Chapter 37

VERONICA

I stood in front of the mirror, adjusting my dress and nervously smoothing down my hair. Tonight was our first date night in months, and I hoped it would be a chance for my husband, Grimgor, and me to reconnect. But deep down, I knew he didn't really like me. We are just stuck in a hollow shell of a marriage.

As I heard a knock on the door, my heart skipped a beat. I took a deep breath and made my way downstairs. He sent Sam to knock at our door so I could get down.

There stood Grimgor, towering over me with his muscular build and brooding expression. His dark eyes glanced at me briefly, devoid of any warmth or affection.

"Ready?" he grunted, barely looking at me as he fiddled with his car keys.

I nodded, my smile fading slightly, and stepped outside. The cool evening breeze brushed against my face, but it did little to calm my racing thoughts. Grimgor held the car door open for me, but his gesture felt mechanical, lacking the tenderness I longed for.
