CHAPTER 23: TROUBLE FOR MELISSA

As soon as the door went shut in his face, I stood by the window, holding the curtains a bit and watched him drive away. He had a smile on his weary face and I found my lips curving into a small smile.

“You still like him, mother,” Albert startled me with his words. “You were smiling a few moments ago.”

“Stop behaving like you are an adult, you do not know what like or love is,” I shunned him, walking back to my former position.

He followed me into the kitchen, helping me with the spoon I was using to stir the food.

“Well, I do know that he is genuine about his apology. Just give him a chance, mother. At least we would have someone to call daddy. I can't count how many kids I've threatened in school just for them to shut up.”

I looked at my 7 year old son, who was going to be 8 in the next few months, in disbelief.

“You never told me about any kids bullying you,” I said, worrying hinting in my voice.

“That's because I'm capable of taking care of things when you are not there,”
