“And you’re feeling okay?”

“I already told you I’m fine, Mark...”

“I know you rolled your eyes.” He stated annoyed “Don't do it, I just want to know how you are.”

I covered the phone with my hand and that's when I was able to laugh the way I wanted.

“My love.” I said trying to sound serious “I'm fine, the babies are fine, all we want is for you to come back soon.”

“I don't like being away from you.” He murmured in a muffled voice.

My heart clenched in my chest at the thought of him alone.

“Hopefully you can return soon.” I said in the same tone of voice.

On Monday while we were having breakfast, he had received a call.

His cook, the one who a few months ago had attempted suicide by inhaling gas directly from the stove, had died with a respiratory arrest.
