ACE'S POV

Her words registered in my head, but I still had a hard time believing her. Maybe she was only saying it to make me feel better.

She raised an eyebrow. "You don't believe me." It wasn't a question.

"I believe you, baby, but I want you to clearly understand what's going on."

"I do."

"I lied to you about multiple things, and you're telling me you understand."

"I'm not saying I completely understand your thought process as to why you felt the need to lie, but what I'm trying to wrap my head around is why you would feel the need to impress me like that."

"Now you're cheapening yourself. You don't know how much you mean to me. You don't know how important you are in my life."

"You mean a lot to me, too. Probably too much, which is why I can't believe you lied to me like that. What for? Everything you do marvels me. I meant what I said. It's impressive enough that you stayed alive, and look at all the things you have achieved."

"I thought you would be more impressed if

  • MATED TO THE ALPHA TWINS    CHAPTER TWENTY

ACE'S POV After our shopping trip, Rayden called me in to look at some mistake he thought he had made. I was irritated for two reasons. First, there was nothing very complicated about the work I left for him. Not that he wasn't good at his job, it was that we didn't have much going on with the deal done. I wondered what he could have messed up. Second was the fact that I didn't want to break the promise I made to Karla. I told her we would spend the whole day together. "Seriously, you can go." She said easily. I tried to read her expression, but she merely rolled her eyes and told me she was okay with it. "But the promise I made to you." "Wasn't broken on purpose." "Honestly, though, I don't want to leave you alone." "You're stressing me out, Ace." She sighed. "I promise I can stay here myself. I have to try on all these clothes anyway. Those will keep me company until you're back." "I will try to come back as soon as possible." "Take all the time you need." She said breezil

  • MATED TO THE ALPHA TWINS    CHAPTER NINETEEN

KARLA'S POV The night after our honest conversation, I slept better than I had ever done in my life. I know it was all thanks to the fact that everything was now laid out in the open between Ace and me. He apologized over and over for Anita, but I told him to forget about it. It was in the past. Like I said, it was hard to let go of something, even though you understood something didn't mean you would forget about it. On my part, I was very much willing to put it behind me. As long as I knew that there would be no repeat performance. To prove that he wasn't lying, he called Gerald. Turns out that Anita didn't escape punishment, she only said it to rile me up. I had done a good job at not letting my emotions show, but I had run to Ace with it. She was a liar through and through. Her tactics were so basic that it was embarrassing that I fell for them. For one, I was glad that I did run to him about it because now our connection was stronger than ever. Ace basically ordered me to

  • MATED TO THE ALPHA TWINS    CHAPTER SEVENTEEN

KARLA'S POV I dropped the bombshell on him, and I could tell by the look on his face that this was the last thing he thought I would be mad about because he never thought I would find out. This was the type of thing he would have taken to his grave. "Ace, say something." I prodded, and he only opened and closed his mouth like a fish out of water. "Tell me it was all a lie, and I'll apologize. Tell me this was an attempt to come between us." He looked away. When he looked back at me, he had composed himself, meaning he had decided on the strategy he was going to use on me. "Karla, who told you?" He asked calmly, but that only served to fuel the anger inside of me. "Wrong answer, Ace." I spat. "Tell me who told you." I couldn't believe this was the approach he was taking. "And what? You're going to fire the person for telling me the truth? You think that's going to make me forgive you?" "Forgive me? Karla, this has nothing to do with you." "Yet, you thought it was okay to lie

  • MATED TO THE ALPHA TWINS    CHAPTER SIXTEEN

ACE'S POV The more time I spent away from the pack house, the more guilt I felt. If I could delegate this work to anyone else, I would, but it was too important. I had been negotiating this deal for close to six months before Karla came along. It suddenly went through the minute she came along. In a way, she was my good luck charm. Except, it was making me spend a lot of time away. She has been here for a week now, and I don't know what her schedule is like. I would get home late at night when she was already sleeping, only getting less than five hours with her in my arms before I had to leave again in the morning. It was hell. Today, though, I was determined to hurry so I could see her awake. I watched my watch impatiently as I yelled at the men to move their asses. Most days, I considered giving the whole thing up, but I didn't need to be told that it was stupid to give up. I was doing this for me as much as I was doing it for the pack. I need to succeed, and one of the many w

  • MATED TO THE ALPHA TWINS    CHAPTER FIFTEEN

KARLA'S POV I didn't know which one was more surprising to me. That she called me a bitch or that she just told me she was lovers with Ace. Was? Is? It was very possible that she was saying this as a way of getting back at me for humiliating her in the morning. I knew all of these tricks, so I decided that I was going to ignore her. She looked at me, ready to bounce off my reaction. I was better than that. I was above catfights with other girls. I looked her up and down before taking a step back. "You were lovers with Ace? And?" Surprise flitted across her face before she quickly blinked it away. "You're probably a virgin, aren't you?' "What's that to you?" It was my turn to be baffled, but I kept up the careless face. "Doesn't it do something to you that the great love of your life didn't deem you worthy enough to wait for?" Her mocking question was a blow to my chest because I, myself, had wondered the same thing. I had questioned my level of importance in Ace's life. "Tha
