Chapter 5: I Never Said Yes!

Selene's POV

I froze.

It took me some time to process everything I was hearing. "I asked to get protected. I didn't ask to be sent back into a lion's den." I spoke while trying to stay strong.

"If you are going to be my Luna, you must do this." He replied to me, and I looked up at him and cleared my throat.

"Up until now, I used to think I'm important to you. But clearly, you aren't. I apologize for coming to-"

"Don't be funny. Come here," he said, bringing me closer to him and touching my hair intimately.

"Don't touch me!" I muttered and that seemed to irk him the hell up. He pushed me back to the seat and suddenly became aggressive. "Alpha Damian, when you sent in your request to have me as yours, you made mention of the fact that you adore me and want me passionately. Is this how you treat a woman you claim to adore?"

"You mean a woman my enemy rejected. Why don't you feel helpless? Look this is for you. And it's either you do it or have to eat your father's head. There is no other way out of this Selene Nightfall! Think about this!" He spat and walked away angrily.

I stayed still trying to get over the argument that just happened. My chest tightened and just when I thought I couldn't hold in my pain anymore, I got up and walked away from the room and headed straight to the room reserved for me.

I couldn't sleep all through the night and by the time it was morning, my eye bags were getting darker. "Good morning, Selene; you don't look alright. Do you need my help?" Elaine asked me and I just shook my head.

"I think I have to agree that we made a bad decision. We shouldn't have come here." I busted in tears and in worry, she grabbed me and hugged me tight.

"You know you can always share with me." She spoke trying to dry my tears. "You look weak Selene. Trust me, I can help us out of here if you want." She suggested.

"You must be underestimating Alpha Damian then. We are stuck in here and can't leave until someone stronger than him intervenes." I told her, reminding her about who we were dealing with.

I watched her bite her lips in frustration. "Is he aggressive towards you?"

Knock! Knock!!

We looked at the door at the same time, wondering who was there. "Selene is busy-"

"It's fine! I can take visitors." I said, stopping her, and she looked at me worried. I nodded my head, assuring her and getting rid of the tears on my face. Seeing as I would be fine, she got up and rushed to open the door.

"Greetings Selene! The Alpha is ready to see you." The man from last night said.

"Don't you think it's rude to interact with us twice without introducing yourself or is Selene Nightfall a joke to you?" Elaine said to him, and I watched as he became stunned.

"Pardon my manners. I'm Beta Joe, Alpha Damian's trusted Beta." He said and then turned to stare at Elaine. "I hope that helps" he muttered as though he was mocking her.

They had this funny interaction between them that made me giggle for the first time that morning. "I will be there sooner," I muttered and he bowed politely and left. I got off the bed and cleaned up before leaving the room to go meet with Alpha Damian.

For the first time, I was going to be seeing him in broad daylight. "You look more beautiful than I had initially seen last night." He said to me and I ignored the compliment and bowed to greet him. "It feels great to see you, dear Selene. I'm still in shock. The moon goddess brought you to me on a platter." He muttered from his throne.

"Unfortunately, it doesn't feel so great to see you," I muttered too, and he was stunned.

"I have a question. Do you still love Alpha Asher?" He questioned and I froze.

"Love?" I sighed.

After the humiliation from years ago, who would imagine I still have a tinge of love for that monster?

"Unfortunately I would never love him. Stop testing my patience, Alpha Damian." I muttered through gritted teeth.

"You are the one testing my patience, Selene; if you no longer have an atom of love for that beast of an Alpha, tell me why it's so hard to help destroy him." He said, got up from his throne, and walked closer to me. He grabbed my left hand and threw me closer to him. Then he fished out my middle finger and slid something on it.

In shock, I closed my eyes as I tried to feel what that was without seeing it yet. I felt him kiss my fingers and then bring my fingers to my face. I managed to open my eyes and it was then I realized that I had just been engaged.

"A ring? I never said yes!" I said, terrified.

"Well, you don't have to. You showed up here and that's enough to know you are mine forever. This will be official once our mission is complete." He said and kissed my fingers again. I gulped down my saliva as I tried to stay still.

This bastard lacks romance.

What the hell should I be expecting though? Urgh!

My entire body was feeling wrecked. I felt like my life was going upside down in a way that I had never bargained for. "What is your say about our last night's discussion?" He asked me and I looked up at him.

"I never bargained for that. If he finds out about my intention, I could get killed and my family could get banished-"

"Who is going to tell him? So you would rather your family die than get banished?" He spat, his voice deeper that it pierced through my inner being.
