INICIAR SESIÓNJAXON'S POV
"The search is over!" I said to the crowd. "Ava Thorne is your Luna!"
I suddenly began to hear whispers explode all over the room.
"Ava? The one who ran away?"
"The weakling? She’s the Luna?"
"Look at her... she doesn't even have a pack mark."
Ava didn't scream. She didn't cry. She just looked at me with a hatred so pure it was beautiful. Then, before I could react, she lunged forward, grabbed my tie, and hauled me toward the side office.
"Move," she hissed.
I followed her, my wolf purring at her aggression. The second the door slammed shut, she exploded.
"Are you mad?!" she screamed, her voice cracking the heavy silence of the room. "Are you absolutely, out of your mind, insane, Jaxson?"
I didn't answer. I couldn't. Up close, without the pack watching, she was devastating. Her chest heaved with every breath, the silk of that dress straining against her breasts, dipping so low I could see the rapid pulse in her throat.
"I had a life!" she yelled. The slit in her dress flashed her thigh with every step revealing more skin. "I had a flight! I have a job! You don't get to just stand up there and announce me like I’m a new piece of furniture for your Pack House!"
I stepped toward her, my shadow falling over her. She stopped pacing and lifted her head.
She was so small compared to me, but she stood her ground. My eyes betrayed me, wandering down the curve of her throat to her huge breasts, then down to tits showing slightly. She had changed a whole lot since high school.
"Did you hear a word I said?" she said, snapping her fingers in front of my face. "I am leaving, Jaxson. I don't care about the bond. I don't care about your crown. I hate you. Do you understand? I. Hate. You."
"You’re shouting, Ava," I said, my voice coming out as a low as possible.
"I'll do more than shout! I'll—"
I moved faster than she could blink. I slammed my hands onto the door on either side of her head, trapping her. I leaned in until our noses were almost touching, until I could feel the heat radiating off her skin.
"You can hate me all you want," I growled, my gaze dropping to her lips, red, pouty, and trembling with rage. "You can tell me about every human you've slept with to try and forget me. But you aren't getting on that plane. You’re the Luna of Silver Ridge. My Luna. And if I have to chain you to my bed to keep you here, I will."
Her breath hitched. For a second, the anger in her eyes flickered into something else. Something that felt a lot like the yearning that was currently tearing me apart
I stared at the pulse jumping in her neck, the exact spot where my teeth needed to sink in. My fangs ached, pushing against my gums. One bite. That’s all it would take to seal her to this territory, to me.
She saw my eyes drop to her shoulder and she let out a jagged breath, her hand flying up to cover her skin.
"Don't you dare," she whispered, her voice trembling. "If you mark me while I'm angry, Jaxson, I will never forgive you. I'll spend the rest of my life making sure you regret it."
The threat should have cooled my blood. Instead, seeing her so fierce, so defiant, only made the yearning worse.
"You can do whatever you want, but do not make the mistake of thinking I'd make the stay here again."
She proceeded to leave.
"Oh, and also Jaxson." she added.
"You really need to learn how to control yourself around a woman." she said, staring at my bulging cock before leaving.
AVA'S POV
I woke up at 11am, still feeling tired from the event earlier.
I didn't bother with breakfast. I threw my emerald dress into the suitcase, pulled on a pair of tight leather pants and a white silk blouse, and headed down to the lobby.
Just get to the airport. Once you’re in the air, the pack laws don't mean shit.
I checked out in silence, the receptionist refusing to meet my eyes. I pushed through the hotel's revolving doors, expecting to see my pre-booked taxi.
Instead, the street was lined with blacked-out cars.
They were parked in a perfect semicircle, blocking every exit from the hotel driveway. A dozen hefty men stood in formation, their faces grim, their eyes fixed on me. It was a military operation for a single woman.
The door of the center SUV opened, and Jaxson stepped out.
He was in dressed in a black suit that made him look like sin, and dark shades.
"The taxi is five minutes late," I said, leaning casually against my suitcase, though my pulse was racing. "Move the cars, Jaxson. I have a flight to catch."
Jaxson stopped two feet from me. The air around him was vibrating. "The taxi isn't coming, Ava. Neither is your flight."
"What did you do?"
"I've closed the borders," he growled, his voice a low, gravelly rasp that set my skin on fire. "No one leaves Silver Ridge. Not until my Luna is safely in the Pack House where she belongs."
"I am not your Luna!" I stepped into his space, poking a finger into his hard chest. "I’d rather move in with a complete stranger than spend a single night in your house."
Jaxson’s hand snapped out, catching my wrist. He didn't hurt me, but his grip was like iron. He leaned down, his eyes glowing dangerously.
"You want to play the rebellious mate? Fine. But you’re going to do it from my bedroom."
He signaled to the guards. Two of them stepped forward and grabbed my suitcase.
"Get in the car, Ava," he commanded, his Alpha voice vibrating through my bones. "We can do this the easy way, or I can throw you over my shoulder in front of everyone. Either way, you're coming home."
Jaxson’s POV"Get out of this room, Jaxson. Before I show you exactly what a broken contract looks like."Her voice didn't shake. It was a flat, frozen line that sliced right through the lingering heat of the room.My wolf whimpered in the back of my mind. It was a pathetic, wounded sound. Just moments ago, he had been roaring, drunk on dominance and the thrill of claiming our mate in front of a rival. Now, he was backing away, clawing at the walls of our mental cage, terrified of the hollow chill bleeding through the mate bond. Weak. That's what he is. Not me though. I am not weak."Ava," I started, my voice rough and cracked. I took another half-step forward, my hands half-raised, completely pathetic. I wanted to reach for her. I wanted to drag her back to me and wipe that look of disgust off her face, even if I had to burn the whole world down to do it.I am not weak. Her fingers tightened harder against the fabric of the duvet, her knuckles turning stark white. "Do not mak
Jaxson’s POVI knew he was out there. The scent of leather clinging to the air. Ethan was still out on that ledge, pressed against the brickwork in the dark thinking he was slick. My iwolf was a roaring furnace of black, homicidal rage, clawing at my throat to tear my brother to pieces for standing anywhere near what was ours, for coming near her. But as Ava’s small hands tangled in my collar, pulling me down into her heat, a darker, much more vicious instinct took over.Let him stay, the wolf whispered, its teeth baring inside my head. Let him watch.I didn’t say it out loud. I didn’t dare let Ava know that her little savior was trapped on the other side of that sheer curtain. But as I stared down into her defiant, blown-out pupils, a cruel, possessive thrill shot straight to my core. I was going to ruin her right here against the glass. I was going to make her scream my name so loud that it would bleed through the stone walls, carving the sound of her submission directly into m
AVA's POVThe aftermath of my countermove left a ringing silence in the garden, but the victory was short-lived. By noon, the heavy weight of pack tradition officially caught up to me. As the new luna, I was placed under mandatory leave. A stupid pack lawdesigned to keep the newly mated female isolated inside the Alpha's wing for three days.I still don't have my phone. They want me to concentrate entirely on my connection to pack lands. What a foolish law. I never bothered to learn them since I didn't think I'd be mated to a royal. When I didn't get mated at eighteen, I gave up. I thought the moon goddess was doing me a favour then, but clearly fate always catches up to us.By late afternoon, I found myself sittting on top of the window, my knees pulled up to my chest. The midnight-blue dress felt heavy, but I hadn't changed.I leaned my forehead against the cool glass, wanting to cry and break free. Then a soft tapping on the glass shattered the silence.I gasped, my head snapping t
Ava’s POVThe morning air outside was crisp, but it was a relief compared to the suffocating luxury of the dining hall. I walked along the stone path of the rose garden, my shoes clicking softly against the gravel. For the first time in what felt like forever, the constant, crushing weight in my chest eased just a fraction.Because I wasn't alone."I’m telling you, he once spent three hours trying to track down a rogue squirrel because he thought it was a spy from the neighboring pack," Ethan laughed, his shoulders bouncing under his leather jacket. "The guy has zero chill. He’s had a stick up his ass since he was twelve."A genuine, breathless laugh escaped my lips. "Please tell me you have pictures of that.""Somewhere in the old archive room, absolutely. I’ll dig them out for you," Ethan said, giving me a warm, easy smile. He walked with a lazy grace, hands shoved into his pockets, totally the opposite of Jaxson.Looking at Ethan, I felt a wave of profound relief. After the b
AVA'S POVThe shame hit me harder than the pleasure had. I stayed on the bed, staring at the ceiling, feeling the wetness between my thighs and the ache in my soul. I had wanted him. I had begged for him.I hated myself for it. How could I have given into the stupid urge?He had proven that no matter how much I hated him, I was exactly where he wanted me: under his thumb, and wanting more......I couldn't sleep that night. I felt so ashamed and disgusted with myself. Also, the maids had come two hours ago to prepare me for breakfast with the family. Fuck my life. The dining hall was a cavern of silence and polished mahogany. The table was ridiculously long, a literal physical barrier between the people sitting at it. At the head sat Jaxson, looking as sharp and lethal in a black suit, his wavy hair falling to obe side, his expression unreadable. He still looked annoyingly attractive and I hated it.To his left were his parents, the former Alpha and Luna. They barely looked at me. I c
The silence in the room was louder than the moans had been. It was an insult. A physical weight pressing against my chest. I stood at the edge of the bed, watching the flickering blue light of her laptop screen reflect in her eyes. She was still wearing those headphones. Still acting like I was a ghost.I didn't think. I just acted. I reached down and ripped the headphones off her head."Hey!" she snapped, finally looking at me. Her eyes were wide, the pupils blown with sudden adrenaline. "What the hell is your problem?""My problem?" I leaned over her, my hands planting on either side of her hips, pinning her into the mattress. The scent of her, vanilla and that sharp, defiant fire, was overwhelming now that Cassandra’s perfume was gone. "My problem is that you seem to have forgotten who you’re talking to.""I know exactly who I'm talking to," she hissed, trying to push against my chest. Her hands were small, but they felt like brands against my skin. "I'm talking to a man who’s
JAXSON’S POVThe Great Hall of the Silver Ridge estate was a cathedral of stone, shadows, and the scent of over a thousand predators. They stood in silence, a sea of dark suits and glowing eyes, waiting for the moment their Alpha would finally take a mate and solidify the bloodline.I didn’t care
I opened the door and walked out.Jaxson was leaning against the opposite wall, his arms crossed over his massive chest, his foot tapping impatiently. When he looked up, the smug expression he'd been wearing didn't just fade, it vanished into a void of pure shock. His eyes raked over the shredded l
I hoped it wasn't what I was thinking. I prayed to a moon goddess I hadn't spoken to in years that the sudden, violent pulling my chest was just a small heart attack. But as Jaxson's eyes locked onto mine from the podium, the air became still. The bond didn't just snap, it roared. Please don't feel
The invitation was still laying on my bed when I got home. Thick parchment, deep crimson wax. an alpha's seal pressed into the surface.I didn't need to open it.Only one pack still had the authority to summon me. Only one place in the world I had sworn never to return to.Five years ago, I ran f
