Vanessa
I felt a warm hand on my shoulder, and i heard a strange voice say, “Hey , stay with me , we are almost there, drive faster Monroe.” the strange voice yelled.
“I am going as fast as i can, unless you want to be admitting more than one patient at the hospital.” i heard someone else say.
“Mom..” i moaned in pain.
“shhh,it's okay, you are going to be okay.” the deep voice soothed me, the warm hand softly petting my hair before i realized it, I slipped out of consciousness again.
I opened my eyes to the soft humming of a beautiful familiar woman, my mother. She was pettingmy hair, the warm breeze of my calm place comforting me.
I looked up to find her looking down at me with a huge grin on her face.
“Such a beautiful Luna, my darling girl.”she said as her hand continued its routine stroking my hair. It was comforting knowing my mother was there with me. I closed my eyes and swallowed the bitter saliva before saying.
“You mean such a battered slave.”
“Don't even finish that sentence young girl. Don't you talk about my favorite creation like that.” she cut me short almost snapping at me.
“Am sorry mom.” i murmured.
“Just rest baby, okay. We will talk when you wake up.” Her voice echoed, as I felt the feeling of her hand pulling away slowly. The warmth of my warm place suddenly collapsed and instead i was met with a biting cold air, and an obnoxious beeping sound.
The cover of my right eye was suddenly peeled back as a bright light shined deep into my pupil. I rolled my eyes in order to avoid the piercing glare.
“Good afternoon maam, how old are you?” a male standing by my bed who o assumed was my doctor asked me. I slowly looked around, I was in a hospital.
“I am twenty three,” i replied gruffly try to look around for a for the man who was bynmy side earlier.
“Do you know which year we are in?” he asked again bringing me back from my thoughts.
“Uh, 2016” I once again replied wondering if i also hallucinated the deep make voice that told me we are almost there.
“Maam, can you please tell me what happened to you? You were brought in suffering from a concussion, as well as a gunshot wound and an open cut at the bottom of your left foor. Three of your ribs are broken and two of them have been displaced.” then it all started coming back to me, the fight and all of a sudden m head felt heavy.
“Uh…am sorry but I really have a bad headache. Is it okay if i get some rest now?” i asked the doctor trying to avoid his questions, for all i know i couldn't trust him, if Alpha Marcus and his guys found me they would kill me in an instant. I needed to find a plan to get out of here.
“It's okay maam but would you like us to alert the police if you are in any kind of danger they could help.” The doctor said now looking at me suspiciously.
“I would really like to get some rest doctor, if you don't mind ofcourse.” i said with a smile on my face which i cousin tell irritated him. He then slowly picked up my chart and shrugged before walking out of my room.
The drugs they gave me were really working fast, I was starting to feel drowsy. I settled into the hospital bed, slowly being caresses into sleep, when two quick knocks erupted from the door keeping me alert.
A huge guy with broad shoulders and wide chest walked into the room, he had auburn hair combed backwards with some strands falling over his face, hazel eyes and a boyish grin on his face. He was the sexiest man i had ever laid eyes on.
“Hey you may not remember me…” he started before i cut him off without thinking. He was the guy who rescued me from Malcolm's guys how could i forget the sexy man that saved my life.
“Nick, your name is Nick. You saved me. I remember you.” I said trying to smile, but then i remembered my jaw was broken too.
He grinned at me, and for a moment my heart melted.
“Right, well um” he cleared his throat and scratched the back of his head as he said “How are we feeling?”
Before i could answer he cut me off, “No wait, of course you are not alright, i mean you got a concussion, several broken ribs, broken jaw, you are not okay.” he said pacing around the room, “and you also got shot.”
It then started coming all back to me bit by bit. I remember being locked up in the basement as usual when Ella, Alpha Marcus’s mate came down there. She was furious at me and blamed me for Marcus not spending enough time with her. She stabbed me and i fought back and hit her on the head she lost consciousness. Then i took that as my window to try and ran away because before Marcus got back. I made it past the gate when one of the men guarding it spotted me and immediately called for backup and informed The alpha. I remember him and his boys coming after me, i remember Alpha Marcus getting to me, and then i remember him lying down in a pool of blood. I bit him with all my might and then used a heavy stone to hit him in his head. I then ran for my life as fast as i could possibly ran. I don't know if he died or survived. Which means the pack must be in the hunt for me. I however don't know how i ended up here. How his men let me go especially after i had badly injured their Alpha. It then dawned on me i was not safe here.
“I know, but you are not safe here Vanessa, we need to get you out as soon as possible.” he said
I paused for a second trying to process everything he was saying, then everything clicked. Of course people were looking for me. I started laughing hysterically a tears started to form in my eyes as the laughter kept on erupting. I wanted to tuen on my side but decided against it when my ribcage protested in pain.
I slowly wiped my tears with the hospital gown as I tried to catch my breath but instead it came out as wheezing.
Nick looked so puzzled almost shocked that I couldn't help but laugh even louder and cry. He let me have my moment in silent before i finally struggled to get up. The second i was on my feet, the world started spinning around me, i quickly sat back down.
“am screwed, ain't i Nick?” i asked him and started laughing uncontrollably again.
“We have to get out of here, now.”
The other lycans began to pay attention, calling out to her. She coated fur in ice, and slid frozen weapons in the direction of any lycan in human form who could wield one. The high body temperature of the lycans meant they quickly burned through their frosty axes and swords. Vanessa was working overtime. She began to feel drained and depleted. Her arms were heavy and her body began to feel cold within. Nick ’s wolf watched her intently. She couldn’t tell what he was thinking. He darted away and into the entrance of the complex, and just as Vanessa was beginning to think she had used up her powers completely, a wave of warmth and energy surged through her. She turned to see Laurie, her blonde brow furrowed in deep concentration. She gave Vanessa a small smile and nod. Lance’s wolf circled Laurie protectively. He did not look one bit happy about this arrangement. Nick returned to Vanessa’s side, ready for another round of ice. She called upon her powers and this time they returned. T
“Aria!” Vanessa yelled. Where had they gone? Where had he taken her? Magic flooded her veins. Without another thought, she hurled a wave of ice toward the disgusting bald man. It hit him with such force that his body flew up and straight through one of the glass walls that made up the complex’s entryway. He hit the stone steps outside with an audible crash and did not move again. As Vanessa turned her gaze she caught sight of Nick . His eyes met with hers and she opened her mouth to speak. Before she could warn him, the air around them crackled. An army of Collectors appeared. A large group surrounded the outer lobby while a small group appeared within the lobby itself. Fear struck Vanessa so strongly she could barely think. The lycans reacted in an instant. Some chose to shift into their wolves, while others remained in human form and used the weapons they had in hand. Leah dove at the Collector nearest to Vanessa, shifting into her lean black wolf in midair. The man screeched as s
Vanessa felt so helpless up here. She understood their reasoning, but still wanted to do more. For now she would have to wait, pray, and hope everyone was safe down below. T he lycans worked efficiently. They had been able to assemble their teams and lock down the complex within half an hour. It was a reminder to Nick of why they trained so hard and how important it was to do so. After securing the inside perimeter, they went outdoors. The scene that met the lycan teams looked like something out of a horror film. The second Nick exited the complex his senses were assaulted by the smell of blood and decaying flesh. The victims were scattered all around the property. The first girl he saw was a small, young brunette. She had long dark hair and large blue eyes that stared up at him accusingly. Her body was so badly mangled that he couldn’t have guessed the original color of clothes she was currently wearing. Deep crimson covered her broken form. The lifeless woman lay at an unnatural an
“Don’t worry about Aria.” He spoke in a gentle tone. “We have plenty of time before we need to think about kids. Let’s just enjoy tonight and worry about all of that later.” His breath was coming out in frosty puffs now. “I can’t do it,” Vanessa said. “Can’t do what?” She finally turned from the window to look at him. “I can’t have kids with you. I can’t do it. I won’t do it.” Nick looked stunned. “Why are you saying this?” Tears streamed down Vanessa’s cheeks. “Do you think I want to have little monsters? To bring them into this world?” “Monsters?” echoed Nick , his jaw tensing. “Yes, monsters! What do you think would happen if we have kids?” Nick was quiet. His eyes burned into hers. “I didn’t realize having lycan children would be so unappealing to you.” Vanessa stared at him, his words catching her off guard. “I guess lycans are good enough to save you, train you, and fuck you. God forbid you have a lycan ‘monster’ child of your own.” There was so much venom in his tone
He gave her a mischievous smirk. “You’ll see.” Vanessa let out a small sound of protest. “First, you need to take a shower and get ready for dinner.” “Dinner?” she asked. He nodded. “Dinner, at Alpha Marcus ’s place.” Vanessa couldn’t hide her surprise. “In the penthouse? But why?” Instead of answering, Nick bent down to capture Vanessa’s lips in a deep kiss. She felt dizzy as he pulled away. “No more questions. I’ll pick you up at seven thirty,” he said as he dropped her off at her door. He bent to give Vanessa one last kiss. “You’re not coming in?” She frowned. “I’ve got to meet with Aria. She’s been bombarding me with party planning all day.” Vanessa laughed. “She can be very persistent.” “Yes she can be.” Nick rubbed his temples. “I’ll be back at seven thirty.” “See you then.” She watched him head down the hallway, his tall frame moving with long purposeful strides. Damn he looked good from behind, from the front, in a suit, in his sweats, in nothing at all. Nick stopped
Vanessa shook her head. “The Collectors are looking for me. We can’t leave the complex. We can’t go outside Matlena’s wards.” “We’re not leaving the complex. Lucky for us there is a gorgeous unused banquet hall right here in the building!” “What? Why is there a banquet hall at Ulric?” Nick was the one who answered this time. “There are often times when Alpha Marcus is forced to entertain other large partners, businesses, and even other Alphas visiting the territory.” He grimaced. “Not to mention a surprise visit from the Infernal Council.” Aria clapped her hands together excitedly. “Exactly. All we need to do is give it a few decorations and voila!” Vanessa could tell by the way Aria said ‘a few’ decorations that it would be anything but a small amount of decor. Aria had a flair for the dramatic, and Vanessa could only imagine what kind of over-the-top antics were in store. Nick put up a hand to stop Aria from saying more. “We can’t just let a bunch of florists and caterers into
