smoke. Sophie dropped to her knees, her chest heaving, golden energy showing weakly around her. The effort of the final blast had drained her completely. Her side burned where one of the shadows had injured her, and her vision was covered with exhaustion. She felt like she was was one stop away from fainting. “Sophie!” Damon’s voice cut through the haze. He shifted back to human form and reached her in seconds, pulling her close. Blood was on his face and his chest, but his silver eyes told a different story. He looked as worried as ever. "Talk to me. Are you hurt?”“I’m.. okay,” she managed, gripping his shoulder. “Lucas. Is he..”“Safe,” Damon assured her, helping her to her feet. “Marcus got word from the bunker. He’s unharmed.”Around them, the surviving warriors let out exhausted cheers. The enemy had retreated, but the victory felt short-lived. Too many good wolves lay wou
