THE CLAIM

I hoped it wasn't what I was thinking. I prayed to a moon goddess I hadn't spoken to in years that the sudden, violent pulling my chest was just a small heart attack.

But as Jaxson's eyes locked onto mine from the podium, the air became still. The bond didn't just snap, it roared.

Please don't feel it. Please let it be a mistake.

But the way his knuckles turned white as he gripped the edge of the stone podium told said otherwise. His nostrils flared, taking in my scent; the scent he had once mocked, now intensified by the woman I had become.

He felt it. He definitely felt it.

For ten agonizing seconds , the future Alpha of the Silver Ridge looked like he'd seen a ghost. The whole pack started to murmur, sensing the sudden spike in his scent.

"Jaxson?" his whispered, nudging him.

Jaxson blinked, his nostrils flaring as he drank in my scent from across the room.

Just one more hour I told myself, my fingers digging into my palms. The ceremony is over. The party starts. Then I fade out the backdoor and catch the first flight out of this hellhole.

The coronation sooner transitioned into celebration, which in this pack, was just a polite word for a riot.

The music was a low, primal thrumming that made the floorboards vibrate. Because it was a full-moon eve, everyone's wolves were close to the surface. The heat in the room was thick with the smell of sweat, alcohol and pheromones.

I stood at the very back near the bar, trying to avoid my parents and every other person there and make a run for it.

"God, this is disgusting," I muttered, leaning against a wooden pillar. "One giant, furry orgy. All we're missing is the bowl of car keys and some flea collars."

Everywhere I looked, wolves were pressed against each other , necks exposed, hands wandering. Some of them were literally mating on the spot.

"You always did have a sense of humour, Ava."

Of course he heard me. I did't need to turn around to know it was him. The bond was already screaming at me to lean back into him, to let his scent wash over me.

"And you always had a habit of sneaking up on people," I retorted, taking a slow sip of the drink I had snatched from a waiter five seconds ago.

"Shouldn't you be on the throne, Alpha? Your subjects are probably missing you."

Jaxson stepped closer. He had taken off the jacket, his white shirt unbuttoned at the collar.  He looked so fucking hot, it was annoying. He looked like he was going to devour me and kill me at the same time

  "You came back," he said.

"I was summoned under threat of being hunted," I corrected, finally turning to face him. I let my eyes trail over him with bored indiference, even though my insides were melting. "Don't flatter yourself, Jaxson. I'm not here for you."

He stepped even closer, invading my space. The air between us crackled with five years of hate and a bond that didn't care aboutt my feelings.

"The bond.... you felt it," he whispered, his eyes dropping to my lips.

"I felt a sudden urge to vomit, if that's what you mean," I snapped.  "If you think I'm going to stand up there and be your little Luna just because the moon played a little prank on us, you're even stupider than you were in high school."

"You think I'm just going to let my mate go?"

"Mate? Bullshit." I said with an irritated look on my face.  "I'm the girl who left five years ago, and in ten minutes I'll be out of here.

I turned to leave, but he gripped my arm before I could take a step.

"One dance," he commanded, his voice shifting to commanding Alpha tone. "Give me one dance, or I'll announce who you are to this entire room right now."

The dance floor was a suffocating crush of bodies, a literal "wolf orgy" of heat and scent. Jaxson led me to the center, his hand firm on the small of my back, right where the silk of my dress gave way to bare skin.

Every touch felt like a brand.

"You look so different, thought you hated the spotlight, Ava," he whispered, pulling me against his chest as the music slowed to a low, heavy beat.

"I hate your spotlight," I corrected, keeping my chin up, refusing to look affected by the way our bodies fit together like puzzle pieces. "So, let’s get this over with. One dance, and you let me walk out of here without a scene. That was the deal."

Jaxson leaned down, his nose brushing against my temple. He took a deep, shaky breath, scenting me. "You smell like the city. Like cold rain and... human perfume."

"That's funny," I leaned in, my lips hovering just an inch from his ear. "The guy who brought up my room service yesterday said I smelled like heaven."

I felt him go rigid. A low, thunderous growl vibrated through his chest.

"You let a human touch you?" he hissed, his fingers digging into my waist.

"I’m a grown woman, Jaxson. I do whatever, and whoever I want," I pulled back, checking the watch on my wrist. "Song's over. Thanks for the dance. Don't call me."

I turned to walk away, I was three steps away from the exit, already imagining the cold air outside, when the music suddenly cut to a screeching halt.

"Members of the Silver Ridge Pack!"

Jaxson’s voice didn't just carry; it commanded. My wolf wanted to bow to it.

I spun around, my blood running cold.

"You lied," I whispered, though I knew he could hear me. "You said if I danced, you’d let me go."

"The search is over," he declared, his voice echoing off the rafters. "Tonight, I don't just take my father's crown. I take my mate."

"This is Ava," he said pointing at me. "Your new luna."

The room exploded. My parents' gasps, the pack's cheers, the jealous snarls of the women who wanted his title, it all blurred into one roarin sound. He had trapped me in front of the one crowd I never wanted to see again.

I looked up at him, my eyes burning with a hatred so pure it felt like fire.

"You think you won?" I mouthed through the chaos.

Jaxson just smirked.

A slow, dark smile that told me the war had only just begun.

  • MATED TO THE ALPHA I HATED    IN CONTROL

Ava’s POVThe morning air outside was crisp, but it was a relief compared to the suffocating luxury of the dining hall. I walked along the stone path of the rose garden, my shoes clicking softly against the gravel. For the first time in what felt like forever, the constant, crushing weight in my chest eased just a fraction.Because I wasn't alone."I’m telling you, he once spent three hours trying to track down a rogue squirrel because he thought it was a spy from the neighboring pack," Ethan laughed, his shoulders bouncing under his leather jacket. "The guy has zero chill. He’s had a stick up his ass since he was twelve."A genuine, breathless laugh escaped my lips. "Please tell me you have pictures of that.""Somewhere in the old archive room, absolutely. I’ll dig them out for you," Ethan said, giving me a warm, easy smile. He walked with a lazy grace, hands shoved into his pockets, totally the opposite of Jaxson.Looking at Ethan, I felt a wave of profound relief. After the b

  • MATED TO THE ALPHA I HATED    A SPARK OF HOPE

AVA'S POVThe shame hit me harder than the pleasure had. I stayed on the bed, staring at the ceiling, feeling the wetness between my thighs and the ache in my soul. I had wanted him. I had begged for him.I hated myself for it. How could I have given into the stupid urge?He had proven that no matter how much I hated him, I was exactly where he wanted me: under his thumb, and wanting more......I couldn't sleep that night. I felt so ashamed and disgusted with myself. Also, the maids had come two hours ago to prepare me for breakfast with the family. Fuck my life. The dining hall was a cavern of silence and polished mahogany. The table was ridiculously long, a literal physical barrier between the people sitting at it. At the head sat Jaxson, looking as sharp and lethal in a black suit, his wavy hair falling to obe side, his expression unreadable. He still looked annoyingly attractive and I hated it.To his left were his parents, the former Alpha and Luna. They barely looked at me. I c

  • MATED TO THE ALPHA I HATED    CONSUMMATION OF OUR HATE

The silence in the room was louder than the moans had been. It was an insult. A physical weight pressing against my chest. I stood at the edge of the bed, watching the flickering blue light of her laptop screen reflect in her eyes. She was still wearing those headphones. Still acting like I was a ghost.I didn't think. I just acted. I reached down and ripped the headphones off her head."Hey!" she snapped, finally looking at me. Her eyes were wide, the pupils blown with sudden adrenaline. "What the hell is your problem?""My problem?" I leaned over her, my hands planting on either side of her hips, pinning her into the mattress. The scent of her, vanilla and that sharp, defiant fire, was overwhelming now that Cassandra’s perfume was gone. "My problem is that you seem to have forgotten who you’re talking to.""I know exactly who I'm talking to," she hissed, trying to push against my chest. Her hands were small, but they felt like brands against my skin. "I'm talking to a man who’s

  • MATED TO THE ALPHA I HATED    THE WEDDING NIGHT

AVA'S POVThe doors clicked shut, sealing us into the Alpha’s suite. I felt the weight of the emerald on my finger, a cold reminder of the blood I’d spilled at the altar. I expected a confrontation. I expected Jaxson to finally drop the act and show me the monster beneath the suit.I didn't expect the audience.I wasn't ready for Cassandra. She was draped across the silk sheets of our wedding bed like she was the one who had just spent three hours at an altar. Cassandra Williams, A.K.A the girl who had made my high school years a living hell, the "queen" who had always looked down her nose at the "ragged wolf girl." She was wearing a lace robe that probably cost more than it should, and her eyes sparkled with a triumphant light."Ava," she purred, her voice like honeyed poison. "You look... tired. The dress is a bit much, don't you think?"I turned to Jaxson, my heart hammering a frantic rhythm against my ribs. "What is she doing here?"Jaxson didn't even look at me. He was bu

  • MATED TO THE ALPHA I HATED    THE ALPHA’S CLAIM

JAXSON’S POVThe Great Hall of the Silver Ridge estate was a cathedral of stone, shadows, and the scent of over a thousand predators. They stood in silence, a sea of dark suits and glowing eyes, waiting for the moment their Alpha would finally take a mate and solidify the bloodline.I didn’t care about the bloodline. I didn’t care about the Council members sitting in the front row with their judgmental stares and their ledgers. My focus was entirely on the heavy oak doors at the end of the long, candlelit aisle.I was restless. My wolf was pacing behind my ribs, his claws dragging against my soul. He wasn't looking for a Luna; he was looking for her. He wanted to claim the girl who had dared to jump out of a window to escape us. He wanted to punish her for the scent of that human boy that still lingered in the back of my mind, a bitter sting of jealousy I refused to acknowledge. Then, the doors groaned open. The air in the room didn't just shift; it vanished. For a heartbeat, it f

  • MATED TO THE ALPHA I HATED    THE ALPHA'S LUNA

The walk back to mansion felt like forever. I stayed limp in Jaxson's arms, my face buried in the silk lining of his coat. I didn't want to see the trees, the dirt, or his face! I didn't want to be see anything that reminded me of the girl who had been free just an hour ago. Finally I could see the mansion ahead. The guards at the entrance didn't even blink as their alpha carried a naked, trembling woman through the front doors. They simply bowed."I can walk now," I whispered as we reached the staircase. "No, you can't," Jaxson replied. His voice wasn't angry anymore, it was possessive. He held me tighter, his fingers digging into my hip through the heavy coat. "You've had your fun for the night, Ava. From now on, you stay exactly where I put you."He didn't take me back to my room. He took me to his.The door clicked shut, and I swallowed nothing. He set me down on the edge of his massive, cold bed. I clutched his coat around me, staring at the floor."Tomorrow morning, the stylists
