The room felt like I tomb. There was no way I could go out without being unnoticed. I knnew he was watching. I knew if I tried to use the phone, he would hear me.

I stood at the window, staring out at the dark dense tree line. Somewhere out there, Liamm was risking everything to save me.

I have to get to him, I thought. I have to tell him to run.

I didn't have a plan, just a fantic, desperate instict. The window. It was my only exit. I didn't think, I just let the girl I had been holding back for five years take over.

My bones cracked and reformed, a painful, familiar heat surging through my veins as I tumbled onto the grass below. Jaxson was probably going to catch me, but it was a risk I was willing to take.

I picked up Liam's scent after running for more than five minutes. I was a little rusty, but I was a able to find him. Shiting back was agonizing, my skin knitting together as I gasped for air, collapsing onto cold dirt. I was shivering, completely naked and exposed. Forgot about that part of the shift.

"Ava?"

He was standing ten feet away. He hadn't seen the wolf, but he saw me now.  Shivering. Naked. Covered in dirt.

"Liam, what are you doing here?" I rasped, letting out a deep sigh.

"I tracked your phone after the call I made this evening. I was already at Silver ridge then but I didn't know exactly where to look. I've been looking for days." he said, stepping forward, his eyes filled with terryfing innocent kindness. "Ava, come on. Put my jacket on. Let's go home"

He wrapped the jacket around me immediately, ashamed to see what he had seen countless of times. I could understand him though. It's not everyday you see your girlfriend naked in the woods.

I looked past him. A pair of glowing golden eyes watched us from the shadows. Jaxson. He was waiting for me to fail.

I took a breath and hardened my heart. I had to make him hate me so he’d never look back.

"Home?" I laughed, the sound cold and hollow. "You think I want to go back to that boring life? You think I was 'lost'?"

Liam stopped, confused. "You disappeared. You told me you were going strictly for business."

"Well this is the business,," I lied, standing up as much as I could while staying in the shadows. "I found someone better, Liam. Someone with actual power. Someone who owns everything you see here."

"Ava, look at yourself. You’re... you’re not okay." he said reaching to me.

"Don't touch me," I snapped, pulling back into the shadows. "You think I'm a victim? I'm naked because I just came from the lake nearby where I went skinny dipping with my fiance, Liam. I didn't want you to 'find' me. I wanted to see if you were still pathetic enough to follow me like a lost puppy."

Liam froze, his face turning a sickly shade of grey. "You... you're staying here? You're leaving me? You're leaving us?"

Ouch. That words hit me like a physical blow, but I kept my mask of cold indifference. I had no choice.

"He's my fiancé. He's richer, more good looking and wonderful in bed," I lied, the words tasting like poison. "And you? You're just a mistake I’m finally erasing. Go home, Liam. Before I have security show you what we do to trespassers."

He didn't say another word. He just looked at me with pure, unadulterated disgust, turned around, and walked away into the dark.

As soon as his footsteps faded, I felt a presence behind me. I didn't have to look to know it was Jaxson.

"That was cruel, little wolf," he whispered, his hands lingering on my neck. "I almost belived it myself."

"He's safe," I whispered, my tears finally falling. "That was the deal."

Jaxson leaned down, his teeth grazing my ear. "Oh, he'll live. But he’ll never come back for you. There's no one left to save you now, Ava. It's just you and me. And tomorrow... you become mine forever."

"Take it off," Jaxson’s voice rasped from the shadows. He stepped into the moonlight, his golden eyes fixed on the jacket with a look of pure loathing.

"No," I whispered, pulling it tighter. "I’m cold, Jaxson."

"I said, take it off." He didn't wait for me to obey. He reached out, his fingers brushing my collarbone as he jerked the denim away.

I gasped, stumbling back, my hands flying up to cover my chest. I thought this was it. I thought he was going to take advantage of me right there in the dirt, punishing me for even speaking to Liam.

"What are you doing?" I choked out, my eyes wide with terror.

Jaxson didn't answer. He threw Liam’s jacket into the mud and stepped into my space, his heat radiating off him like a furnace. Before I could scream, he was unbuttoning his own heavy, expensive wool coat.

He draped it over me, the silk lining sliding against my bare skin. It was warm—unnervingly warm—and it smelled entirely of him: cedar, rain, and the metallic tang of an Alpha's power.

"Nothing touches you but me," he murmured, his thumb catching a tear on my cheek and crushing it against my skin. "Not even a thread from that human’s closet."

He didn't give me time to process the fear. He swept me up into his arms, his grip bruisingly tight, and began the long walk back to the mansion.

  • MATED TO THE ALPHA I HATED    GETTING MARRIED

I opened the door and walked out.Jaxson was leaning against the opposite wall, his arms crossed over his massive chest, his foot tapping impatiently. When he looked up, the smug expression he'd been wearing didn't just fade, it vanished into a void of pure shock. His eyes raked over the shredded lace of the dress, but then they climbed higher, staring at the raw edges of hair I had cut. I watched the color drain from his face, just the way I had pictured it. "What," he started, his voice a low, vibrating growl. "did you do?""I fixed it," I said, my voice steady, even as my heart was racing. "I adored Luna Melissa, Jaxson. But don't you ever mistake your mother for me. If you want a Luna, you'll get your Luna."He moved so fast, I didn't even see him.I only felt the rush of cold air beforre he slammed his hand into the wall beside my head, leaving us only inches apart."You think this is funny?"He grabbed a handful of my uneven hair, pulling my head to the back until I was forced t

  • MATED TO THE ALPHA I HATED    THE LUNA HE BOUGHT

I stood in the center of the Alpha suite, staring at that white lace dress on the bed like it was a pile of ash. It looked like a gothic dress from the 80s.My skin still felt cold from where his fingers had clamped around my wrist earlier. I paced the room, my heels clicking sharply against the hardwood.I stormed out of the room, trying to start another war.Instead, I saw my parents."Ava?" my mom called out, relief flooding her voice."I know, he threatened to exile you. I can't believe he'd do that to two of the oldest pack members.""Ava, listen to me," my mother pleaded, stepping forward " We had to sign the contract. We saw the way he looked at you at the coronation. We felt the power of the bond. You can't run from fate.""Wait, wait. You did what?" I turned to my father. "Jaxson threatened to exile you! That's the only reason I'm still in thid miderable town."My father shook his head slowly, his eyes full of a pity that made me want to scream. "He didn't have to threaten

  • MATED TO THE ALPHA I HATED    NO WAY OUT

"Go to hell, Jaxson."I didn't even have time to blink before the world tilted. Jaxson lunged forward, his shoulder slamming into my stomach as he lifted me into the air."Jaxson! Put me down! You arrogant, overbearingg son of a—"I hammered my fists against his back and swung my legs uselessly in the air. The guards didn't dare look at us, their heads bowed as their Alpha passed by with his trashing, screaming mate.He tossed me into the back seat of the lead SUV, the locks clicking nefore I could even try to escape. The drive was a suffocating silence. My phone buzzed in my pocket; once, twice, five times. I didn't need to look a the screen to know who it was.Liam. The man waiting for me in the city. He was probably worried about me. I barely answered his calls throughout the trip. The moment we got to the pack house, my stomach dropped. The place still looked annoyingly the same. We used to train as kids, I'd peep Jaxson by the bushes during his special training. I growned at my

  • MATED TO THE ALPHA I HATED    STUCK IN THIS NIGHTMARE

JAXON'S POV"The search is over!" I said to the crowd. "Ava Thorne is your Luna!"I suddenly began to hear whispers explode all over the room."Ava? The one who ran away?""The weakling? She’s the Luna?""Look at her... she doesn't even have a pack mark." Ava didn't scream. She didn't cry. She just looked at me with a hatred so pure it was beautiful. Then, before I could react, she lunged forward, grabbed my tie, and hauled me toward the side office."Move," she hissed.I followed her, my wolf purring at her aggression. The second the door slammed shut, she exploded."Are you mad?!" she screamed, her voice cracking the heavy silence of the room. "Are you absolutely, out of your mind, insane, Jaxson?"I didn't answer. I couldn't. Up close, without the pack watching, she was devastating. Her chest heaved with every breath, the silk of that dress straining against her breasts, dipping so low I could see the rapid pulse in her throat."I had a life!" she yelled. The slit in her dr

  • MATED TO THE ALPHA I HATED     THE CLAIM

I hoped it wasn't what I was thinking. I prayed to a moon goddess I hadn't spoken to in years that the sudden, violent pulling my chest was just a small heart attack. But as Jaxson's eyes locked onto mine from the podium, the air became still. The bond didn't just snap, it roared. Please don't feel it. Please let it be a mistake. But the way his knuckles turned white as he gripped the edge of the stone podium told said otherwise. His nostrils flared, taking in my scent; the scent he had once mocked, now intensified by the woman I had become. He felt it. He definitely felt it.For ten agonizing seconds , the future Alpha of the Silver Ridge looked like he'd seen a ghost. The whole pack started to murmur, sensing the sudden spike in his scent."Jaxson?" his whispered, nudging him.Jaxson blinked, his nostrils flaring as he drank in my scent from across the room. Just one more hour I told myself, my fingers digging into my palms. The ceremony is over. The party starts. Then I fade out
