BROOKS

Mom wasn't joking.

I didn't realize this over the week when an interview was arranged two days after, and I got an offer letter the next day.

I realized when I got down in front of Romano Empire the following Monday with my heart thumping wildly in my chest. I was really here. I was really going to start working here now.

The first part of the morning passed in a blur. I was assigned to a team, introduced myself to the team members, and began work. I was over the moon that I was now working at the biggest company in the city, and most times, I had to pinch my skin to convince myself that this was real.

I've hardly seen Stephan since I got the job. I wanted to thank him for the opportunity, but he was hardly ever home, and bringing it up during meals felt too formal. I'd assumed we'd ride to the office together, but this morning, he was already gone before I got ready, and I had to call an Uber.

“Do you have connections to any big names in the company?” Sean, one of my team memberss, asked me out of nowhere. It was lunchtime, and we were currently in the cafeteria.

“What?” I was so startled by the suddenness and strangeness of the question that I couldn't even process it properly.

“I asked if you know any big names in the company?” his tone was light, and he was staring at me with that playful expression I've come to know him with in just hours of knowing him.

“No,” I didn't mean to lie, but when I opened my mouth, that was the answer that came out.

“That's strange,” he went back to eating his food while conversations from our other team members and other teams floated around.

“Why is it strange?” I pressed.

“I think it's because there was no job opening in the company at all until last week, and this position was just created,” Betty, the lady sitting beside me, answered, “and then, you got in. So he thinks someone up there created the position just for you.”

“Ohhh, that's strange,” I muttered quietly with different thoughts swimming in my head. It was indeed strange that the position had just been created last week. The coincidence was too unreal, but it was nothing. I was sure of it.

Stephan didn't even know I was fired before he told Mom about the job.

“That's a bizarre coincidence,” I continued in a clearer tone, “I lost my old job, and this new one was created that same day.”

“I’d say you're one lucky Lady,” Betty joked as she briefly hugged me. I laughed as well as the rest of the table that could hear us. The table dissolved into other conversations but that thought was still on repeat in my head.

How much of a coincidence could it be that Stephan’s company created a new position that suited me just before I lost my old job?

I had to use the toilet after I was done eating, while the others returned to our office. I stepped out of the bathroom when I was done to see Stephan walking down the lobby with the staff clearing the way for him and bowing to him. I initially wanted to walk away, but then, I realized this was an opportunity to thank him. It was better to thank him now and get it over and done with. I followed him, but it was hard to catch up with him. He continued walking till he left the crowded lobbies and brimming office areas.

He was now walking in a deserted corridor, and I had already decided to turn back and return to the office when he entered a room and banged the door after him. Except that the door really didn't close: it bounced back and left an opening, and before I could think of peeping in, I heard a loud, sultry female voice.

“Hmm Daddy, what took you so long? I've been waiting for almost an…” A loud smack cut her off, and she yelped so loudly my heart jumped in my chest, and I flattened against the wall.

There was a brief moment of rustling clothes and leader, followed by an unmistakable erotic moan, then loud slapping sounds and animated moans.

I knew what was happening then.

I should turn back and walk away now, but I was rooted to a position by what started as moans and whimpers that had now fully transformed into pleas and cries. She sounded like she was being torn apart in the most beautiful way that anybody would do anything to experience.

Her sounds moved my body from the wall, but instead of walking away, I moved closer to the door and peeped in. The girl, whose face was ruined with tears with her mascara running, was bent over the table, looking all messed up in the most beautiful way while Stephan was behind her, holding her head back by a belt, nuzzling around her neck and his hips slamming into hers.

It was the most intriguing sight.

I couldn't tear my eyes away, couldn't stop the ocean that had sprung to life in my core and was now dampening my pants, couldn't stop my mouth from watering as I imagined myself in that same position, bent up and getting my womb shifted.

Stephan looked up. I jerked back with so much force that I must have cracked a bone. I walked away and I didn't stop walking till I had left that place far behind.

I entered another toilet to wipe myself and to calm my heart.

God! What's wrong with you, Brooks? That was your stepbrother. You got aroused while watching your stepbrother fuck a random girl.

She has done worse. My wolf’s voice butted in. She had already slept with one of her stepbrothers.

I blocked out the two voices and returned to the office, but for the rest of the day, I couldn't get the image of the belt around her neck, of the sheer strength in Stephan’s hand as he held it while railing into her.

The day was nearing its end when HR sent me a message requesting my presence at the CEO’s office. It was so unexpected that I had to visit their office to confirm if the message was indeed intended for me. It was confirmed, which is why I'm walking into Stephan’s office right now, after his receptionist showed me in.

His office was huge, much larger than the entire office that housed 17 of my team members. The interior was in grey and black, and it smelled of wealth in here, of nine-figure deals, and generational wealth.

“Hi,” I stood uncertainly in front of Stephan, who had his whole attention on the open folder in front of him.

Seeing him now in this huge office, behind the big mahogany table, and dressed in his black suit, reminded me of just how powerful he is and how he holds the world at his fingertips.

“You have something to say to me.” It wasn't a question. It was rather a statement, and he still didn't look up from the folder. I didn't know what to make of the statement.

“What?” I hated that I sounded like a child.

“You followed me earlier,” he straight out pointed out in a flat tone, and I felt my soul leave my body. My steps faltered on their own accord, and I had to hold on to his desk so I wouldn't fall.

“So you must have something to say because I'm sure you're not that lazy on your first day to follow me and watch me fuck a girl.”

Embarrassment and shame gnawed at me with so much force I felt the physical pain. He saw me. He knew I watched them.

“I didn't… I wasn't watching you.”

“You weren't?” he dumped the folder on the desk before standing up. He walked around the desk to make his way slowly to me. I stood my ground and made a silent resolve not to squirm under his intensely dismissive gaze.

“You weren't?” he mused over the words as he stood right opposite me, his hands in his pockets, “You sure were. What is it to you? Do you have a fetish for watching your stepbrother fuck other girls?”

My throat dried up. The images in my head became even more visceral: him holding her head up with the belt, the fertility in his thrusts as if he wanted to destroy her. They sent the signal to the wrong part of my body, and I felt a liquid trickle out of my core.

Stephan’s nostril flared then, and his eyes, suddenly darker with flashes of red that could only belong to his wolf, dipped lower to rest briefly on my waist.

I took a subconscious step back.

“I… I realized that… A colleague told me that there were no ongoing recruitments last week and that the position I currently occupy was just created last week.”

“So?” he sounded so bored and irritated, like my mere presence was causing his eyes to bleed.

“It feels like so much of a coincidence that I lost my job and you have this newly created one that fits so well into my resume on that same day.”

He looked at me. Without saying anything for a while, he just looked at me, brows furrowed in confusion, with a frown starting to form on his face.

“So you're saying that somehow, I knew beforehand that you were going to lose your job, and told your mother about this new job even before you lost the job?”

Putting it like that does not make any sense, not in the slightest.

He nodded slowly as if a puzzle just clicked into place.

“I see now that you don't have a brain to keep the job. You can drop your resignation letter with your team's HR.”

With that, he turned away and dismissed me.

BROOKS“Zade…” My voice cracked.I caught him before he hit the ground, my knees slamming into the dirt. His blood was warm, spilling fast, coating my hands before I even realized what was happening.Lady Natasha stood frozen, the dagger still slick in her grasp, her eyes wide in disbelief. The reality hit her too late. She just killed her own son.“Zade,” I whispered again, shaking, pressing both palms over the wound in his chest. Blood kept seeping through my fingers, no matter how hard I pushed. “No, no, stay with me. You have to heal, please—”But he wasn’t healing. The light from the wound flickered darkly, black energy pulsing beneath his skin. My heart lurched. The dagger. It was enchanted. Whatever poison it carried was eating through him from the inside out.His breathing was shallow, broken. His eyes fluttered, unfocused, the blue in them fading into silver.“Why?” I whispered, my tears falling onto his cheek. “Why would you do that?”He smiled faintly, the corners of his li

ZADEThe war was still going on. On the battle field, we still had the upper hand, Natasha’s army falling. But it didn’t feel like it. Not with Brooks gone.I paced outside what was left of the command site. Inside the tent, medics worked on Stephan, his arm bent at an angle that made even Heath look away. The mate bond we all shared with Brooks pulsed. She was alive. I could feel it. We all could.Stephan groaned when the medics tried to reset his shoulder. I pushed forward and helped hold him steady, ignoring the sting of glass still buried in my palms. The bone clicked back into place with a sharp crack, and he hissed through his teeth, sweat sliding down his temple.“I’m fine,” he muttered, voice tight. “We need to find her. Now.”“I’ll go.” Heath spoke, his voice cracking halfway through, rough and desperate. “She’s out there alone. I won’t lose her again.”Stephan tried to push to his feet but stumbled, his strength bleeding out faster than he could hide. That’s when I made

STEPHANThis was the night.I stood in the command center surrounded by screens that flickered with drone feeds and red digital lines marking troop positions. Voices filled my earpiece, updates, confirmations, requests, but they all blurred into one long hum in the back of my mind. My eyes stayed sharp, but my chest felt tight.I have never seen so many people ready to die in a single night.Heath was already at the frontlines, leading the main Romano force. His voice had come through the comms earlier, steady and confident, even though I could tell he was just as tense as I was. Zade was supposed to be marching with Lady Natasha’s army by now, pretending loyalty until it was time to strike.Around me, soldiers and aides moved with practiced precision, calling out readiness reports, fine-tuning the shields, syncing artillery drones. I nodded where I needed to, gave orders when I had to. But every few seconds, my eyes strayed toward the corner of the tent.Brooks sat there, wrapped

ZADELying had become second nature to me when it came to feeding Lady Natasha cock and bull.It was easy.I told her that Venita had been passing information to the Romanos. That she was still obsessed with Stephan and she’d started feeding intel to the enemy. She believed me instantly. She looked me in the eye, proud of me, telling me that I did the right thing. Told me I’d proven myself worthy, finally. If only she knew. Now I was sitting across from Stephan and Heath in our hideout, a map spread across the table between us. “She’s moving sooner than expected,” I said, tracing the inked lines of the map with my finger. “Lady Natasha’s invasion is set for the eve of the full moon. Her formation is that the main force will come from the west and the smaller units will infiltrate from the lower ridge.”My brother hummed.“Her priority is Brooks,” I added. “Somehow, she already knows her powers are manifesting.”Heath’s head snapped up, eyes narrowing. “And how the hell would she kno

ZADEWhen I got the message that something was wrong with Brooks, nothing else mattered.I didn’t even wait for details before I hopped into my car, telling Liora to cover for my absence at the lair so that my mum won’t be suspicious. When I reached the edge of the old ruins, the place we used for discreet meetings which was just a mile from the Romano pack house, Stephan and Heath were already there, waiting for me.“Where is she?” I demanded, breathless, heart hammering in my throat. “What happened to Brooks?”Heath’s eyes flashed, his shoulders squaring. But he said nothing, of course. Stephan, on the other hand, kept looking between me and Heath as if expecting a fight to break out.“She’s at the palace infirmary. Unconscious,” he finally responded to me. “She’s getting worse, and it’s beyond anything we can control.”“What do you mean ‘beyond control’?” I asked, trying to steady my breath. Stephan’s jaw tightened. “The royal physician said her powers are manifesting earlier tha

BROOKS“Summon the royal physician. Now!” My voice cut through the infirmary, and the maid bolted without hesitation.Heath remained glued to Brooks’ side, crouched low, his hand hovering just above her arm like he wanted to touch but couldn’t. His jaw clenched so hard I could hear his teeth grind.“She’s burning alive,” he muttered. “I can’t just stand here—”“I know,” I said sharply, because if I let him keep going, I’d lose my own control. I looked at her again, her lips dry, her breath uneven. The royal physician came in a couple of minutes later, her gaze sharpening the moment it landed on Brooks.“My lords, I must ask you both to step out,” she said gently but firmly. “I need a clear space to examine her.”“No.” Heath’s answer was immediate and guttural. “I’m not leaving her.”I stepped forward, placing myself between him and the physician. “It will only take a moment,” I said low, steady. “She’s not sending us away. She’s trying to help. We’ll wait right outside the door.”Hea
