Lila

I was supposed to be meeting the elders now, but plans change all the time. But I knew this had everything to do with my meeting earlier with Alpha Kai and now suddenly we were going on a short road trip. Not that I was really complaining.

It was beautiful out here, and I loved the scenery.

The soft hum of the engine was oddly calming as we drove through the winding road lined with towering pines. The sky was an overcast gray, a mirror to the heaviness that still clung to my chest since my strange encounter with Alpha Kai.

Max hadn’t said much at first just that he wanted to clear his head and take me somewhere special. I hadn’t expected the sudden getaway, but I welcomed the escape. After the tension with Kai and all the uncertainty, my nerves were fraying like old threads.

I stole a glance at Max from the passenger seat. He didn't want any of the security with us, so he was the one driving us and I loved that this was going to be just us. His hands gripped the steering wheel,

LilaThe trees grew thicker as I pressed deeper into the woods, each step muffled by the damp carpet of moss and fallen leaves beneath my feet. My breath was uneven, my throat raw from crying, but I didn’t stop.I couldn’t stop. Not when every heartbeat reminded me of what I’d done. Not when the mate bond inside me pulsed like a cruel joke. How could the Moon Goddess be so cruel? How could she tie my soul to someone who could very well be my own blood?I stumbled forward, catching myself against a crooked tree trunk. My fingers dug into the bark as I tried to steady my thoughts, but they were spinning memories of Ryan’s mouth on mine, his hands on my body, the way he whispered my name like I was something sacred. Something his.I bit my lip hard, trying to stop the flood of shame that rose in my throat. I had to find her.The witch. The one they whispered about in half truths and warnings. The one said to live beyond the river’s bend, past the crescent stone, in a crooked cottage the

LilaFor the first time in a really long time, I slept through the night. I woke to the sound of slow, rhythmic breathing. deep and steady. It was warm. Safe. And for a disorienting moment, I thought I was dreaming for a few seconds there as everything started registering in my mind. Then I felt it, his arm around me, solid and heavy across my waist. My back pressed gently into his chest, his warm breath tickling the side of my neck. Max.Everything from last night came rushing back. The mango slices. The foot rub. His quiet tenderness. And me, asking him to stay.I blinked my eyes open slowly, adjusting to the soft morning light filtering in through gauzy curtains. The air smelled like cedarwood and clean linen. His scent. The fact that he was still here, soundly sleeping was so surprising. I had for sure thought last night when I woke up he would be gone. But there he was sleeping so soundly. I turned slightly, careful not to wake him. But the moment I shifted, his arm tensed, hi

Lila The Silence Between UsI woke up to the sound of birds chirping faintly outside the window and a warmth at my back that made me smile before I even opened my eyes. Max’s arm was wrapped around my waist, his breathing slow and steady, and for the first time in what felt like forever, I felt… content.Safe. I could get used to this, waking up next to this amazingly sexy man. The memories from last night fluttered through my mind, the way he held me, kissed me, looked at me like I was more than just the human girl carrying his child. Like I mattered. His touch and I started getting goosebumps all over my body, desire building back up between my legs despite the fact that I was still so sore from the events of last night. I shifted gently, turning in his arms to face him. His eyes blinked open, those emerald green irises softening when they met mine.“Good morning Handsome,” I whispered. He let out a deep breath that sounded like peace and tucked a strand of hair behind my ear. “G

LilaI couldn’t stop fidgeting. The dress Max had picked out for me was stunning, a rich burgundy that hugged my body in all the right places and made my skin glow. My bump was still not showing which was perfect for me, the dress fit like a glove. But even that couldn’t calm the storm of anxiety brewing in my chest. My palms were clammy, my breath shallow, and my heart had been pounding for the last ten minutes.I was going to meet his dad, that was enough to send me into spiral mode. What if he didn't like me? It was definitely important for the man that raised him to like me. What happens if he doesn't? Will Max throw me out? A lot was running through my mind and it was like he could sense I was overthinking it. “You’re going to be fine,” Max said, giving my hand a reassuring squeeze as we walked down the long corridor toward the pack’s inner council chamber.“Easy for you to say. You grew up in this world. I just found out werewolves are real last week and now I am supposed to m

The Wall Begins to CrackValerie. It was almost midnight when I found myself curled up on the bed, nursing a dull ache in my back and an even sharper one in my chest. The day had been... surreal. I couldn’t believe how different Max had been since we landed. Softer. Patient. Like he was trying to peel off the hardened alpha armor, one piece at a time.I had taken a long needed bath and now all dressed up in bed ready to go to sleep, yet I was awake thinking about the handsome devil who kept on surprising me. I shifted with a small groan, placing a hand on my belly. "Little wolf," I whispered, "you’re making my body do things I didn’t sign up for." I said, a smile on my face. I had read that when you are pregnant sometimes there is a pull to the father and right now, all the feelings I was experiencing, must all be because I was carrying his child. As if on cue, there was a soft knock at the door before it opened slightly. Max stood there, shirt untucked, sleeves rolled up, looking
