Chapter Thirty Two

Evelyn shook her head disapprovingly at Rebecca. "You could've said anything else, there was no need to make up a story about losing a baby." She grumbled quietly.

Rebecca looked at her apologetically. "I'm sorry, I didn't know what to say when I was asked"

Evelyn sighed. "I suppose I understand your intentions. But now I'll have to go around correcting everyone."

"Again, I'm sorry," Rebecca said meekly.

The head nurse interjected, "Whatever the reason was, we're just relieved to have you back safely, Dr. Evelyn. The patients have missed your excellent care."

Evelyn gave her a grateful smile. "Thank you, that means a lot. I've missed being here too. Let's get started then - I have rounds to make." She said.

As Evelyn strode down the hallway with Rebecca close behind, she overheard whispers from nurses about her supposed miscarriage. She rolled her eyes, making a mental note to clear up that ridiculous rumor as soon as possible.

"Are you still angry at me?" Rebecca asked her friend.
